  • New 50mph limit on that stretch of the A35, - RESULT!

Another one in the groin for the J. Clarkson-like twats out there.

    Glad I'm not a florist...

  • i drive that road every time i go to work :D and why are you doing 30 in a 70???? when it goes into double lanes put your fkin foot down!!!! its painful!!!!!!! ahh ok i see the roads work made it a 30 but still after the single lane i dont see why its a 30.

  • i drive that road every time i go to work :D and why are you doing 30 in a 70???? when it goes into double lanes put your fkin foot down!!!! its painful!!!!!!!

  • LOL 30 is insane, looks like a highway

  • Hopefully you're just going through a phase...

  • huh?

  • I agree with the video - speeding is not socially unacceptable in many instances simply because the majority perceive the speed limit for that section to be lower than necessary. Whilst we continue to suffer from a "speed causes accidents" mentality and then we will have ever lower limits and ever more ignoring of them.

  • whys that road a 30 then? nearer the end dual carrageway?. I mean shud be 50 i would thought or was it the road works.

  • @Paulsb2005 the road is a 70 normally but i guess it went down to 30 and stayed at 30.

  • Okay duno who the others are but have u on film doing 35 by own admittence, ur nicked lol... actually ur allowed to do 33 in a 30. 77 in a 70. ur allowed 10% on each ten miles an our, so 11 in 10. 22 in 20. 33 in 30. 44 in 40 and so on. and 77 max. Thats to allow for speedo error, also if ya clocked on speed gun which is rare now, ask for last time that gun was officialy serviced if it was more than 12 prior. months, ur cleared. Altho try it lol

  • You're a brawny cunt.

  • Very telling that liars/simpletons who claim that "Speeding is always dangerous" (even though everyone does it) can have their argument singlehandedly floored just by showing them this video of what actually happens out there. They'll carry on saying it, of course, because some of them like to see car drivers suffer, and some of them are too proud to admit they've been wrong. Such things are more important to them than ACTUALLY REDUCING ACCIDENTS. What callous, horrible people.

  • Jeez - car drivers actually do 'suffer', eh? Go park your arse in A&E for a few hours and you'll see what suffering is all about.

  • That's why I advocate actual methods of reducing accidents, instead of speed cameras. Since hospital admissions haven't gone down since speed cameras were introduced, I'm sure you'll now join me in calling for more effective road safety instead. Or rather you won't, because you like cameras, due to wanting to make car drivers suffer and/or you have a vested interest in the operation of cameras. As I said, callous or what? WHERE IS YOUR EVIDENCE that cameras reduce accidents?

  • Far from a vested interest (although I've not even mentioned them to date!) you'll find I'm your numero uno camera-agnostic. Forgive me repeating myself, but 'suffer' is an inappropriate verb; try 'tolerate'. As for 'callous', 'horrible people'; get real. All I want to reduce/stop is the ruination of lives and the callous indifference to RTAs that prevails. Unless I've missed them, what are your methods for reducing accidents?

  • Principally educating drivers, engineering problems out of roads, and increasing the number of proper traffic police on patrol. Now WHERE IS YOUR EVIDENCE that stupidly low limits or cameras reduce accidents? Why not admit that stupidly low limits like the one in question solve absolutely nothing? Why are people "TWATS" just for exceeding the speed limit (especially inappropriate ones) when that isn't what causes the vast majority of RTAs?

  • Whilst I'm at it... there's the A35 thru Slepe/Morden etc. Jeez. What a tragedy THAT is. Body count or what?! Just slow down all you TWATS out there. What's the hurry anyway?! - you'll only get caught in the traffic that's inevitably queued up (probably behind an accident) ahead!

  • Ok, so you want to drive slowly at all times. At what speed would you like to drive?

  • Not wot I said. I try to respect speed limits but want the TWATS that don't to slow down. So, the average speed around towns/cities is? 17.8mph! Anything between that and 30 is a bonus. Elsewhere, 50mph should alleviate some of the (almost daily) carnage on the A35 alone. Motorways at 70 are okay but keep twats off until they know how to drive properly. Another bonus of lower speeds; cuts the amount of crap cars chuck into the air.

  • Ok, agreed, my arguement is against limits which are so low that they are ignored by all drivers, and the deliberate targeting of those limits by the "safety" partnerships, instead of directly targeting dangerous driving (including dangerous speed). The accident rate is unacceptable, and I think this is a direct result of totally misguided road safety policy. Congestion is also unacceptable, and it would be so easy with so little effort, to improve road safety AND reduce journey times.

  • I've travelled down this road daily for 20+ years. I suspect the speed limits are aimed at those COMPLETE TWATS on the road who have absolutely no idea how an accident at any speed can fuck up you, your passengers or whoever you hit (incl. roadworkers), for ever. Regularly, almost daily, people slam into each other travelling East towards the Holes Bay roundabout. I'd imagine the roadworkers placed these signs to try and calm the whole thing down a tad. Works for me.

  • Yeah. Make the limit unreasonably low and all accidents will magically stop. Do you know or care how many accidents are actually caused by normal drivers who speed? Do you really want to save lives or are you happy spouting dogma? Do you know or care that driving is far more complicated than what number is on the speedo?

Cameras aren't saving lives, as the DfT's own figures tell us. If people want to go faster than you, just let them. No need to get jealous and look for ways of punishing them.

  • Hey b0mbus(tic), Your tone suggests you belong to the aforementioned category! Yeah, the number on the speedo is exactly what shifts the 'elementary' into the 'complicated' zone and as most drivers don't do 'complicated' they need to be persuaded to slow down. Jealous? Yeah, right! I've got a fast car and ditto motorbike; sfw if I have to slow down for the safety of others? Punishing? wtf? Saving twats from inflicting damage on themselves and non-twats, more like.

  • You know that speed limit's ridiculous. Your comments are based on assumption and prejudice. Where is your evidence? Have you ever looked at the numbers in detail or just decided that it's "obvious that slower is safer"? Please visit Safe Speed and provide a detailed rebuttal, with numbers, of any of the pages there. I bet you can't, but that won't stop your simplistic rubbish and insults. Don't be a busybody or a control freak, just concentrate on your own driving.

  • Wait up, sounds like you need some balance; do yourself a favour and google monbiot safe speed.

  • Do us all a favour and emigrate.

  • Sure; before I go, did you read the article?

  • Not sure what this person is trying to show.

Is he making the point that a 30mph limit is the result of the anal pratt in the council who set the limit, or is he trying to show that most drivers can use their discretion when a speed lmit is artificially low?

  • Mostly the former, although the latter also is a fair comment in practice, but of course, incredibly dangerous!!

  • It is always incredibly dangerous to drive at 32mph in a 30mph limit, or even 50mph in a 30mph limit when on a dual carriageway as shown in this video.

I am surprised any of the overtaking drivers lived to tell the tale.

    traveltax-org-uk

  • Totally insane that this 30 limit extends for miles beyond the road works when it clearly should be 60 or 70. No wonder drivers ignore these speed limits.
