One of my top 5 songs of 1982.. played a lot in Richmond, Va. and Virginia beach area, but after that year I never heard it on local radio again (Virginia Beach)
hired a band that played this song at my wedding reception in 83 ! yee ha ! spent three days in jail in celina ohio afterwards ! good music....good party .
I saw this band live in 82 in Chicago & they were great. Back then I had the album this song was from and it rocked. Wish I could find it on CD. This song got a lot of air play in Chicago.
At least it sounds better than the rap crap bullshit they play now! Geez they don't even play instruments. Of course playing a record backwards and forwards might seem complicated to you.
I have a fresh cassette of the album (I only played it once) and will be carefully archiving it before the oxide deteriorates, as i couldn't find it on iTunes. Beautiful music such as this should always be preserved for the future generations! And to think that he's a Senatorl now...cool!
the song was released on the album "All of the Above" in 1981. What I would really like to know is does ANYONE have the video to "Love Me Again" from the next album in 1983 "Search Party"!
Wow, I wish I could find TABS for the solo. I have the chords figured (It's in Db), but there are a couple of things I am struggling with on the solo. I would really love to cover this. Thanks for posting. I searched for several years to find it. Awesome!
God, I LOVE this song! Vastly underrated! I first saw this video when I was in the Navy and had the cassette of the album "All of the Above" all throughout the Navy and played it till it wore out. I couldn't replace it because it was out of print. Finally, about a year ago, I found it online. It's a permanent fixture on my iPod.
Saw this video on MTV during the first week the station was on cable tv during my junior year at college. Dynamite Song! Bought the album and it's in storage. Is the complete album available on cd or mp3 files? WallyB
This song was released in 1981. Yes, it's a great song. I used to working radio and when I would host an 80's night in the bars I always made sure to play this song. It always brought people to the booth to ask "Who is this?", "Man, where did you find this song?".
Just purchased this tune off of I Tunes Store for .99.(Skips and all! Search Crazy, Orleans,Miss Grace. I too, was looking all over for this studio version. They also hav a live version!
Does anyone know how I can get a copy of the recording of John Hall's record with this song and "You've Got The Touch?" If I can get a CD burned of the songs, I'd pay money for a quality/exceptional (above good/great) recording. Don't know why record companies don't re-release these lost, golden oldies on CD? They could make a fortune from these talented muscians who made up the John Hall Band! Too bad my cassette was eaten up by my cassette player-the downfall of the plastic mistake.
GREAT SONG! But I'd still like to slap the crap out of whomever "K-Telized" the video with those 3 horrid "skips" during the instrumental. (Not blaming "musicvideoswhd" for that, though.) I just have to wonder how "bad" it would have been to keep the extra minute or so in there.....?
WTF!!! Why does everyone have the same name as me! How many dog gamn John Halls are there out there??!!! How am I suppossed to establish myself with the same name as a senator, multiple muscians, multiple artists, an NFL football player, 2 people i know, and the list goes on and on!
Anyone know where to get this version on CD? (I have Orleans Live) I have this recording on cassette from years ago. Excellent song. Spent considerable time trying to locate! Remember the skips through the vinyl recording also! Thanks!!!!
i love this song too...and like you have spent considerable time searching for it on CD...i cant even find the cassette..i did find the album on ebay..but unfortunately it is out of printand unavailable even at tower records
Whether I could do better is completely irrelevant because I'm not the one getting up on stage and playing. Anyone who decides he wans to write a song, get a band together, make a record and make a music video subjects himself to the analysis and criticism of those he purports to entertain, regardless of whether those people are capable of doing what the performer does. Two groups, two roles: artist, critic; performer, audience.
@musicvideoswhd Right On! I so tire of all the manic, mental illness that drives way too many You Tube commenters. as if anything that they have accomplished deserves any merit!
are you a guitar player? I am. These guys are not like most of the other posers of that time. just walked in and played. Good groove... good blues...timeless and I am glad to hear it again....
Hey golden, I get the feeling you're a bit spoiled by Rush, given the "2112" in your screen name. Not a bad way to go, of course, though being a Rush fan myself, I can still appreciate "simpler" music as well. These guys have/had pretty good vocal harmonies and a decent groove, and sometimes that just makes for a great rock song (as we have here).
I remember this video back when I was in High School. For some reason, I thought the bald guy with the sunglasses was John Hall and I remember thinking, wow those Hall and Oates guys really changed!
This song was on my wedding soundtrack that played right after we danced to "I Love Her" by NRBQ. This brings back great memories. Thanks for the post. I would of never heard this tune if it wasn't on MTV back in the early 80's. I still have the album on LP.
Congressman Hall, D-NY, is a great talent.. I saw his "other" band, Orleans, just today at a Syracuse football game. They played this song in addition to the huge hits they had when Hall was with them and sounded fantastic. I was inspired to do a search and pleased to find this video that I haven't seen in 25 yrs or so. Thanks!
Isn`t this song GREAT!!! You guys are just great for putting it on you tube I kept asking for it and asking for it and you delivered!!! Again you are great. THANK YOU. Sincerely I am Brenda Joan Bearden
