That cam must be bigger than the crankshaft! As I recall, a full race cam for a Boss 302 "comes on" around 4,000rpm. The factory sponsored Bosses (#15 & #16) briefly revved to over 9,000rpm. My Boss sits under a coat of dust in my garage waiting to be restored... You inspired me and took my breath away. Thanks a lot for this posting.

@apjones8410 nice car but if you have a real Boss 302 R model your cam is bigger than the street Boss 302 but i think they both used the same size carb, theres also a couple Boss 302s that had 2 4bbl carbs. my dad has a 70 Boss 302 it sucks horribly on the street at low rpms but when you get passed 3rd gear on the highway man you rin for a ride.

Boss 302 has a different block and canted valve heads that are nearly identical to those of the 351 Cleveland. Your 5.0 engine has inline valves. With the valve covers (which are different) off you can see a huge difference between to the two.

The intake and exhaust manifolds are different too. You can mount Cleveland heads to a standard 302 or 351 Windsor block but you have to modify the block somewhat for the purposes of cooling.

I've had my much modified 1986 Mustang GT on the track at Grattan in 1995 for an open track event sponsored by an Alfa Romeo club. I prefer Gingerman and Mid-Ohio. The breaking point track surface for turn one was way too rippled for my taste and it upset my car.
