  • Still one of my favourite songs not just from Avishai's opus but in my whole life. There are just so many memories and feelings i had with this melody in my ears ....not to mention i get wet eyes and faster pulse during Shai piano solo. Must be weird to see me listening to this and walking trough my town :)

  • *****

  • Just listen Dorantes at Spain if you like this kind of music / piano. This is great too. Thank you.

  • cerebro Judeo corazao sefardim!!

  • great album

  • I've got the songbook. The correct time signature can be written (as in the book) as a bar of 5/8 and a bar of 6/4. This however is very confusing to count. To properly count the rhythm i simply think 5/8 six times and then 3/8 once and repeat. Do the math niggas

  • @DangerDancer69 "...SIMPLY think 5/8 SIX TIMES..."

    Peace a cake!

  • @DanMcCaffrey Then there's one bar of 3/8.

  • I think if I try really hard (like practice 6 months for 1 song) I can mimic the piano. I know a bass player that can do the same with the bass in these Avishai's songs. But the drums!? Seriously, what on earth!? I don't think I know anyone that is able to play that.

  • @Pianofy give a listen to Esbjorn Svensson Trio. Their drummer might just be your man.

  • @bobcities Unfortunately, he doesn't touch Mark... Mark's the shit!

  • 5+5+7 (all are eghits)

after the beggining, the groove in 6/4 beat and than 4/4

    Cheers what a hard song.

  • J'adore, relaxant à souhait !!

  • I saw Avishai yesterday; second time now; it was yet again a great experience. He left me speechless and unnaturally happy :D

  • new avishai cohen live from cully (switzerland) will be presented thurdsay 21.20 cet on MEZZO. Awesome live from the seven seas tour, I know what I'm speaking about, I was in the audience !! Enjoy guys !

  • I'm new to jazz. this is great. any other recommendations? songs of his or other artists?

  • @drufuss2006 Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Pat Metheny, John Zorn, Ornette Coleman, Charles Mingus, Dizzy Gillespie, Soni Rollins, Irakere, Sacbé, Bill Evans, Hector Infanzón,John Patitucci, Weather Report, Jaco Pastorius, John Scofield etc...

  • @drufuss2006 search Esbjorn svensson trio.

  • @drufuss2006 yes, EST is nice. If like mellow piano, try: Marcin Wasilewski Trio /watch?v=6K5wDvzFo4U&NR=1, or Leszek Mozdzer /watch?v=uIN71J3tahM If like trumpet, too, must try: Tomasz Stanko /watch?v=94dkiKOa6kk . I'm new to jazz, too. So have fun, like me :)

  • Wonderful...

  • 20/8

  • it is 5 5 5 5 6 5 3. or 5 5 5 5 6 8 as you prefer:) That is why it is written: 5/8 (2x) and 6/4 bcs there is the long G lasting 16/6 and it is easier to write it down

  • 6/8+6/8+6/8+2/8

  • @themusicman903

    well,when I count like this way I also succeed,but I also succeed to count in 13/8 - 10+3

I really think you are counting the 3+3=6/8 in trills- listen to the bass notes are played by the piano, you get the quarters of this part.

  • @themusicman903

Well Ive thought about it..and by the way about what I have said...and I see that has said here,by some people that this part is 7/4 .. well.. If you combain those (6/8+6/8+6/8) as trills like I said and the 2/8 , youve got 6/4 ( every 6/8 = 2/4) + 2/8 = 14/8 = 7/4

So I am VERY confused about what time signature it is !!

  • @themusicman903

    Well,I've got it !!

  • what was wrong with 8 people ?

  • My musical writing range does not exceed 4/4 or 3/4 so I'm not even going to ask how technical this music is, i'm just going to enjoy it for what i'm hearing. Is that ignorant?

  • @Robiskool1234

yoyo. well about now it would be 3/4 years ago! so the first one, 2 or maybe 3 years ago or something in between when i posted this here :)

cheers for shared enjoyment ehmm.. hah

  • @Robiskool1234 If it makes you feel any better, all these rhythms can be broken down into 2's and 3's haha :P great music.

  • @guy24352435

    Make art, not war!

  • What the fuck is going on in this song?!

Anybody hear or "feel" different beats

Someone can tell me what's exactly going on with this shit?xD

    the beat is 5 quarters.

  • @OwDenied

  • @OwDenied

  • Who is the drummer ???!!! he's amazing !! :DD

  • @SebastienPMusic Mark Guiliana

  • @phugbz

    Thx !

  • @phugbz great drummer. love his style.

  • god since hearing this song i cant stop playing jazz!

usually i am a teenage metalhead, but since i was introduced to jazz by my music teacher in my school's music department i have been thinking jazz, improvising jazz, and just listening to jazz. ofcourse im not going to stop listen to rock and metal music, but part of being a musician is getting to know new styles of music.

    Avishay your awsome! from israel.

  • @OwDenied

  • Undeniably, Avishai Cohen is one of bass legends. His style of playing is somehow very interesting; it sounds so simple, yet complicated. It just took me his Ever Evolving Etude to get addicted to his music.

  • great music and musician, avishai knoked me of my feet he is very talented,

  • predivno!

  • Is this not one of the most amazing pieces of music ever?

  • Comment removed

  • @duumitri I believe it is 2 bars of 5/16 followed by a bar of 6/4, at least for the A section

  • @blarg4847

i see you bought the transcription ;) i think it's only written like this to make reading easier. but it's not really possible to feel it like that. i gotta stay in the subdivision to improvise over it (check my vid ;) )

  • @duumitri i actually got in in bass player magazine

  • Killing!!!

  • Aburrida la música, muy cliché.

  • from 0:44 it's 4/4

  • Fantastic!

    Wonder why it's called "Chutzpan"?

    : )

  • avishai cohen is from israel where the prime native language is hebrew. chutzpan in hebrew means cheeky.

  • @noamhoze

Ha! I know that, I'm from Israel too :D

    Thanks for your reply.

What I meant was - what inspired the name for this musical piece?

Guess I should have phrased my comment better.

  • chutzpan in hebrew means cheeky

  • Very mental, heavy, light, reaching, going, gone simply beautiful!

  • this song is so nice...

  • hey guys at the beginnig its 5 / 8 (3,2) x 6 times plus 3/8 at the end! so the final its 33 / 8

  • it's ever changing... i hear a 7/4 in some parts too..

  • Comment removed

  • Beast!!! thats all I have to say

  • @elimenophee: but after 3.36 i hear a tricky syncopated 14/8 meter; right?

  • @rainingmoon: Nope...thats still the "6/4" (12/8) groove. Well...that's how I hear it anyway...

different people count/hear it different ways.

  • @rainingmoon This song start with a groups of 5/8+6/4 (17/8..)

  • I do not listen many jazz stuffs, so I may not have a good mind about it, but it sounds pretty good !

  • I LOVE IT!!!

    0:33 is Groovin'!!!!

What meter is this in? Is it even constant?

  • Sounds like it is in 9/8 then 11/8 repeating. Avi's songs are the exact direction jazz needs to move in: complex harmonies, super rhythmic, and groovin!!

  • the groove at 0:33 could be counted (simply) as 6/4.

If I were playing it that's how i'd probably think of it *one day....one day*

  • exciting amazing

  • really nice music :)

  • god bless you avishay

    i love you!!!

  • Absolutly marvelous music and what a sound !!! GREAT Music Avishai !!

  • This is the music of God.

  • GREAT !

    Thnx 4 sharing...

  • Thanks for this music!

  • I just found his music through pandora. THANKS PANDORA. He's electric !!!

  • @bertiejr ME2!, Long live pandora

  • I love him

  • great bass player.. gave me chills..

  • i've tried to copy his skill, matrix style you know, to become my own. No succes though, big surprise heh.. will keep on trying because as you said, he gives me the chills.

  • @fridofrojd Wouldn't copying his style be the exact opposite of becoming your own? Don't copy, just listen and evolve.

  • great music. hear it the first time at manu katche`s one shot not. i`m lucky, to find this

  • some friend of mine introduced this wonderful trio to me about 2/3 years ago. took them about 6 months efter that to visit sweden and have a concert at one of gothenburgs jazzclubs called nefertiti. I count that as my no. 1 musical experience ever and i dare say you wouldn't disagree with me on that one if you´d been there to see them.

    peace

  • @fridofrojd i i discovered ac last year & i agree what an experience : bought his album & i listen to it all the time ,it's addictive music .

  • @fridofrojd

Hello Frido, well I watch this video a lot.. And I always see your comment "my friend introduced me about 2/3 years ago" I've been dying to know FOR NO APPARENT REASON if you mean 2 or 3 years ago, or two thirds of a year ago? I know this is random, but I've been wondering for weeks now xD

Ps. I'm addicted to this song.

  • I found out about Avishai Cohen and his trio some months ago, and tonight I have been on their concert in Vienna - I can confirm your experience - definitely No. 1 musical experience ever!

This is so beautiful, other than technically perfect! There is nothing better in modern jazz/world music!

  • Absolutely Beautiful.

These 3 guys have the most amazing talent and chemistry.

    Thank you god.

Thank you Avishai,Mark ,Shai and Sam.

  • wow... great great great tune...

    magic..

    D

  • this album is perfect

  • couldn't agree more!

  • Es lo Maximo!!!!

  • Avishai...im from Slovakia and i love music, what can you play...you know the name Fedor Gal?I hope you will....take care,Stevo

  • yes, yes - perfect songs!

  • soooo good i love this album!

  • 100% best peice on the album!

  • mysticpsi, this is not correct.

    from Babylon:

Chutzpa is: impudence, effrontery, presumption, forwardness, gall, immodesty, impertinence, impertinency, insolence, liberty, mouth, neck, nerve, perkiness, pertness, presumptuousness, rudeness, sauciness...

i think rudeness is the most exact word to my eyes. being "Chutzpan" means someone that is rude. very simple and precise to my eyes...

  • Chutzpan in Hebrew means cheeky. That's the closest word to it in English, anyway.

  • btw, for those interested. Chutzpan in hebrew is a fool of sorts. More precisely a stubborn person. It comes of the base word Chutzpa, which is stubbornness or but can also mean doing something shameful. Not sure if that'll be meaningful to people, but it might affect your perception of the song :).

  • awesome thanks

  • Great to know, have been wondering about it for some time :)

  • Indeed clocksii

  • Gorgeous.

  • conchetumare

  • What does that mean in English?

  • Probably the best song on the record, if there is one best song because they're all absolutely amazing

  • I'm going to see him live by tomorrow. Hope he is as good as this record says.

  • He's even better live

  • He's actually much better live. I saw him in Toucoing (France), it was wonderful.

  • I was visiting Spain and heard him live by chance. The trio is just amazing!

  • Wonderful, thank you fridofrojd. I searched a place where I can listen to the whole piece and not just 30 seconds.

Great, just great, I have to order the CD :)

    Just WOW!

  • thrilling.. got goosebumped.

  • there is no otherway to listen to them i think. get goosebumps or die i guess..^^

  • man, exactly ;)

Thanks a lot for the upload!

I got the CD "Gently Disturbed" already, and have been listening to it all the time.

    Thanx again fridofrojd!!

  • Heh np:)

Bought my own cd when they visited gothenburg, Sweden, got it signed too! yay me!

  • Distributed, not "Disturbed"!

    thanks

  • sry mate, the album rly says "disturbed" but then im quite sure you didnt mean to write it to correct me but to say how "distributed" they´ve been mhm.
