Just for clarification I'm not saying they are good gimmicks, it's just there not a Davey Richards which is just a fighting champion. They have characters, do they have their own look, no. I totally agree that there needs to be people in mainstream with successful eye-popping gimmicks, but it also needs to be given to people who can embrace it like a Zack Ryder(i feel he's over-rated though). I would love for Brodus to actually capture the WWE Championship in his new gimmick, but it's not likely
Randy had a gimmick he acted like psycho person who did snake/viper motions.
John Cena has a gimmick, he's the ultimate good guy, boy scout character. He had the Marine gimmick before. Super Cena.
They have gimmicks it's just not prevalent.
But the thing is why i feel all these people go to Indy Wrestlers, at least not the posers, is that they got sick of the shitty product on mainstream. If the mainstream could make gimmicks that were interesting enough, with talented people it could succeed.
@Pandillatime3 Is sad that a lil nickname now a days makes someone have a gimmick. Based on your argument about Randy Orton and John Cena then everybody in wrestling has a gimmick.
As far as indy wrestling. Im extremely thankful for indy wrestling but it just seems it ha staken away from gimmicks and people would rather see 'Matt Smith vs John Doe' in a 5 star match then see an Undertaker vs Yokozuna in a 4 and a half star match that has a good story around it.
I agree with you my man good points and it seems like every wrestler in WWE right now has a first and last name...if that makes since no real gimmick just a regular person which gets boring
@nickygou32 Yea if I wanna see two generic looking guys in generic tights go at it, Ill watch MMA where its not predetermined and in some cases the individuals actually have legitimate heat amongst one another and not pretending to hate each other. Maybe thats why Ive become such a big MMA fan due to the loss of gimmicks and rather seeing two generic looking guys actually go at it, instead of have a prescripted 'fight'.
I agree with I think gimmicks are a good thing that need to come back. It does make wrestling fun but the only thing that I would change is put a little less in talking promos like the in ring promos. Kinda wish they did things old school like late 80's early 90's
