I think, the difference between them is, that Trent Reznor LIVES (for) his music and you can feel that in every song! Especially in hurt; primarily if you know, why - or for whom - he wrote it.

Johnny Cash only sings it because of the money and the glory.

I think, he doesn't have any feelings to this song and so it sounds dead and absolutely false.

It is not, that I don't like Cash, but this song doesn't belong to him!

And I think what you said is completely backwards. If anything, then Trent has been lately doing things for money and glory, while Johnny Cash...Let's face it, he was an icon for his whole life. He never cared really about money, he was a convict after all. All he really cared about is what he represents and his image. And I also think that he puts as much, if not more, emotion into what he did than Trent does. Johnny was a real musician, one of few this century.
