A few things, MMA fighters totally respect boxing as that is on of the things they train in to become better all around fighters. They know that if they don't learn boxing skills that they have less of a chance then if they do. They also try to learn everything else with strikes as well as try to learn all aspects of the ground game as well. Someone who learns wrestling as well as bjj will have more skills then someone who learns just one aspect. Then there is always the lucky punch equalizer.
Fighting styles: BJJ, Judo, taekwondo, kung fu, kenpo, and yes Boxing. There jus diff styles. would u bash a tae kwon do tournament or bjj tournament when its restricted to just taekwondo or bjj? Boxing is obsolete. It isn't a slag against boxers or boxing really. It just has been surpassed by UFC. Any kid growing up now that wants to be a fighter will be focusing on MMA instead of boxing.

MMA is fighting, boxing is punching, the winner in a real fight would usually be the MMA fighter.
@gangster4live strikers in most cases, are NOT better than ground fighters. when a striker fights a wrestler, the wrestler will usually win probably atleast 7/10 times. while two people are standing up striking, they are in a neutral position, but when one guy has a decent takedown, gets the striker down, he is instantly in a dominant position and the strikers skills are completely neutralized. all because of that one takedown. even if the guy on top is bad on the ground. you are an idiot, kid.

A few things, MMA fighters totally respect boxing as that is on of the things they train in to become better all around fighters. They know that if they don't learn boxing skills that they have less of a chance then if they do. They also try to learn everything else with strikes as well as try to learn all aspects of the ground game as well. Someone who learns wrestling as well as bjj will have more skills then someone who learns just one aspect. Then there is always the lucky punch equalizer.

@1007hughes Yes I agree alot need to start at the age of 10 and do amazing in amateurs ABA fights then keep an unbeaten record in the pro's until 15-0 to even be noticed. Randy Couture is called a hall of famer in the MMA world, record 19wins-11losses, in the boxing world that record would get you fired. As for MMA alot can start at the age of 25 train for 1 year and be in the UFC.

@upperwestside1 your just ignorant. MMA fighters learn many martial arts. Muay Thai vs Boxing, Muay Thai fighter would win any day. Look up UFC 1. Royce Gracie(BJJ) vs a boxer...the boxer loses. MMA fighters wont win against a top ranked boxer because they dont have the experience of boxing that they have any wont have picked up strategies, likewise for boers doing MMA

Royce Gracie couldn't beat a boxer standing, he 90% of the time had to take them down to win with GJJ. Glad MMA is how it is, or we'd have tons of Randy Vs James Toney fights lol.

Silva has potential to be a great boxer, but he is fighting Jones Jnr. Dana White isnt letting Silva fight outside UFC and UFC isnt hosting the fight. Silva has only 4 fights left in UFC so it could be an MMA or boxing match next year.

@upperwestside1 Vitor Belfort is a good boxer he won some boxing matches really fast. But it wouldn't be fair or safe to put him in the ring straight away with someone like Vitali Klitscho lol. Same with Randy Vs James Toney Dana could of got someone less experienced to beat him, why put a legend in the cage, seems unfair. But like Dana said MMA and Boxing are both cool.

@mancillas86 other than the skinhead part, you are correct, boxers specialize in punching standing up, and defending against punches, where as MMA fighters have to learn all sorts of ways to fight. it would be stupid for an MMA fighter to step into the ring with a high level boxer, as it is also stupid that a boxer would choose to step into the cage against an elite grappler or wrestler. MMA is fighting, boxing is punching, the winner in a real fight would usually be the MMA fighter.

@gangster4live strikers in most cases, are NOT better than ground fighters. when a striker fights a wrestler, the wrestler will usually win probably atleast 7/10 times. while two people are standing up striking, they are in a neutral position, but when one guy has a decent takedown, gets the striker down, he is instantly in a dominant position and the strikers skills are completely neutralized. all because of that one takedown. even if the guy on top is bad on the ground. you are an idiot, kid.

@bnsaints i don't need to do anything of the sort. i know what i am talking about. what i have stated is pure fact, the only part of my claim that can be argued as untrue, is the part where i said '7/10' as that is an estimate. when a striker fights a wrestler in MMA, you pick the wrestler, everybody knows that. all it takes is one takedown and the entire round is OFTEN won. wheras in striking, yeah hit them a few times, but how often are 1 punch KO's?

Wrestling is also incredibly tiring compared to sparring with strikes, or grappling on the mat. therefore often the wrestler is not just the stronger fighter, but has more cardio and explosiveness. Wrestling is the most dominant form of MMA. absolute Fact. if you disagree with that, you need to do your homework, kid.

Give Toney a break, he goes in against a wrestling champ/ MMA champ in Coutre. Coutre would not go right to a champ like Toney in a boxing match. And besides it was Coutre who picked the fight, it is publicized, he said he wanted Toney when he heard the rumors that Toney was joining the UFC, and that is why. He knew Toney was not a grappler, at most Toney said he wrestled some in highschool. No excuses for Toney, yet Dana makes him seem like a chump for not winning. No just pops up to beat Randy

Yes, a boxer has a "puncher's chance" in MMA, but 9 out of 10 times he will lose simply because he cannot grapple. Likewise, an MMA fighter likely loses in a boxing match since they are not as proficient at boxing.
