  • Great documentary regarding a Great City! Having been born and raised in New York, my wife and I relocated to Florida, just North of Tampa in 2000, but we love Sarasota!

  • I lived in Sarasota for 17 years, moved to LA and will never move back. Very materialistic fake crowd of people, lots of gold diggers. It matters what kind of car you have, if you have a boat, how much money you have in your bank account, and it also matters what high school you went to even in your 30's. The social scene is completely based on bars and clubs, drugs and alcohol. I do have some very good friends there and I for sure miss the red lifegaurd shack at Siesta Beach, but yea no thanks

  • couldnt agree with you more and I live in Lakewood Ranch. annoying

  • more like sorrysota

  • I lived in Sarasota for 12 years, and intend on moving back. The atmosphere is really nice, but alot of the people are quite the arsehole.

  • Lol the lady in the red yelled at me for skateboarding infront of her market stall -.-

  • I love Sarasota!

The downtown area is like smalltown U.S.A. and rich in beauty and culture.

The new europian circle truly adds to the charm and ambience that is Sarasota.

There is something going on almost every weekend, with festivals, exhibits that are world class.

Downtown Sarasota is a diners paradise with every ethnic cuisine represented.

We are regulars at the Two Senoritas mexican restaurant.

The Saturday morning farmers market is as good as it gets!!

  • The Palmer Bank was torn down for "improvements"

  • lol ive never seen food like that in srq EVER!!!!!

  • The city that has destroyed most of its landmarks and put up condos for mainly commercial reasons...sad

  • sarasota; Becareful they tow away cars downtown like crazy!

some people are cool, and most SUCK! :sarasota. been there done that,

    won't go back. ( ;

  • I love Sarasota, I've been here since 2005 and it feels like paradise compared to where I'm from. A great place to live and work, the people, weather, and beaches are fantastic. Thanks to all our customers from Sarasota who have been when us along the way.

  • i live in detroit michigan, but when i went to sarasota and spent 2 mnths with fam, all the teenage girls i seen was ugly as shit .. beautiful beaches though

  • im in sarasota now and its 42 degrees.

  • @RSJohn45 ....have you ever been to " Main Bookshop " ( biggest remainder bookshop in sarasota ? Please do answer ....Thanks

  • @TheFugitive1000 no i havnt, i live 10 minutes outside of washington dc so i dont spend a lot of time in sarasota, especially bookshops hehe.

  • srq suck nuts. big city feel? thats fucking precious. this town should be turned into a parking lot. i love the tool who says the real estate can't stay on the market. shit hole fucking town has one of the highest foreclosure rates in the country. get you facts straight asshole. fuck srq!! move to the moon

  • check the youtube video statistics:

    This video is popular with:

    "

    Male 45-54

    Male 35-44

    Female 45-54 "

need I say more? Old people. pssh.

  • Sarasota Boom is over my Condo worth about 1/3 what I paided for it in 2006

  • ew those people are on crack. i live in sarasota. i hate it, so does everyone else i know.

  • oh, and BHS sucks.

  • Sarasota sucks if you aren't an old geezer, a yuppie, or one of the artsy fartsy types.

  • Hey, I linked to your video for Google Fiber. Great job promoting Sarasota.

  • Nice video. Very nicely done. A follow up on Sarasota... the building has stopped for now, however, there's still a lot of people here enjoying all the cool stuff that was built when this video was shot.

  • well It has to be better then Indiana!! Thats where I have lived all my life. Ive been lots of places in florida and from my experience I love it.. I dont know what its like to live there. I HATE SNOW sick of it. My back is still hurting from digging out of it this winter. I think some people are just saying negative things because they have lived there a long time or born there. People ready for change. I hate indiana. The lake is nice and Indianapolis . Florida has to be better here.

  • i have lived here in Sarasota my entire life, going to SHS right now. It is an amazing city. It DOES cost money, but so do other cities. I love the culture here, all the festivals Downtown, EVERYTHING. Except the weather. The weather here is pretty unpredictable (like all of Florida). In winter, it can be 80° one day, then the next it is 52. My family is from Brooklyn & NJ, and we visit there all the time. In my opinion i prefer Sarasota over NY & NJ.

  • @ikeike12345 I live in Rochester NY. I know what you mean. My parents live in Sarasota though !!!!!

  • i lived in sarasota for 5 years i thought it was a fucking awesome place better than englewood and yeah they are mean to homless people there

  • Sarasota is quite good next to places like Englewood or Parrish, but Sarasota still not on my top radar.. Seattle and Portland are and all that is partially due to FL weather as well.

  • @ericgodofthunder4567

3 months ago you said "I lived in sarasota for 5 years...and yeah they are mean to homless (sic) people there". I lived there 3.5 years and never heard or saw any homeless people in the downtown or north-Sarasota areas saying Sarasota was "mean" to them. What do you mean? There are homeless people in all cities. Cities make services and help available to homeless people openly. So do churches and non-profits. You tell me how that's being "mean".

  • @LHZZ12MM

It's a statistic from the national advocacy organization. USA Today had an article about it. I'm 15. Stop trying to pick arguments with a 15 year old.

  • @lickedhand

    1. If you make a comment, be prepared for responses from those agreeing and disagreeing. That is what debate is. This is the essence of what makes America America. Sorry if it came across as "argumentative". 2. There is no "national advocacy organization" that I could google. What's the actual name of the organization you're referring to? 3. Advocacy groups use statistics that support their views, not opposing ones. Be careful to check/verify with 3rd party/neutral sources.

  • Sarasota's actually one of the better places to live in Florida -- it's just that Florida in general sucks.

  • Agree.

  • Seriously all you people saying you dont have to be rich to live and enjoy sarasota are retarded. There is absoulutely no point in living in srq if your not a millionaire and retired and dont have to work. You have no life if you have to work or struggle to survive for chump change in srq and to top that off you cant get a good looking girl with out paying for the dumb whore. So keep dreaming living on chump change down there.

  • @counterculture22

I'd love to just flame you to pieces, but I won't. I'm better than that. We all start at the bottom. The difference comes when we decide whether to be dependent on government for our sustenance, or on ourselves. This is what makes the USA the USA. Noone is holding you back. You can go make a million yourself if you have a dream to do it. THAT is what conservative ideals are about. It's time to grow up and embrace your real reality.

  • @LHZZ12MM BUDDY YOUR THE ONE THAT NEEDS A REALITY CHECK. DONT ACT LIKE I DONT KNOW ANYTHING. I WAS BORN IN SORRYSOTA AND I KNOW FOR A FACT YOU WONT BECOME A MILLIONARE THERE. HA LET ALONE HAVE A LIFE AND NOT HAVE TO JUST SCRAPE BY. THE PLACE JUST SUCKS FOR EMPLOYMENT WAGES OR TRYING AND HOPING YOUR BIZZ WONT FAIL. ASK ANY LOCAL DONT JUST PIN FACTS ALL ON ME. YOU WANNA REALY FEEL THE PAIN WAIT TILL THAT OIL SLICK HITS YOUR BEACHES YOUR GONA BE BEGGIN TO GET OUT OF THERE.

  • @counterculture22

Thanks for the reply. Well, if Sarasota hasn't been good for you, what can you do to change that? This is America. Noone's holding you back. We are the authors of our own realities. The only limits we have are the ones we choose to accept.

  • @counterculture22 I used to live on chump change in Sarasota...it sucked,no decent work at all

  • sarasota sucks ass,i lived there for bout 4 years, thank god im out of that boring ass small place

  • I live in Sarasota and the guy driving around talking about the downtown being on the water is wrong. Downtown is several blocks away from the water. It is a nice place to visit, people are not all that friendly because of all the transplants who brought their attitudes from other places, and if you decide to come, bring a lot of money. It is not cheap here and yes, it is small city with big city ideas/culture and you'll pay for them. I have lived here since the 80's and if I could leave I would

  • @1966spartan1 well then, leave

  • Oh, come on.........you know you'd miss me! Also, you should read some of the other comments about Srq. This isn't Paradise, Dorothy!

  • 2 things i must say, The milf in the red is hottttt. and i saw my house :)

  • No one here gives a shit about anyone.

I'm starving to death and pull pennies

serving food at nasty peoples weddings

and events. One day they'll drive all the middleclass out and have no one to poor

    their alcohol for them.

May they all rot in shallow graves!!!

  • TheFugue0 your starving to death but you can afford a computer and internet? where are your priorities??

  • whoever nativebadass is, shut the fuck up. That's my hometown you're bullshitting about, and you obviously have no clue about anything that goes on there. My family was middle class growing up there, and my family members are very successful people. You have no place to talk, you don't know what you are talking about, and have no right in hell to judge my home for being rude when you jumpin here and act like an asshole. period.

  • e love Sarasota

  • sarasota is rated the meanest city in the nation to their homeless

  • Sarasota is not mean to their homeless... they just don't want them wandering aimlessly and begging. They feed anyone three meals a day at the Salvation Army, they have a day shelter where homeless can wash their clothes, use emenities, and get financial counseling. They also give bus passes for $2 a month to the homeless. They just wont tolerate panhandling and unruly behavior. Single homeless people have to pay $10/night @ the Sally after 10 days, but they also get help finding a job.

  • @lickedhand

1 year ago you stated "sarasota is rated the meanest city in the nation to their homeless". Your source for that statistic? How about this statistic: 95% of homeless Sarasota residents agree that Sarasota is the best place to live. Source? My head. The point? Every city has homeless. Every city has policies to deal with homeless at some level. Who decides which city is "meanest"? And what is the definition of "mean"? Typical liberal (aka ignorant) dribel.

  • @lickedhand no surprise there. downtown sarasota isnt even nice anymore. i see more homeless then normal people around. they are always trying to come into our restaurant and ask for water or cups of ice (so there alcohal is cold) or to use our restrooms. some even come into the restaurant and ask the staff AND the customers that are enjoying their food for change. i can see why we're the meanest to our homeless.

  • @lickedhand cuz its all old people :p

  • I was born & raised in Sarasota. I left and moved to New York for a job and career in 1980's. I visit periodically and I'm constantly amazed by the uncontrolled growth, sprawling messing that developers and real estate whores have leveled upon this once quaint town. Sarasota is for the rich. Middle and working-class people get to work 24-7 and never enjoy the amenities that lures them there in the first place.

  • I spend winters in sarasota and do nothing but enjoy the beach, restaurants and arts. My friends and I also squeeze in boating several times a week, if we aren't at happy hour someplace. None of us are working champ! Those days are over! Hahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Go shovel some snow , and try not to be so judgemental.

  • @jsouce

I live in NYC and that sounds like NYC ur describing. NYC is taken advantage of by foreign tourists mostly and out of towners

I'd like to visit Sarasota and see what it offers

  • HOLIDAYS in Sarasota in 96 days^^

  • I like Sarasota because they haven't arrested me for bank robbery yet. Anybody got change for a 100?

  • i'm middle class and live in sarasota but we do have some rich folks , our fair share of celebrities as well.

  • sarasota ia full of OLD people and they are rude, racist, and mean. Jobs in sarasota don't pay the scale you can get in other cities. If you are very rich 10 million plus sarasota is a great city as anyother city would be but if you are middle class it has NOTHING to offer.

  • I agree. I only have 9 million and it sucks. Can't wait till I get to 10 million. Then I'll be on easy street here in Sarasota.

  • lol...you dont have to be rich to live here..you have to be rich to live like a rich person...yes... But i came from SF...try living there, you will think this place is dirt cheap. However, the rent and cost of living here has significantly increased in the last 9 years.

  • CONDOS ARENT A GOOD THING!

  • you see most of florida is filled with low life red necks so thats why people think Sarasota is a quote "rich city" when it really is not. Its just a tad bit nicer than most of the surounding area

California (Orange County) cities inside of that county (where I live) could be called "rich citys"

  • sarasota is not a rich city i live there

  • lol you don't have to be rich. I live in Sarasota and my family is not rich at all.

  • You have to be a rich person to make it in Sarasota? Oh...those evil rich people! They have taken over the whole city and poor little me.... without any opportunity. Well, there is always Bradenton. Get real. YeeeHaw!

  • Everyone complaining can leave or never come back. Sarasota has many wealthy people and many people who are not so wealthy. There is a tremendously philanthropic atmosphere and has always been. It is multi-cultural beyond what most people are saying on these posts. I have lived here almost 30 years and seen it's transformation and not everything is positive but I haven't been to another FL city that I would rather live in.

  • Remember the wooden humpback bridge leading off Lido Key to Longboat? The Bee Ridge Twin Drive Inn? Zinn's Resturant? The Sarasota Sun Sox? The Bullett Hole and the Elbow Room? Cheap Clothes? WSRZ FM 102.5? Bob Keene? WKXY?

  • You have to a rich person to make it in Sarasota. The traffic sucks year around. The beaches are the best part of the town, but unless you've got millions, forget it.

  • I live tre.my fam isnt too rich

  • Lol..i was there just a few minutes ago..i live there.

  • i went on holiday there less than a week ago!

  • I have family there and I'm scottish, I gotta go over there and see this fantastic city :)

  • what does you being scottish have to do with w/ coming here?

  • Because I have family from there :)

  • I Live In Sarasota AND I Just Wanna Know Why The Left Out The Extreem Homless Problem In Downtown sarasota? Thats The Wonder Of Film Editing!

  • Puh-leese ! You have not seen an extreme homeless population! Go to SanFran, or for that matter go to St. Pete or Tampa. There is a small homeless population that mostly hang in a small downtown area and is mostlt transients escaping the cold, never see em' in August so they are not actually OUR homeless!

  • actually its not extreme compared to other cities of its size..however..i live downtown and walk to work down main st...and in the last year the homeless people around that area alone..has easily trippled.

  • o hell no i live here this place is multi-cultural i am a colombian. there are alot of people from all over the world. there are a whole bunch of latinos and everything so shut ur mouth cause all there doin is interviewing resteraunt owners.p.s. the weed is good

  • EVERYONE

  • good weed? hells yea

  • Sarasota has class system.

    #1 the financially self-governing

    #2 the Financially harassed

  • aint that the truth

  • Yeah, not exactly

  • Yeah, not exactly

  • lol I live in sorrysota and lemme tell you, the beach is the ONLY thing good here...It's SOOO boring unless you are loaded with too much money. Even movies are expensive! It averages about 30 dollars to go to the movies. And a shack of a house here cost about 250,000 to start..I decent loooking house is about 500,000...

  • Florida just doesn't do it for me, it looks like Texas with an ocean if that makes sense. All flat, urban sprawl, way too many people for the size of the area and extremely pricey.

  • you shouldnt talk bad about a city unless you REALLY know what your talking about. i live here and i have a couple poor friends......... and sarasota is actually very Multi-cultural. We even do events to celebrate mult-culture.

    i love sarasota.

  • I love, love Sarasota!!! Sarasota is

the best place to live in the whole state of Fla. And- a little advise for "dmrecords". If you don't like Sarasota-don't visit! I think we'll be alright without ya!

  • Sarasota's nice, but you have to be rich to live here. I miss Tampa.

  • Rich people and people who serve rich people; nothing else.

  • I agree with dmrecords and laluna7580 sarasota is not multi-cultural.There is no caribbean activitys for the people from the caribbean islands when I say caribbean island I mean the real caribbean people, not people opening restaurants calling it caribbean. All the caribbean activitys are in Tampa,Port charlote.Sarasota is more of a old people town. They dont have any caribbean music shops or plays or shows in Sarasota.I will have to say Sarasota is not Multi-culture. Lets not talk about jobs.

  • THIS IS WHERE I LIVE!! YAY!!

  • there is a lot of racism in sarasota and is not multi cultural thats bull shit !

  • Multi-cultural????

Where are the latin and african american folks???

  • Wouldn't the guy from Peru qualify as Latin? There are "African American folks" there, head up to Newtown "Estates" and absorb the culture. But it does not matter what you are, most property in Sarasota is expensive as hell. In the last few years that whole area became terribly overpriced. Besides its humid as hell and crowded, so thumbs down from me.
