  • that crap lasted longer then the grunge shit and it is making a come back as well so it can't be that bad

  • I love everything about this version except for the solo. I think the '87 version fits the song a little better. The lull that this version's solo goes into just doesn't fit.

  • Wait... Was that Cozy Powell playing drums?

  • @musashihumar Fuck yeah!

  • @musashihumar you bet.

  • I just wished he had said 'drifter' instead of 'hobo' in this version. Otherwise, this version is better than the 1987 version.

  • This is better than the redo from 87.

  • Now I'm a complete Hair Metal guy through and through but I WAY prefer this version to any other. Despite what mainstream people would say, this is clearly the superior version. So RAW and real. Now I say I'm a Hair Metal guy....I'm a Motley Crue guy...but my favorite album is their debut album...before they were signed by a major label. My favorite for the same reason this is my favorite version of this song. It's raw and honest.

  • @vequintana Damn straight.

  • This is the Jon Lord-Ian Paice era of Whitesnake....and the one I like more than the ''hairmetal''...although that era has it's moments I like too.

  • i LOVE this version! reminds me of the 70s, pop music basically went downhill after the late 70s early 80s

  • Funny how this has aged better than that piece of crap other version.

  • 2:23 JON LORD <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

  • By far the best version. The '87 re-work was good for the spandex & hairspray brigade if you like that sort of thing but for quality of production, sound engineering, vocals, musician skills & the haunting church organ intro it cannot be beaten.

    I cringe when I hear the '87 re-work.

  • I like all three versions of this song, I prefer the 87 version the most, mostly because of the guitar solo, but I think muy favorite whitesnake song is slow an' easy from slide it in

  • I love both version, and now I look at them, his voice was best here. Whitesnake are my favourite band, and 1987 is my favourite album. Only thing is, if he kept singing like this, his voice would have been just as good today. I still consider him the greatest singer ever, but ofcourse, the way he sang from 1987 onwards put a lot of strain on his vocal chords, as some may know he had an op in '85 I think, and he said that made his voice better. Either way, he is awesome and a Legend.

  • the older the better

  • I mean seriously I'm hammered right now but it looks like Carlos Santana's in this Video!!!

  • @brianwein1 HAHAHAHAH not really, it's Colin Hodgkinson on bass.

  • carlos santana but i still love Coverdale

  • I had only ever heard the 87 version. after reading the comments there I came looking for this. Let me say, for a very good change it's nice to read comments about the song, clip and general music of the era rather than crap arguments over who is better then who. It says a lot about Whitesnake fans :)

This song has for some strange reason been stuck in my head all day long, even though I have never heard the original and the not the 87 for at least 20 years.

    I miss the 80's

  • Porr old DAvid really fucked up with the 1987 and the Slip of the Tongue. '87 has a few good track slip of the tongue is just bad. IT is nice thought that he realised how sucked into the 'hair metal' scene he had become and decided to retire for a few years as a result. Alll albums before 1987 were excellent! Hi albums after that shak period. REstless Heart Into the Light Starkers in Tokyo and Good to be Bad are all Brilliant. A real return to form of the late 70s early to mid 80s stuff.

  • This version is interesting. I like both versions equally. The only thing that gets me about this version is the fact that David Coverdale is rubbing the micstand against his nutsack. Granted, it was staple 80s fare to do that, but it still makes me laugh a bit today.

  • Wow. Sooo much different.

  • Comment removed

  • First off, anything with Cozy Powell on drums is automatically better than any version without. Add Jon Lord and if I'm not mistaken, Neil Murray, and you have epic win. Ironically, despite being chronologically older, this version has not aged nearly as much as its Aquanet counterpart.

  • if you're reffering to this version, you're right about neil murray but on the album it was ian paice on drums, he left before the video and Cozy came. But both drummes are amazing and I get what you mean.

  • Ya your right. Once you add in the popular synths of the day to any music it instantly puts a time-stamp on that song. The sparing use of synths and the earthy guitars make this version 100000000004x better thatn the'87

  • i lijke all 3 versions but i like the 87 version better

  • 1982, 1987 What is the third?

  • Ah the original version :) Been looking for this one for ages. I love this one better than the 1987 version because I always saw this song as a more slow-tempo song than the result with the 1987 version. Great song overall.

  • This definately has a "pre-hair metal" sound to it.. like old Aerosmith or Nazareth.. before they busted out all the hairspray and completely over-tracked everything. It's more down to earth and honest. Sounds like old MSG or Rainbow. Not like Warrant or Winger or Poison or all that crap that came later.

  • Im with you there.

  • @masonjarjar Although the Sykes-era did produce some pretty good songs. But yeah, this version is superior.

  • i love the 82 version :-)

  • Much, Much, Much Better Version

  • This version ROCKS! Luv it so much! Thanks for the upload... XD

  • This is the one and only good version with Jon Lord on the B3 - Coverdale has milked this song so much! It's his official tour slapper now and sounds dreadful. No wonder Jon was so pissed of when the 1984 version came out!

Why do they have to fuck up a perfect song???

  • There was no 84 version, it was released in '87 and then again in '92.

  • 1983 was the last time I saw Whitesnake with Jon in Donnington - Deep Purple reformed in '84 as we know, but David carried on THIS year with a new keyboarder and it sounded shite - not an official version maybe, but the first attempt to fuck this brilliant song up for good.

  • First time I've heard the "hobo" version... I think it's better without the typically 80s-style synths, and this version has some nice harmonies on the chorus which we didn't get on the updated version.

  • Ah, the hobo-version!!!:-)

  • WOW! THANKS 4 THE UPLOAD!

  • fantastic song

  • Wasn't Jon Lord in this version of Whitesnake.

  • Yes sir.

  • Great memories indeed..nuncjusz 1 ..NO!! There`s of course the mighty COZY POWELL (1947-1998) God rest his soul..driving the band..

So much in this video has become cult..look at Dc`s snake tie/belt..the whole way he "presents" himself..the song..a classic..raunchy rock an` blues..fantastic.

And now..in 2009..YES! Still going strong..QUALITY..never fades away ;)Thanks for the memories..WS..ever since 78..

  • Is that Ian Paice on drums? He played on "Saint & Sinners" album but I can't recognize him....

  • Ian Paice has recorded the song and all the "saints" album, but he was replaced by Cozy Powell in the band. that's why it's not good ol' Paicey :D all Whitesnake drummers were very good drummers

  • Even though I'll be hated for saying this, this is my least favorite out of the 3 versions. The radio mix is the best and it just rocks out the 80's vibe, this one is just too slow for a could-be great rock song.

  • I have to agree that this version is better. Less "eighties" sounding. At least it sounds less bad eighties. Prefer the intro keyboards on this as well.

  • Much more emotion in this original version. Great line up in this clip.

  • @rongatai This is my favourite version :)

  • @rongatai I like the clip line up too! But Neil Murray played on the album. Not Colin Hodgkinson. And Cozy Powell only actually played on the Slide It In album. They joined prior to the tour and video shoot.

  • "Saints And Sinners" is the best early Whitesnake album ever!

  • This is great, so much better than that shitty other version from the album "1987", sadly thats the one people in general remember.

  • yeah the other 2 versions really rock!
