  • This is rather cute....the last one of these featured all of the objects and charachters in all the rest (2-9) -the presidents in #2, the magician in #7, etc.

by the way, I don't see #9. Do you have that one?

  • I cannot put into words how awesome that banana bird is.

  • I had NO IDEA that was Grace Slick!!!

  • It's just amazing that they had a 7/4 piece on Sesame Street! Such an awesome piece of music.

  • I see Obama and Bush in the stands!!!

  • Tahhhhh-ennnnnnmnn!

  • you can't get too many george washingtons

  • With all the heavy smokin' Grace has done since she recorded these, there's no way that she could sing 'em in that high register today. Bye, now!

  • I had no idea I'd be watching this 40 years later and enjoying it even more than when I was a kid!!

  • anyone ever notice there are TWO George Washingtons in the audiance? Plus thats the other 9 from this toon lol

  • @microbusss Because there are two George Washingtons in Jazzy Spies 2

  • I had no idea this was Grace Slick! I remember watching this in the early 70's with the kids I used to babysit.

  • George Bush and Reagan are in the audience!!!!

  • sesame street had it going on for ultra-funk and pre-punk.

hearing this again, after all these years, leaves me impressed.

  • I believe I've seen one of these dubbed in Spanish, and I think it was this one (#10). Has anyone uploaded it? Thanks for your help.

  • @superAJ71 There was also the 7 1 dubbed in Spanish. God bless!

  • school didn't help me count, in fact this actually did!

Heck what kid wouldn't like this compared to same old hairy lady breathing down your neck in class when your like 5-10 or years old.

Sesame Street taught me more than school ever did!

    Thanks for posting

  • Grace is awesome on this one

  • I just noticed that all that was in the stands were the previous number characters from the other skits like the 7 magician, the 8 otcopus, and the 2 George washingtons.

  • Wow, I haven't seen this one in over 35 years! These were the coolest sketchers that Sesame Street offered to us kids. Thanks for posting it.

  • I am HUGE fan of Grace & yet it was only today that I learned she did this...Learn sompthin new every day!

  • Here in the final installment, all the story lines come to conclusion. The race cars are finally set free and the winner is #10...the various number characters learn to live together...and the jazzy spies really are a disorganized lot despite their united outfits and tendency to flash.

  • God d@mn it's like having ants eat the back of your eyes. No wonder an ADHD epidemic broke out!

  • hilarious comment!! lol

  • Of all the "numbers" songs, this was the coolest one.

  • Ten? Ten.

  • I think the people who wrote fore Sesame Street and Electric Company were on 'shrooms.

  • Note all the sacred geometry and masonic symbolism throughout Sesame street pinball songs. "They" have been showing us the whole time. Watch Sacred Geometry 1-26, just watch the first few and you will see what I'm refering to.

  • ahhh thank god if they were... :)

  • I always wondered why there were two poorly drawn George Washington-heads mumbling in the stand...

  • gotta love Grace Slicks' breathy and almost orgasmic "Tennnnnn" when the cartoon zooms in on the race car drivers helmet at :35

  • Any one remember these in Spanish?

    I luved the Spanish ones!!

  • I remember, but I forgot all about this until I came across it.

  • LOL @ the two cheering George Washington heads! Cute!

  • I love tne full circle nature of this one! All our pals in the stands..2 headed Washington, etc. Hilarious

  • It would be sweet if they released all of these short skits and animations onto one DVD

  • Aweome -- finally found these! I remember these from when I was a kid...it would be fun to cover these in a band (breaks between sets, fer instance...)

  • I haven't seen this in 30 years! Wow, what a flash back. The theme is awesome. I can easily turn that into a metal riff. It's perfect for it.

  • The best music ever from Sesame Street. What a great trip down memory lane!

  • This was a complete flashback for me. Born in '67, I grew up on the original Sesame Street.

  • Same here saxm, I was also born in '67 and grew up on the Original SS. It was the best.

I agree with you milovy, now that I'm watching this again it does seem really fast paced but as a kid I guess I didn't think it was . I guess we must have learned from it anyway though.

  • Just came here to Youtube looking for this and sure I wouldn't find it. Amazingly hip stuff we grew up on! (although I have to wonder... this was SO fast paced that I doubt it registered with any of the younger viewers who needed to learn to count to 10)

  • What absolutely fantastic music to be exposing young minds to. Almost too good to be true. Contrast this with the bland, sterile crap that kids are force fed today! I love this clip. Whomever wrote this music deserves and award.

  • @NameNotaNumber it was Denny Zeitlin, who teaches psychiatry at Stanford, if I'm not mistaken.

  • This was actually written by a medical school professor of psychiatry, Denny Zeitlin, also keyboard player.

  • Way to go Denny! I haven't heard this in over 30 years. I searched for it on YouTube also and I agree that the music is dynamic and exciting. Great for kids! I loved it when I was 7.

  • Do you know the title of this tune?

  • 'Ten' I believe.

  • OMG, Loved it--totally remembered all of those little details! I esp. loved the last part, where the robbers (flashers??!!) open up their coat flaps! I think all the talent on Sesame street and Electirc Company, and Zoom, etc...HAD to have been tripping! :) But is was really good stuff for the kids...had to have been, because all these year later, it came right back to me, I was humming right along, hehe

  • I love it! What a jam!

This song is from the soundtrack of my childhood. It's so beautifully stimulating and creative -- as was the rest of the show. What a revolutionary children's program: bold, thought provoking, generative, unifying, fun... Such an oasis. Sesame Street ROCKED.

    Thanks so much for posting!

  • Again, this is Grace Slick from Jefferson Airplane voice! I found that out only about last year and I usually totally know her voice and did run into her -more times Katner- at times when she lived in San Francisco when I was a kid and seen her at her art exhibit in 2002-03.

  • Wow! I never thought that Grace Slick of Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship/Starship fame did the vocals on this series! That was my all-time favorite Sesame Street song! It truly rocked!

  • I LOVE THIS!! brings back great memories!

  • Is there a "Jazzy Spies #1"?

  • I used to jam to the awesome beat of this short clip as a kid, and I still love it. Starts off with a nice little drum roll and just jams! If I had a better quality clip of it, I could sample it into a awesome remix.

  • Oh my...the memories this brings back!

Thank you so much for posting these.

  • There's George Bush in the stands!!

  • this would make a cool ringtone

  • Ya... it would, lol

  • I suspect that a moonlighting Frank Zappa was responsible for composing and arranging the music.

  • i loved this!

  • Were those Presidents in the stands..Republicans?? Jazzy Spies...the best thing Sesame ever did!! What Memories, now gotta find the psychadelic E is for Eagle and the Easter Egg!

  • the 1 - 20 raga is also amazing

    I love these.

  • No, they were Federalists.

  • Igive it a 10

  • Having seen all nine films in this series, I'd definitely say that #7, #9, and #10 must have been produced separately from the rest.

    (1) Notice that the colors appear washed out somewhat, and the film looks grainier.

    (2) After the racecars appear, all the other sketches feature the number drawn in on one of the psych backgrounds (the last one); on this one, they're drawn on a simple single-color background.

  • The two Georges are understandably excited. They've got two dollars riding on the outcome!

  • If I were a George I'd demand an investigation. The race is sponsored by the number ten, and guess which car won? Coincidence?

  • Racing commissioner Alexander Hamilton was unavailable for comment.

  • This could get ugly. The Washington's have powerful friends to be sure, and as of this morning it looks as if Lucifer may be filing a joint suit with them on behalf of #3. The media have even camped out in front of Grace Slick's home. Once again corruption threatens (psychedelic animated) sports.

  • LOL!!!

  • This music is somthing else.I love it.

  • Grand!!!!!!!!

  • Ten Grand, to be exact.

  • Nine in the grandstand, to be even more confusingly exact.

  • Ten.. #7 sneaked his twin brother in under his cloak.

  • And, of course, if we disregard #7's hidden twin, the total value in the grandstand is 44.

To be even more confusingly exact..

Okay, time to get some sleep.

  • okay I'm blind...9 previous numbers represented but there's two George's. Unless you mean there's eleven (one under wiz's cloak), and we don't want to go there.

  • What some folks will do to avoid buying the extra ticket...

  • LOL!

  • GROOVY!

  • Yeah, that music is awesome!!! I wonder if any famous cats were playing on that. Trippy!!!!

  • I just did a long overdue update to description with some info :-)

  • Thanks for the info. Wow, Grace Slick??? Those were the days!!!!

  • .....they don't show the cool skits anymore

like they did in the 1970's,my neice would

    ENJOY these classic skits.

  • I remember this - what a cool piece of music! Almost avant-garde, and it's in 7/4 time too.

  • that is some music.groove 70s.bits of it remind me of jimi hendrix's music.cross town traffic.

  • Awesome! Been looking for this for a long time. It's the original punk! Thanks so much for posting it.

  • This was my FAVORITE number clip. When we were kids we even make a game up based on how the count was said at the end. So incredibly trippy, they just don't make and show stuff like this on SS anymore which is shame.

  • Hey folks, correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't this from the Electric Company?

  • Nope sorry it's from Sesame Street. Electric Company didn't teach numbers, only reading.

  • Man, this takes me back. Sesame Street was truly one of the most original, creative and enriching shows of that era.

  • i remember watching this!

  • Sesame street has so many little short clips than so many kids (now adults) remember.

Love this stuff. Racing car #10 rules!

  • oh my god. who needs therapy. it's all sesame street's fault.

  • Love it! I remember getting all tripped out when I saw the Sesame Street fans in the stands. I was like, "What are they doing outside of Sesame Street?" LOL! =)

  • this takes me back to age five, 1969

  • Wow! So this is how hardcore and thrash metal got started--way back in '69. And The Velvet Underground's John cale must have produced it, because if you listen carefully, you can hear him come in on his viola or violin in the mid-section--just like he did on The Stooges' 'We Will Fall' that same year!!!

  • O-Gee-Ranja-Ranja-Ja-Ran. The Stooges debut was one of those great beginning to end albums as were Funhouse and Raw Power. Still fresh after nearly 40 years.

  • You know I never really thought about it, that's great. Historians will always put the roots of punk in MC5 or The Stooges, but wasn't the tempo a lot slower than this (I could be wrong, don't have those early albums, only Raw Power)? So how does one convince a thrash metal historian that "flower child" Grace Slick was one step ahead of their pioneers? :-)

  • Thank you Old School Sesame Street...I'll ALWAYS love you. lol

  • I remember this well as a young child...now 36 years old.

  • Me too...our generation was blessed with a lot of great educational TV...they just don't make stuff like this anymore..see Sesame Street now and prepare to be disappointed...but I guess times change.

  • Sesame Street today is all about Elmo. He has a whole chunk of the show all to himself. I wish they would show more of the old animated clips like this one. Then I could stand to watch it with my kids.

  • this is what i watched 35 years ago as a toddler.seeing the spies again after so long is like reliving my past.Thankyou very very much for sharing

  • WOW!!!! I haven't seen this for at least 20 or more years. This is great!

  • This is why I don't comment on videos.

  • I hear this and i'm 5 again!

    1970

  • what the hell is wrong with u ppl! stop starting arguments on the internet its so immature

  • ignoring all subjectios about this its pointless to talk to you people all i was doing was trying to stop an argumen there was no reason for the person to call the other a jerk but who really cares have a good day

  • your right sorry for trying to keep peace all i said was be nicer about things i guess you cant find nice people on the internet

  • andthat doesn't make them a jerk you could have dsid it nicer

  • leave her alone she doesn't have to listen to you

  • Whatever

  • I can't believe no one has reposted Jazzy Spies #3. I always liked that one. Even though it had the scary suprise of the devil at the end of it.

  • there was no devil jerk

  • Yes, there was. Someone reposted the video and I watched it again. There is no need for name calling, it's so immature.

  • no there wasn't and do you know me? i don't have to obey you

  • i think i grew up in the perfect time period for sesame street! I was watching sesame street in the very late 80's and i still saw all these old 70's clips on a daily basis!! (plus the new ones coming out at the time)

  • One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, NIIIINE...tennnn...

  • Thank you for posting this video. At last I found it!

This reminds me of my chiildhood about 30 years ago.

  • Dogs doing a pyramid during the car race. I wonder if that happens in real life. c",)

  • I can't forget the two faces of George Washington on this clip. XD

  • Sounds like the B-52s.

  • The music sounds Frank Zappa like.

  • that is exactly what i just thought.

  • Interestingly, Grace's vocal here sounds very similar to the vocal she did on her collaboration with Zappa: the avante-garde "Would You Like A Snack?" which appears on the Jefferson Airplane CD boxed set "Jefferson Airplane Loves You". She would have been recording the Zappa stuff and the Sesame stuff around the same time...

  • Check out Pointer Sister's Pinball Number Count for Sesame Street, recorded around the same time...and the Pointer Sisters sang background vocals on the song "Fat" from Baron VonTollbooth and the Chrome Nun.

  • ??? the Pinball films first aired in the late 70's but "Jazz" series was 1969

  • Great stuff.

Sesame street, what would have happened to me if I never saw TV

  • The spies almost became 10 street pizzas!

  • It was Grace Slick, check out her TV appearances on her IMDB page...

  • No, that's not correct. these were shown thoughtout the 80s up to the early 90s. Generally speaking, and as a rule of thumb, the appearance of Elmo and Telly is when all these clips stopped.

  • Love the psychedelic music to these Jazzy Spies skits!

  • I think Grace Slick is the Narrator?

  • I love all of these-shame the film is fading and turning yellow, I may upload a color-corrected version sometime, I have '7' of this series myself.

  • There jazzy spies cartoon are just so weird, aren't they?

  • I just noticed something. Everyone in the stands shows up in one other Spies segment!

  • Yea watching these again now as an adult I'm noticing things in them that I didn't when I was a kid, like the bird is a bunch of bananas. LOL That's clever, and the people/things in the stands were all from the other counting segments. That's cool that put that detail into it. Too bad we didn't appreciate it as a kid like we can now.

  • Now for number 9, number 9, number 9

  • Hey, this does scream Beatles, doesn't it? LOL!

  • I just happened to pop on to these. I am 32 yrs old, and

can't believe I just saw these again!!! Instantly brought me back, and yes, VERY Beatles....wow, it's almost sad how long ago it seems...sigh!

  • Yeah, where's nine? That was the best.

  • I forgot all about this one untill I saw it right now..A classic!!

  • So good to see this again. Does The Elmo Show, ahem, I mean- SESame St. still show SOME of these classics?

  • I haven't checked it out in years but I bet there's one clip at most from the 70's in the current episodes. If you mean the "Spies" series specifically, I think those haven't been shown since the early 90's.

  • I can't believe I spent almost four hours searching on here to find and watch this one. All I remembered was laughing hysterically as a young child at seeing two George Washington heads murmuring in the stands at a car race. Way to go, 'love2register' !

  • Those two heads were my favorite details from all the Jazzy Spies clips!

  • Thank you so much for this!! I almost forgot this one even existed!!

  • I loved these Jazzy Spies counting cartoons as a kid. I always waited for them to come on. I never knew the guys at the end were spies when I was little of course, I just knew they had the numbers and then the numbers all "melted together" at the end. LOL

I'm so excited to see these Seseme Street clips on here. When I watch them I feel like I'm 3 again. I still enjoy watching them.

  • When I was a kid, the local PBS station used the picture of the 10 racing cars as a telop before Sesame Street. I liked it because it gave me a chance to study them in detail.

  • this was added on my birthday! this was one of my favorite jazzy spy skits. :D

  • This also features George Washington and his brother, Bob. Bob Washington was the Uncle of our Country.

  • I remember that in #9 Grace Slick makes it a two-syllable word, "ni-on" (rhymes with "lion"). I didn't see it is often as the others -- a "lost episode", as it were.

  • Anyone know how you can take one from nine, and end up with ten?

  • Roman numerals -- take the I out of IX and you're left with X, the numeral for ten.

  • Roman numeral for 9 is IX take away I and you got X

    the roman numeral for ten.

  • NINETEEN SIXTY-NINE

  • That was a very good year. :)

  • I remember the #9 clip being very abstract. I guess the animators couldn't come up with any 9-related objects other than the tic-tac-toe pattern. Even the intro was odd - a man jumping off a diving board, as I recall, with a 9 bouncing into the foreground.

Hopefully someone is able to post this one, along with the controversial satanic #3 clip ;-)

  • I do remember another fan mentioning that clip (in which the "3" transformed into the prongs of a devil's pitchfork, among other things). Wonder whether any churches boycotted Sesame Street/CTW after that one aired?

  • Certain groups have always boycotted Sesame Street/CTW. Back in the early 70s, certain PBS affiliates in southern states refused to allow Sesame Street to air because of its "radical" message of racial tolerance. The idea of strong, positive African-American role models interacting with caucasians on an equal level was simply too much for some people to deal with during this time period.

  • I lived in the South then and I do not recall ever missing an episode of the show in my youth. Which PBS affiliates do you refer to?

  • this rates a 10!

  • That is Grace Slick from Jefferson Airplane who did the vocals for these. The hmmmm that everyone is referring to is the start of her next note. Notice the hmmmm and the 12345678910 that comes after it starts out in the same key. She was probably queuing herself to prepare for the next verse, being that it's a very odd key against the music. Guess they thought it sounded cool and decided to leave it.

  • I remember seeing them in both Spanish and Hebrew. It is definitely a re-recording of the music. The original music and vocals must have been produced all on one track, so they would have had to re-do the whole thing for other language productions.

  • There were Spanish versions of 7 and 10. The music sounded different, as if it been distorted, or perhaps re-recorded for Spanish vocals.

  • Thank you I am not crazy..a few people I've talked to didn't believe that I remember a Spanish version of the Jazzy Spies..I would love to see! I have seen a Hebrew version of '8' on VHS SS Hanukkah.

  • Thre only ones i've never seen is 1 and 9.

  • In #9 there are 9 windows, and the sun rises in the shape of the number. Then a #9 appears in every window, and they fold out into hearts and back. Then a tap dancing goat appears with a cane. He takes off his hat and a 9 appears on his head. A giant cane whisks him off the stage but that 9 remains.

It's kinda weird how a goat of all animals would be teaching about the number 9. Hmmm...

  • Goat begins with the letter G

  • The goat was probably chosen because the animators thought its curly horns suggested a figure 9 (although a ram's horns probably would have done better visually). If you've got that clip, please upload it here soon!

  • You may be right, but what I meant was that both the number 9 and a goat have ties to the occult.

  • *Many* animals and numbers have ties to the occult (although the goat is a well-known example). I strongly doubt that the animators meant to hide a Satanic message in Jazzy Spies #9 (or #3, as I mention below): most of the other clips include a numeral transforming into some visually similar object. (For that matter, the spectators' stand in THIS clip shows the goat's 9-shaped horn prominently...)

  • Goats figure quite prominently in Sesame St. There's the one in #9, the same one in #10, the "O song", "Goat begins with G", "I get mad", the cartoon with the six goats on the mountain, plus the live-action animal segments.

  • I forgot Nancy the Nannygoat.

  • That's what ewe think!

  • Perhaps because Sesame Street was a KID-friendly show.

  • Anyone other than me think the dancing goat is a veiled tribute to animator Bill Melendez's then-current and popular animation of Snoopy from Peanuts, dancing on the piano in the Charlie Brown Christmas Special? Maybe I am hallucinating, but then the goat sits, removes his hat and bows, he looks almost identical to Snoopy - as close as it could get without violating a trademark. Anyone? Anyone?

  • There was no Jazzy Spies clip for the number one (probably because it didn't appear as a sponsor number until the early 80s). The #9 clip definitely existed, although I've seen it only a few times as a kid.

  • If anyone had this, I figured you would. I noticed the hum also but thought it was instrumental.. thanks for posting this, the collection is nearly complete! btw, for the record, was there a segment for "1"?
