Sammy was the worlds best #1 entertainer - nobody was better! I mean nobody! RIP Sam, you da Man Baby!c We all loved you and pray for you. what an honor to be your friend and get to know you. "A/A"
I wish the young singers of today could find someone even half as good as Davis to emulate. The man, in addtion to being a phenomenal singing talent, had endless ideas of how to phrase a song, intuit it, act it. It's a little sad that twenty years after his death he's not as celebrated as he should be.
If I were allowed to select ONE performer, past or present, to see ONE time, I would pay more money to see Sammy Davis Jr. than for anyone else in the history of stage performances. Singer, dancer, comedian... ENTERTAINER, period. Just one live rendition of "Who Can I Turn To" and I could die a happy man.
Well Sammy.... We can not remember you as the person that tried. Tried means failed for me. Although i can say that we will remember you as Sammy Davis A LEGEND who succeeded. One day when i pass on, I hope there is this place called Heaven. Why?... because we know the Rat Pack will be there
I have always loved Sammy. A friend of mine who is black didn't like Sammy Davis because he thought Sammy was an, "uncle tom," sucking up to Sintatra and Martin. This is nonsense in that Sammy never left his roots, which were blues. Sinatra and Martin would not perform in the South if Sammy was treated bad by a racist. Sammy, Dean and Frank were multicultural before it became popular. I miss Sammy, a great entertainer.
@doggsector Well stated, doggsector. When Davis was in his prime, black entertainers were not allowed to stay in the same hotels in which they performed, even in Las Vegas. Sammy put up with crap like that, he took it, and gave it back 1000% on the stage, where it really mattered, where it was visible, where his talents could say "This man is second to no one".
Today's minority entertainers should say a prayer thanking God for Sammy Davis Jr. every morning. He took it, and took it, and took it some more, but then he brought it, and brought it, and brought it some more, time after time, until the walls fell. God Bless Sammy Davis, Jr.
@perunaismymascot Hmmm...starting with "He took it..."...I like how you put your comment...I really do. Good comment. Made me pause for a second or two. Good stuff...
wow that editing was interesting, how he had on glasses in one shot and then cut to a side behind him and he hasn't any on. someone must have spliced in audio underneath that visual. Sammy was a soft spoken guy but a tough dancer.
In my own oppinion I think he was and I hate to admit it that he was oppressed by the white man and held back due to that erra. Sorry for my spelling and grammer I am drunk tonight thank you Jack Danials. But I have to say it. And I am a white man. BUT nowadays young black people not all but a majority of them in the poor neighborhoods need to get off thier asses and make a difference!!!
@ANASTASIACHAVEZFILM oh boy inever heard of that mix before but do we really know from where we come from.as far as i know im Italian puerto rican and a little black could be more who knows.peace Des
@ANASTASIACHAVEZFILM He had several accounts and lawyers. they were the ones who stole from him, misappropriated his money, and set him up with phony tax shelters, that he did not know anything about. This is how he ended up owing Uncle Sam millions. Davis never went to school and relied, largely, on trust. His widow,Altovise, said this was true and to his fault. He needed training to know what to watch for when he hire people to watch his money and to count his own money.
@dsscam ; I remember seeing on the Mike Douglas Show in 1975, Tony Curtis grabbing his cigarette from him and throwing it on the floor, telling him he doesn't need it and he should quit. Sammy was pissed but he controlled himself, he said he just turn the big 5 0, and he could still sing and dance good and will keep smoking. I wished he had.

Sammy Is almost as cool as Dean Martin...Almost.....But Sammy is the most talented person that ever lived.Sorry Mike Jackson....Sammy Kicks Your butt.Sammy You DId Not Try...You DID IT! We Will Never see anyone ever again so Talented.
sammy, you didnt try.... you smart rat! you shook the world, and you helped create a youngster who became the king of pop! sammy, you survived the storms, you endured ridicule... and you were loyal to your friends. you didnt just try, sammy... you did it!
multi-talented...but...one of the great singers of all time..i love the way he would bend a note..as if he was playing a horn...a trombone...incredible.
he had a very powerful , strong voice that far exceeded his physical stature...that amazes me...
a guy like sammy..was one of the last of the great originals...they dont make them like him....
God Bless you Sammy....wish i had the chance to thank you.
He more than tried-- Sammy succeeded. And acting-wise, I know a lot of people think "One More Time" is a bad movie but I love it. Along with "Salt and Pepper" it's one of my Top Ten favorites. Sammy shows a lot of range in it and there's something sad and sweet about his performance as well as incredibly funny. Those movies with Peter Lawford, along with the albums "Lonely Is The Name" and "The Goin's Great" (and a couple martinis) have given me some wonderful memories.
Sammy Davis Jr. was cool and conscious he sort of had that cool Jazzy blue light special feeling about him like when you walk into a room the lights are demn down and the music is smooth and the women are pretty in cool colors just smiling back at ya now Sammy is poetic but hed tell ya always tip ya wattress
@premedog Singers who did that, Keith Richards, Sinatra, Dean Martin, Elvis (to a small extent), Most rockstars of the 60s, Bobby Darin, Buddy Holly, do you need more examples?
how the fuck can your blackness interfere with your religion and visa versa. what a load of bullshit talk. niggas always bring in the discussion of being black somehow
Yes, sammy! im thankful to have grown up with this mans dance, humor, acting, then dance. we need to have a sammy
week long tribute, so he can continue to entertain us. peope, this is the greatest entertainer ever. just pure class and tallent. deno, frank, joey, all of them were in his spotlight, standing in his shadow.
frank could sing, but sammy could sing and dance, and his bojangles lick, "after twenty years he still greaves" wow
I wish people would focus on what is being said and not what the host looks like or what they wear or if they are like dark or what kind of hairstyle they have..we look at too much style and not content.
@diuga1 Oddly enough, though people call them a minority, you are correct, the majority population of PR is Caucasian, the more ethnically proud get rather irate if you point that out though.
Lovin the bare feet... LOL. That aside, I just read the Rat Pack book. I love Sammy. He was the best out of them all. What a true legend. I wish I were old enough to appreciate him before his passing. RIP, man.
