You don't have to be from Texas to love Jerry Jeff. He's from Oneonta, NY, by the way. I'm from NYC. It's all about attitude, not geography. Jerry Jeff's live recording of Mr. Bojangles from WBAI radio and on the 5 Years Gone album got me through Vietnam. I played that cassette my cousin had made of the album for me until it was just shredded. 42 years later, I still say long live JJW!

I don't think one's birthplace should dictate their musical interests. If I had been born in Europe, where opera originated, would that mean I could only be interested in opera? I know there are a lot of people who are proud of their heritage, and resent what they consider "outsiders". But they should be flattered that the music of their origins attracts people from other areas or upbringings. That's what keeps the music alive!
