    I often hear this song.

    But I heard a Japanese version of this song for the first time.

  • This song (in both English and Japanese) has been and is popular in Japan particularly since the end of WWII (i.e, 1945) when America occupied Japan. Mr. Shuichi Tsugawa、a Japanese pastor (1896~1971) translated this and Stephen Foster's many other songs into Japanese. Chances are you may come across Japanese version of other Foster's songs as well.
