  • This song has a sense of calmness to it.

    Amazing!

  • うまくないなぁ

  • I wish he came to perform in Atlanta

  • @3rdShogun Actually he will be for the 125th anniversary celebration for Coke!

  • i love that he is an African that sings with that African style

  • I don't really know what to say. I just love K'Naan. I got tickets to see him and Lupe this weekend in Ithaca. Still trying to figure out transportation but I'm soooo determined to make it.

  • K`NAAN

  • ahaa haa ahaa ahaa sidii hogasha roobka

  • His music so much different then everyother rapper, he is such a unique artist!!!! K'naan is the TRUTH!!!!!

  • "Sidii Hogasha Roobka" love it

  • K'naan, walaahi u r the worst Somali singer. how u managed to be where u r is a mistery, but led that mistery remain uncovered!!

  • @shumeeey so he can't sing, just like 99% of major label "singers" these days who also can't sing, but use AutoTune to fake it? Yet he's somehow less legit than them? Or maybe you're just not intelligent enough to realize that Autotune is designed specifically to make a lowest common denominator like you think that a human voice actually sounds like Autotune. Sad, sad, sad...

  • @shumeeey at this point its obvious that you are a pissed off somali artist that didn't make it

  • lmao, he can't sing, but still it's awesome xD what a man!

  • @TheMisterWeirdo , i agree with you. this guy cant sing, he must be lucky to sing alongside will.i.am!!!!!!!!! even the somali version he is rubbish. but good luch k'naan, as there are many artists who cant sing so u joint them!!

  • @shumeeey The rude words are not really necessary... Makes yourself sound like an inconsiderate douchebag. Anyways, I personally have to disagree when you say he can't sing. He has that reggae/hip-hop mix flare with his voice that makes it very soothing to listen to, which flows well with the beat and music he and his group composes. That's why this man is great. Not only that, if you listen to the lyrics, it's incredible. I bet you are one of those kids who are Ke$ha fans lmao!

  • @alextotherescue I was about to say that exact same thing...and the same Ke$ha reference lol

  • :)

  • Love this!

  • walaahi you shine down upon me walaahi trust me macaanka

  • walaahi you shine down upon me really trust me macaanow

  • music is way of life in somalia

  • omg my grandparents are from freetown hahaha

  • This song is amazing!

  • what a nice song

  • I was amazed when I found out this guy. It's been a long time since we had a musician that is something else than just good hums. He is a life force. His music is really inspiring. The first time I listened to him I inmidiately thought of him as the "new Bob Marley" in a whole different way though hahahahahaha Looove his african rythms :) I congratulate him for getting through such a hard life and still have the strenght to keep fighting for his people in such a peaceful and universal way :)

  • great song

  • The original song is by Fatuma Abdullahi Mandeeq and its called Sidii Hogosha Roobka" which means like thunder in a rain - its a love song. basically she is saying you stroked my eyes from a distance like a thunder with lightening in a rain...its very popular song in Somalia.

  • somali poetry

  • Yes i love him!

  • That's it....I have a crush!!! I really do not need this turmoil...what r u doing to me K'naan? :)

  • real brother!!!!!!!!!

  • feels like desperation in falling the hand of a manipulative gold digger

  • Freetown is the capital of Sierra Leone...I think "fire in Freetown" is analogous to a raging conflagration, which for me in this song is a type of love. Whether the analogy is love for Somalia, a woman, or even an addiction, I think it's about love...replete with pleasure, pain, resistance and submission.

Incidentally, "Sidii Hogosha Roobka" is a classic Somali song, performed by Faadumo Maandeeq. I have no idea what the translation is beyond the title, but I feel that the message is similar.

  • A measure of a true peot is in telling grand stories in simple terms and reward every listener with hidden jewels of knowledge respective to their level of understanding.

Most of the times the truth is unpopular and strange

  • Yeah this song was sang by Maandeeq, and loosely translated, "Sidii Hogosha Roobka" means like rain falling heavily, well Somali vocubs are hard some times but I will find out what 'hogol' means from my mother.

  • @Pezzalini @Pezzalini Our troops had to rescue foreigners from Sierra Leon when they had civil war...very bad over there :( Great Music...Palm Wine Music comes from there :)

But I believe his song has a much deeper meaning along with Love.

  • @Pezzalini

Sierra Leon is on the Ivory Coast of Africa...for U folks who wanta know, it is Western Africa, far from Somalia, which is on the East side on the Indian Ocean.

  • @funkateerkitty On the Ivory Coast? Ivory Coast (aka Côte D'Ivoire) is another country in West Africa. Sierra Leone is farther out West. No hating though, just fixing the facts:)

  • @Rumplestilskin83 Ur right it is 2 countries away...Just another blanket misconstrued name for the entire bottom half of Western Africa...My History professors were the false teachers.

It is a shame how Americans do not learn about the WHOLE world.

Canada knows all about us, yet we can't even name their provinces '-'

I think our country is apathetic to anything but Selfish interests.

  • @Rumplestilskin83 I feel very stupid now '-'

I am going to study up on things myself, using the

    internet and RELIABLE sources...

Also my Great Big Library :)

  • @Pezzalini salamat (thank you in tagalog) for teaching me a little

  • @Pezzalini sidii hogosha roobka means something like ' the storm befor the rain'

  • relentlessreign23

He's talking about Somalia. the country still has no government. the cities are lawless and are run by militants who set rules there. Freetown is Somalia. Atleast thats what the song means in my opinion.

  • TRANSLATIONS

sidii hogasha roobka- roughly translates as like blankets/ sheets of rain. im a big fan of somali poetry!

  • After listening to K'Naan, I have been curious about Somali music, litrature and poetry... But I can only read in English. I think this song illustrates it a little. My favorite from his songs so far!

  • knaan you legend my nigger keep up the reall ting

  • woah k naan makes beautiful music

  • yeah for sure, best messages of any other artist out there today.

    One love!

  • How do you play this song? I want the chords if anyone can help me out?

  • it's definitely a min, b min, and e min.

  • K so I've listened this song several times, I've become a devout K'Naan fan, I love all of his music. But as many times as I hear this song, I don't understand it! Not the words that he says, I mean like the message of the song. What does it all mean? If someone knows, please tell me, it's an itch that must be scratched! lol

  • He loves this girl and thinks she is everything in his life..but she knows how to kill his feelings and his home in the song is his heart :D

  • hogosha robka means the rainbow in somali

  • cool, thank you

  • He is soooo good a song writer.

  • its very lovely mandeeq song , k'naan u did nice job with english& somali mix .

  • if some body have k'naan guitar tabs?

  • Yeah - I want to know how to play this one! Can anyone help out?

  • Such a sick tune - any idea what the chord progression is?

  • This dude is a genius, he basically took an old school Somali song and remade it. This is the best song on his new album imo.

  • what does imo mean again?

  • imo = in my opinion. Sida Hogasha Robka by Mandeeq is the old school Somali song laborgrunt is referring to for anyone trying to find it.. :)

  • yup your right Thunderboy. I didnt make the connection until I heard that song again. I just knew that Fire in Freetown sounded real familiar.

  • wats the old school somali song brother?

  • someone know what the words mean? those that aint english..

    =)

  • Its the somali language :D

  • "Sidii hogosha roobka" = Just like a Rainbow, you shine down upon me..

  • chosen son of the horn?

  • kanaaan is the man.

  • distinctive as in the most recognizible...the HORN is the most unique shape...and there is no continent that has a unique shape like that..thus the horn is unique.
