I used to pay to see Essence and wouldnt even party..I was at school....I learned not to look at him because you aint gonna do nothing but be blown away..The congas cant lie though...

I asked Mick for some lessons but he ignored me...Thats kool...I can take that..It just fuels my intensity to become great....

Hands down! Slim is the MJ of the congas but IM Kobe Bryant...Aint nothing wrong with acknowledging greatness, NOTHING.. HES DA BEST

I'm a DC boy and I like the DC sound but there are many better conga players out there. Go-go players are often self-taught but the modern conga was developed in Cuba. There are schools in Cuba that teach musical theory as well as time tested practices for getting the best sounds from congas. There are excellent teachers in the DC area that could prepare someone to play congas for jazz, latin, funk. Message me for resource info and links if you want to see what I'm talking about. Peace!

@eslubin I'm not hating. Mickey plays GoGo on the congas really well and I can't. I'm pointing out that conga playing is bigger than GoGo with a history that started with the descendents of African slaves in Cuba. The technique and sound are different but someone who learns not just GoGo but other styles will in the long run make themselves a stronger player.
