why does a document standard have to take Binary data? that is stupid, and dangerous!

OOXML is a broken standard. Don't endorse, promote of use it. Microsoft has 'bought' votes in order to get their standard approved as an ISO standard. Just search for more info on OOXML on the internet and you will see why it's a bad standard.
