But I remember seeing this on TV when it happened and I don't think anyone could guess the actual size except perhaps the helicopter pilots who saw it in person but I think even they did not get close enough to judge size. A 30 foot balloon of this design could conseivably carry a 40-50 lb child, especially in a good up draft and continuous wind.

At that point in time, there was no point of reference to show how large or small the balloon was. But I agree, had I seen this footage first, I would have known that balloon would never hold a child.
