Here in Montreal it get REAL COLD like -10 to 20 Celcius in winter. But thanks to El Ninio, this winter was as many of you know, the mildest on record. btw, do you think your Marquis has a special order paint, or is just a very rare two tone combo?
Yeah those ice storms are a bitch. Be glad you didn't lose power. I had a 77 Grand Marquis that was a great car. Never had to pump it more than once but it was kept in a garage so it didn't get as cold. Thanks for sharing.
well what can I say, if those old grand marquis can start up on a cold snowy winter day in Canada then surely it will start up down there is Texas USA.
Another great video, I knew it would start up eventually, just needed some time! It is supposed to be real cold where I am next week so I might make another starting video of mine if is below zero.
Wow, ice and snow in texas? Who would have guessed. That snow storm just hit here and lucky for me it didn't hit till late last night, early this morning. However, we did earn a snow day!! So there is some benefit. That video equipment looks very interesting! Gotta love Ford! funny enough when I left work at 10pm two days ago, my car started better and faster than some of my coworkers fuel injected ones!!
I used to have a 77 Mercury Grand Marquis Coupe. It started easy too. It was my daily driver so it never sat too many days but even in the coldest weather it usually started on the first try or certainly on the 2nd or third.
That's good you ended up with a day off! I'm unpacking the video equipment right now so I should have a video soon of some of it. This past night I put an electric radiator heater inside the car on a low setting and had no trouble at all with ice this morning...I may try it again tonight.
I agree with kjm1983. I think that's your choke pulloff (it's a little vacuum canister), it either needs replacing or adjustment. That running rich isn't exactly great for the engine.
Hi and Thanks for your Many GREAT videos. Count yourself lucky that you don't live in my area, it was -45F last night, we have to plug our cars in to have a hope they will start in the morning... and this is normal temperatures for this time of year (it can get much colder as well :-(.
Just recently, it dropped to -21F a week ago and every morning from then, temps have been dropping to -10F. This is the first time in over 2 weeks it's been over 20 degrees for the low. The coldest I can remember though was -27F in January 1994.
Hey that's -6 Celcius! lol I'd pay to have that kind of temperature here right now lol
but you can always rely on the good ol' Grand Marquis, eh? nice.
And the key in my LTD gets like that when it's cold too, usually when it gets really cold, they key gets stuck, and, I really gotta work to get it out lol
No, not if it is too hot. The water I used was from the hot water faucet and was of a comfortable temperature to put my hand in (probably 110-120 degrees)
I waited a few hours after I made this video (about 9AM) to go in to work at about noon when the mist had stopped. We got to go home early about 4:15 and just as I was leaving heavy freezing rain started falling. Luckily I got home before it got too bad but I am not looking forward to tomorrow morning.
wow man I hate it when the windshield keeps frosting up, you know I think we're heading into a different weather cycle like it was 50 years ago when the winters were colder and longer. 10 years ago our winters up here were a bit warmer, but in recent years they've been getting colder and snowyer
It's hard to say...here it has been pretty mild most of the winter. This is the only day we have had where the temperature has stayed below freezing all winter...I know though toward the north and midwest it has been bitterly cold this winter.
What does the temp go down to in the south 40 20? In Minnesota in can get very bad below 0.

I am digging your vids. What would you check for on the positive and negative lead on a wiper or blower motor on a car? Continuity?

For your information, ford refered to it as a Mercury Marquis without the grand.
TheTheErdfg 2 years ago
This is actually a Grand Marquis, it says so, right on it :)
There was a "Marquis" model offered at this time, as you say, but the "Grand Marquis" offered additional luxury items.

Future notice, when it's icy and nasty on the roads, don't bother going anywhere.

NH viewer here. Don't pour hot water on a cold windshield. It can cause it to crack.

Great video Chad, but you should REALLY adjust that choke..I can hear it running rich from all the way over here in Alabama :-)

Ice storms--one thing I don't miss about Dallas. Then again, it was fun to watch Texan natives try to navigate through it... :-)

Yes, when we get bad winter weather here it tends to be freezing rain/ice rather than snow. It was 76 degrees just a few days ago though!
