  • I always thought it was called a sloppy Joe...well you learn something new everyday i just came here to see the food :3

  • My grandmother had this inside a baked pie shell. She called in an empanada. Is this the main stuffing for it?

  • @12quillemall5321 Yes Picadillo is one of the many stuffing's for empanadas.

  • @fitcoach2007 Thank you. I missed the opportunity to learn how to make the dish. Now I can. Hopefully the crust is the same type you buy at the store premade.

  • @12quillemall5321 Yes the pre-made dough disc is what I like to use.

  • Gud Stuff Man I Guess Everybody's Grandmother taught them a lil sumthing sumthing ya know lol And Its Crazzy How The Dish Never Changes I mean Mabye in other family's but the way you do yours is same way i was taught by my grandmother Just Gota Love it Plus its my Favorite Dish!

  • @CHANTALE16G Glad you enjoyed the video. Thats the beauty of cooking, change a couple of ingredients and you make it your own.

  • @BeatlesRuleAll1 I have used raisins at other times. I am glad you liked my version.

  • @BeatlesRuleAll1 Picadillo is a traditional Cuban dish. This recipe was passed down from my grand mother.

  • @BeatlesRuleAll1 I know what you mean. The browning of the ground beef does not have a pleasant smell. But it is so good when its done.

  • My grandmother does not use Cumin, or Oregano. We do not prefer raisins. She has been cooking for years.

  • @305miami786 My grandmother always used raisins, some grandmothers also add diced potatoes. Many Ways to make it. pick the one you like and go for it! :)

  • @305miami786 My grandma and family in general have always used raisins, cumin and all. It is the authentic way of doing it.

Sorry to say but your picadillo must be "boring".

  • no raisins , papa fritas :)

  • Technically, it's not a hash - it doesn't get cooked enough to make so - rather, it's a minced beef in tomato sauce that if you were to add more sauce to it, you could actually eat it as a spaghetti sauce. Of course, orthodox Cuban cooks would cringe at such a suggestion, so instead it is served with lots of white rice and Cuban black bean soup ladled over the rice. This is THE quintessential Cuban dish.

  • @marcoamedrano This is THE Cuban dish of all Cuban dishes.

  • @fitcoach2007 Bingo Fit Coach. You hit the nail onthe head, even more quintessential than -- Ropa Vieja!

  • I am Cuban but I never have esten it with Raisins

  • @ohio1969 try you will like it

  • @ohio1969 hey is really tasty with raisins ill do all time lol you got it try

  • Depending on where you come from, there are different nuances in the recipe, but Juan is correct, everyone makes it differently. I myself (Puerto Rican) prefer it without the raisins, but any time I have eaten it prepared by a Cubano(a), they usually make it with the raisins. Tastes very good, just slightly different.

  • I love this! Can't wait to cook it tonight Thanks!

  • @mariharrington Enjoy it!!!

  • Need to add capers, washed from the jar liquid. NO RAISINGS! and no bay leave

  • @rcecilia41 everyone makes it different.

  • @rcecilia41 That is the oriental style picadillo - no raisins, no bay leaf. Each region has its own variation.

  • looking at your recipe again, it seems just like the meat mixture we used for Empanada's.

  • pretty close.

  • @9aspengold5 Yes, you're right on target. It's empanada filling, minus the tomato sauce.

  • OMG it is amazing what raisins and olives do to a meat mixture. Just awesome. Hubby is now in love with my meatloaf where I add olives and raisins.

  • ditto

  • woooooooow
