  • I like how foster always smacks Dean Martin around when he's laughing

  • >> TO THOSE THAT VOTED THUMBS DOWN > WHY ARE YOU HERE ? <<

  • 11 people forgot to drink the Sterno

  • Snoopy... hahahahaha

  • To give thanks to this superstar Sandy Duncan Jr. lmao I've totally pummeled the replay button, man alive this guy was legendary.

  • English

  • The days of comedy like this are, unfortuately, gone for good!

  • as a kid i always remember that when foster came up, everyone just lost it...he was unbelieveably funny....

  • ♫ HAPPY BIRTHDAY TODAY ♫ - Sammy Davis Jr

    Would be 85 today - 8th Dec 2010!

    We miss you Sammy! ♡

  • OH MAN HE FUCKEN KILLED LOLz I forgot how funny Foster Brooks was.

  • I remember this. This Guy Froster Brooks was The Best.

  • They just do not have fun comedians like this anymore...

  • He makes your cry as you laugh he is so friggin funny, what a bit!

  • One of Foster's best. : D

  • NOTHING on TV is this funny anymore.

  • This is just pure "classic" comedy!!!

  • So f'ing funny

  • Anybody have an idea what the whistle was about around Foster's neck? No one before or since FB can combine all the elements of real comedy like he could; timing, character, material, delivery, play on words, situation, self example, etc.

  • There never was or will be another Foster Brooks. He was a one off.

  • The first time l ever saw Foster it was an all too brief cameo in a comedy film--it may have been Cannonball Run. He played a guy fishing from a rowboat with a friend and he was bragging about the fish he caught the week before. His companion says ' Was it big? to which Brooks replies,' Big?...The photograph weighed thuuu....uuurdy five pounds! Priceless stuff. Yet,revered and loved as he was by everyone in show business, why did he never get a full part in a film. What a waste of a genius.

  • "Tell 'em to send the colored kid up to dance while I shave."

Oh, man, that is gold. Are you kidding me?

Why are Blacks so angry these days? Geez, man.

  • Sammy Davis, and the rest of these entertainers had a great sense of humor, which makes these roasts so enjoyable..............................more importantly, they didn't take themselves so seriously either!

  • When Foster gets Sammy's name wrong is the best! :)

  • Foster Brooks was the best drunk ever...of course he was acting...but he pulled it off brilliantly...one of the things that jumps out at me on all these wonderful clips is that everybody, (except maybe Bob Hope, Jimmy Stewart, etc) were constantly smoking.

I don't think Dean was ever without a cigarette...how much he actually smoked it is another thing, but he did die of lung cancer...When you look across the stage and think that one of the only survivors of these moments is Don Rickles..

  • @Snoopy7666 I believe Mr. Rickles is playing in Las Vegas this month some time. I'm seriously thinking about going to see him (I live in Vegas).

  • LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL! the whole way man...

  • This was true comedic art. No kidding. Nobody today can do it like this.

  • "...send the colored kid up to dance while I shave".

Priceless. There's nothing like these guys, anymore.

  • @2:25...I crack up just hearing Rickles in the background laughing his ass off!!!!

  • ok slammy , sammy!

    ok sammy snoopy

  • hahahaha send the colored kid up to dance while i shave :D

  • Sandy Duncan Jr. LMBO!!

  • I love how Foster gets up and walk towards Dean, during the walk you can see him getting in character, he is so good..!!!

  • ...let me...let meeeee...let meeee..let me....let me...I'm dying here:) LOL

  • no school like old school

  • This was the golden age of television. I hope some younger people see these vids and see what they missed. They missed comedy without profanity. They missed the best of Hollywood getting together for a show; not a bunch of lame comedians that couldn't fill my backyard with an audience; a group that never even met the person they roasted. Back then the roasters were close friends of the roastee and didn't need a team of writers to give them material. Those days are long gone.

  • @chrispmis So glad we have youtube to GET BACK to where we belong...Laughing at each other, one another and ourselves. Foster Brooks, has brought more laughter in the last year or so, than a generation before, to myself. The Sandy Duncan joke would fly past young folks, but is priceless. I'm quite glad I came across these vids.

  • @chrispmis This man was one of a kind and absolutely hilarious!

  • @chrispmis Foster Brooks was famous for acting like a belligerent drunk on stage... Alcohol has killed more people than curse words so I think I would rather have the curse words...but it is still a "cleaner" performance I agree.

  • I've seen this in a couple other vids; what was the whistle around the neck about?

  • @thegreenerthemeaner ....fOsTer blew it to remind him that his time was up...LOL

  • I love this kind of comedy makes fun no matter what race no one is offended it's sad when we cant laugh at our selves. miss those days

  • ......"send the colored kid up to dance while I shave" lmfao!!

  • This is one of the all time great comedy skits and is higlighted by Foster Brooks` great dellivery as a drunk. Don Rickles laughed uncontrollably and it is infectious. TV programming back in the 70s was far superior to anything today.

  • Such a fake drunk act. Just like Dean.

  • @NYyankz225 Dean wasnt faking though. He usually was drunk.. LOL!!

  • @Muzzie0323 baloney..it was all an act. He often drank apple juice onstage. His son and many others talked about it in various biographies.

  • @Muzzie0323 Wrong.

  • 1:38 to 1:49. i love it. these are great. the whole clip lol. thanks for posting. great comedy!

  • freddie prinze is a dolt

  • What a riot ! "Mr. Davis, you are a great performer. What you do to an audience is incredible. There they sit, spellbound, wondering if someone in your entourage is ransacking their rooms." "Ransacking" is such a funny word.

  • @SmoothEdward That's true. He could have said robbing or burglarizing but it would not have been as funny. Ransacking implies robbing but also really tearing up the place.

  • 10 don't know the definition of funny

  • OMG Sandy Duncan Jr.!!!!!! LMFAO

  • @davesbigplay

here here - i have tears streaming down my face XD

    this never EVER gets old!

  • comedic genius who is mostly forgotten today. those of us who remember, remember him fondly.

  • Brooks doesn't ask Martin if he had the "money" at 0:28, he asked him, "what'd you call me" ?

  • 0:28 did you hear FB ask Dino if he "had the money" before he took the the podium. Those boys worked with cash...Dino nods yes......

  • These were the best of the best. I will always remember how funny these roast were. know one can ever touch them, they were funny and no profanity used. I have great memories.

  • Hahahahahahaha this is timeless great stuff!

  • What year is this..?

  • @Za7a7aZ who cares, He is bore of all years.

  • wish they would put these on tv again miss this stuff:(

  • Ladies n Gentlm...ladies n gent...FOLKS!

  • look at Dean's foot..Slammy....

  • Where would Las Vegas be without you slimy, sandy, sammy

  • Thanks for posting this! Hilarious

  • so many years ago....and still so funny !!

    Miss those days alot

  • Who was the guy on the left at 2:20?

  • @ThirdOfJune4444 Joey Bishop

  • @ThirdOfJune4444

    Joey Bishop.

  • Foster Brooks was a MASTER

  • Truly Funny...to do this sober.. fred m.

  • Which of them are still aive????

  • @linda1067 Phyllis Diller, Dionne Warwick, and Don Rickles. All the rest are gone. Freddie Prinze committed suicide at a young age.

  • @linda1067 I think ONLY Don Rickles & Dionne Warwick!!??!!?? Wow. Thats awfully sad

  • wow, we sure dont have stars that like today. it's fucking pathetic today... justin biber and fucking lohan. its bullshit. i wish we had humor like this now, and i think its pathetic cause i was born in 91...

  • @JAMxSkalla16 two words. neil hamburger.

  • Foster Brooks was a genuis!

then Dean at 4:15!! lmao and he keep goin with it too for like 10 seconds!

  • Foster Brooks was a genius!

anybody else notice Dean at 4:16!?!?! lmao..he just keep doin too! lol

  • Dean was so handsome, he looks like a latin lover. what did he die of?

  • @linda1067 Acute respiratory failure, according to Wikipedia. But he also had lung cancer, emphysema, and Alzheimer's. And, actually, he was Italian.

  • Im from those days-and of course they are now taboo jokes. Thats life . I dont defend them as not racist or un PC..they are. But in context, that was what American comedy was. If you didnt laugh at the drunk or the bigot or the colored jokes..you were a nerd, not hip.

And Rickles outlived them all!...except for Dionne.

  • "Last time we stood side by side, somebody stepped on my tongue!"

Oh I lost it right there!

  • 2:25 - 3:15 is THE best moment ever on the Dean Martin Roast. Watch how hard Dean Martin laughs during that sections. It's hilarious. Foster Brooks ruled!

  • Ladies 'n' gennem...ladies 'n' gennelm....folks, LOL

  • The genius of his act is that he is a sober acting as a drunk - trying to be sober.

  • A True Comedic Genuis. There will never be another Foster Brooks. His Delivery, and timing is amazing. And America will never have as much brilliance and class and grace that it had during the time frame in which the individuals were famous.

  • HILLARIOUS!!!!!

  • how does he keep a straight face? hahahahahahahahaha

  • What? And no one yelled "racist"??? Different (and more fun and understanding) America back then, wasn't it? ;o)

  • @jesusfreeq777 That was real comedy. Did you like the Bunkers (All in the family).?

I miss honest humor, that is what makes humor real!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Brilliant.

  • Foster Brooks=Comic genious!!!

  • Foster Brooks=Comic genious!!!

  • "send the color kid up to dance while I shave." Oh heck, I just made pee....

  • Thank you very much for sharing one of the funniest men in show biz. I hate to sound nostalgic but it's true, ever since Eddie Murphy hit the big time it's just one F word after another. This was real entertainment.

  • this was comedy.....clean, original, no curse words, and a real friendship between everyone so that they didn't take anything personally! wish we could get that back

  • The jokes are ok but his delivery is masterful. This guy was brilliant.

  • ..my dad loves this guy's work...

  • Thank God for Youtube. Simple as that. Such a shame we do not have talent today to take the torch and run with it. We need to do a lot of things in life according to where we came from so we can get back on track and do things the right way.

  • These are Great

  • To all those who say comedy today is vulgar and dirty. Don't you think portraying a drunk idiot on television back then was considered profain and vuglar?

  • @daveed2001. No, it wasn't considered profane or vulgar. As I was alive when these originally aired, I can tell you that it was just funny. It was called an act. Foster Brooks did not smoke or drink. It was an act. People had much thicker skin and a far better sense of humor than anyone has now.

  • the woman at 3:20 was Dione Warwik

  • PURE classic CLEAN comedy

  • hey, get plastered foster he liked watered down lighter fluid

  • Ohhh for the days of Great Comedy before the PC brigade told us we cant laugh at each other !

  • Absolutely too funny. Slammy, Slummy. . . What a great talent. A lost art.

  • I didn't know Dione Warwik was awesome looking stunning and sexy???

  • lmao great

  • thats 2 fu....king FUNNY LOL

  • Foster Brooks is one of the funniest men I have ever seen. I've watched this loads of times and it makes me laugh every time. I did have to look up what Sterno was though. Somebody stepped on my tongue is classic.

  • does he always sound like that or is he damn wasted? lol good times

  • Brooks was great. Sandy Duncan Jr. ,Slammy, Snappy er Snoopy. I always laugh too much at this guy.

  • Foster was a comedy genious and I don't care what people say.

  • Classic s***! I remember watching these roasts when i was but a wee lad. To think that actual adult behavior, albeit drinking and smoking, was celebrated and applauded, love this old school! Now, you'd have to tag on a warning label, per "smoking, drinking, adult language, breaking balls, etc."

  • "Ladies and gent...ladies and gent....folks..." LOL

  • "Ladies and gent...ladies and gent....folks..." LOL

  • I'm here to give our thanks to this superstar " Sandy Duncan Jr ".....one of the funniest things I have EVER heard !

  • Now that was comedy!! Not the crap we have today. People think that in order to be funny they have to be vulgar. Foster Brooks was one of a kind.

  • haha this is one of his best!!

  • jposam23 thinks that comedians weren't what he or she calles "vulgar" back then? The Dean Martin roasts were sanitized version of the very same roasts that took place at The Friar's Club, where they originated. The very same comedians did some of the same material, but uncensored - and trust me, each and every one of them that you see onstage in these televised roasts were TWICE as "vulgar," as you call it, than ANY comedian you could find on TV today.

  • rickles is pissing himself.

  • This was a time when the best of the best got together and had fun without profanity and without anyone being offended. These days are gone forever but we always have these videos to take us back to a day when it was pure talent and class.

  • Sammy always took the black jokes with class and dignity. He was a star in the truest sense of the word and one of the most talented people to ever walk God's green earth. I still miss him.

  • funniest guy i've seen including carlin

  • @isaba2gu this guy is hilarious, simply amazing!!!. slammy, slummy, sa-sammy.

Ya-know what snappy snoopy! very very funny. RLIT.

  • Man...no one is profane, everyone is dressed up formal, and nobody is taking anything personally. Where have these days gone...

  • "Send the colored kid up to dance while I shave..." LMFAO!!!! Every black artist in there is laughing their head off! lol SAMMY EVEN HUGGED HIM!

Today they'd bitch and moan about it, even if it was done in jest. Unless the person who said it was black of course >.>

  • They never existed. I was a kid when this was being aired live and my grandparents used to say the same thing: "where have these days gone?" (referring to days gone by). Every genration, when they reach a certain age, develop on intolerance for "today's standards" in the same way that every generation's parents thinks their children's music is horrible compared to what they grew up on.

  • @BlackDiamond1967 I dont know, but they are truely missed

  • Class

  • The funny thing about it, Foster Brooks was a teetotaler. Meaning he never drank ANY alcohol.

  • actually, he did drink in his time, quite a lot actually but he dropped the booze 1964. his words "Fellow made me a $10 bet I couldn't quit, and I haven't had a drink since. At the time I needed the $10"

  • The last joke is the real kicker.

  • Now this is a LOADED dias...amazing talent appearing at Sammy's roast, and a huge audience. Foster Brookes in his cups, as always, slays with great writing and perfect timing.

  • Who was the woman at 3:20?

  • That's Dionne Warwick.

  • @marilynmortician - confirmed! :)

  • That is Dionne Warwick....

  • You can only remeber and miss these wonderful performers........

  • Absolutely. The majority of them are long since passed on to the great beyond. Their legends will live on through these roasts so that many young people can witness the GENIUS of their careers.

  • You know ducky811 this was comedy at

its all time best, no cursing, no vulgarity.

    Just funny as hell.

  • Foster Brooks was one of the best...makes me piss my pants every time.

  • Dean loses it at the Sinatra joke at the end. This was Foster's best, IMO.

  • Comedic genius! I'm in my 50's and was lucky to see these in the 1970's.

It's a shame that there is nothing today that can make you laugh so hard.

  • So funny!

No one has ever played a drunk like Foster Brooks, before or since.

  • Sandy Duncan Jr. at 2:47. FUNNY!!!!

  • I just lost it when he referred to Sammy as Sandy Duncan Jr. LOL!!!

  • "Send the colored kid up to dance while I shave"...LOL...try that in today's PC BS society.

  • That was not a racist remark..and Chris Rock..I can't stand him..he is a racist..

  • damn he has a bad stutter lol i like it now i dont feel so bad about mine

  • Don Rickles laugh at 2:25 gets me every time. lol

  • funny

  • I wish Nick at Nite/tvland would re-play all

of Dean Martin's Veriety & Roast Shows.

They need to,with the world the way it is

now,we all need to enjoy good clean fun

    times again on more time.

  • they wont because the bits are not PC today

  • I remember these roasts-they were hilarious

  • In response to bluegsp, the only issue I take with your comment is that you say that the quote you referenced of Foster Brooks was racist - I disagree. Sure, it would have been racist if there was an intent to be racist by the person who said it (Foster Brooks), BUT it was quite obvious to everyone on the deus and in the crowd (as well as everyone else watching the show) that there was no malice behind Foster's comment and rather that his comment was really a jab at racial prejudice instead

  • Ladies an. ..Ladies an. Folks. hehe

Boster Frooks was so damn good it hurts !

  • i hav´nt seen today´s roast but from hvat i can read i don´nt like to see them coz these guy´s are genious at acting

  • The roasts today are terrible. Certainly vulgar and informal. You had to be talented to be hilarious and not use curse words every other line. This is what Dean Martin roasts excelled at.

Two people I can think of who are funny while being vulgar are Chris Rock and Bernie Mac. Stand up comedians are pretty much a hit or miss, but I find a lot of them on Comedy Central to be, well, just not that great.

  • Actually, the Dean Martin roasts were simply tailored to meet censor's standards. Celebrity roasts originated at The Friar's Club, and what went on that those roasts by the VERY SAME comedians were far more "vulgar," as you call it, than ANY comedian you'll see today on television. It all depends on what you've been exposed to - and how and where.

  • @KratostheThird You got that right!!! These were classic.

  • "From dancing for penny's to that magnificent moment when Frank Sinatra phoned down to the lobby and said, "send the colored kid up to dance while I shave"

racist, yes, but funny as hell.

America had a sense of humor, and some of the best comedians the world has ever seen were working then.

There were only two occasions when I saw my father cry. His mothers funeral, and when ever the Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts were on.

  • They were hilarious and they didn't use one curse word, unlike the untalented performers at today's roasts. Every other word you hear "beep". They aren't funny either and most of them aren't even famous unlike on Dino's Roasts.

  • They actually were FAR more "vulgar," as you call it, than ANY comedian today. The Dean Martin roasts were sanitized versions of celebrity roasts which took place at The Friar's Club, where they originated. What they said and did free of television's censorship standards would make any comedian today PALE in comparison as far as "vulgar" goes. We just live in a puritanical society, that's all.

  • lmao great dont see this any more

  • Foster Brooks and other comedians from his era were deserving of performing on television. Their hard work that was crafted over time resulted in writing and delivering quality, creative, funny bits. Their professional performance resulted in quality entertainment for the viewer. Today there is no standard for how to treat the viewer and we are subjected to performers who are ALWAYS young, with scripted, dull, filth to deliver like showroom dummies. BRING QUALITY BACK!

  • Comedy genius!!!

  • The man could work magic!!
