Hi Kurt - any good Norse games out there that don't require purchasing four books? Clovis is into Norse Mythology these days and I thought playing a game with maybe Vikings immersed in Norse legends would be cool - kind of an Eric the Viking type quest - any ideas? Or is Ragnarok worth doing the whole Scion thing?
i don't think you could say that being a scion of an angel is blasphomy. mabye if you tried a scion of God or Jesus, but not Micheal or Gabriel. the Bible never gives much detail on the nature of angels. they just do what God tells them.
Oh, if you get a chance, review "Shard" -- a new RPG I saw at origins. It looked interesting, but I wouldn't mind hearing some thoughts on it before committing to buying it.
I dunno... the moment someone mentions "Left Behind: The RPG", I'll pretty much walk out of the room. (Or perhaps, be whisked away by Heaven while my group endures the torments of the apocalypse for their heretical gaming.)
Don't worry too much about blasphemy. I considered your idea with my game group when I first flipped through Scion a few months back, and we rather digged the idea of being scions of angels. I agree, though, that the d10 system they use is a little clunky for me, but I'm the kind of guy that'll tweak things in order to make them work.
Yeah, In Nomine is cool. It's got an odd system that you either love or hate. I rather like it. Plus, a world of angels and demons that you can play either dead serious, or as a lighter Good Omens / Dogma style game. I recommend it.
Yeah, I thought that was a pretty cool idea, too. As well as In Nomine, Morrigan Press put out The Seventh Seal, which had a very similar idea (though somewhat post-apocalytpic, set during the Tribulation). In comparison to other companies who have tried something similar, Morrigan's game looked like something I'd really like to play (and I'm a born-again Christian, no less).
Having looked at In Nomine, I think it looks fairly good. Perhaps in a year from now, given my horrendously busy schedule and my current Legend of the Five Rings campaign I'm running, plus the game I'm developing, I may run it someday. LOL. Still, I like many of the concepts and game designs in it, and it's worth a look-see.
Cool! The Irish, Chinese, and Hindu gods are in that one. As well as an optional WWII setting with nationalistic pantheons. So you could be a Scion of Uncle Sam.

Well if you can speak swedish, there's "Viking". If not, "Midgard:Warriors from the North" might be for you.

You didnt list the Atlantean, Tuatha, Devas, or Celestial Bureaucracy

The Atlanteans are (officially) dead and the others hadn't come out at this point.

I am Iron, like a Lion, in Scion...
Great review as always Kurt. I like the idea of using under-represented religions.

Don't worry there is no such thing.

Good review! If you want to be complete, there is one more book for Scion. The Scion Companion.

Whats up with the harsh sch sound when you pronounciate ragnarök? Ö is pronounciated a bit like O.
Still, a great review, as always.

That's exactly what I thought when I saw it.
Hercules was pretty much a Scion, though Greek pantheon obviously.
