My dad died a few years ago, but shortly before he did, he gave me a list of songs to see if I could get hold of them on the web. They were mostly obscurities from the fifties and sixties such as this. I didn't recognise the name of the track when written down, but as soon as I heard it, it instantly came back to mind. Richard Park was a bit before my time but I must have remembered it from listening to it through the wall when I was in my bed and my folks were listening to Clyde at night.
im still trying to get it as soon as i get a copy ill upload it to youtube
maureen hart was a glaswegian singer who made a version of sweet dreams but sadly maureen died of lukemia and as a tribute to her dr dick (richard park ) and mr abbie played the song as there closing song every tuesday and sunday night on radio clyde 261
the song played at the end of richard parks dr dicks midnite surgery was actually maureen hart version of sweet dream it was also played at 2 00 on a tuesday nite wednesday morn as well and also on mr abbies show as well mr abbies still stays in east kilbride 2011 richard park now stays in london and still works a dj on virgin radio
I always thought this was the "B" side of I need you so. This song has nothing on the Soulful Tear -Jerking I need you so. Don't care for this tune @ all!
Remember this from my college days..over 40 years ago. It was a single on Juke Boxes (remember what that is). Strangely, it was very popular to the growing gay sub-culture..the sexual revolution didn't began until the early 80s. Of course, this was short lived, Disco took the US by storm. Beautiful songs and voices gave way to folk music, hippies, flower children, hight-heel boots and bell-bottom jeans and weed..and Viet Nam was brought right into our living rooms. Good to hear this again.
I'm one of the biggest Patsy Cline fans in this world but even I have to admit that she just cannot sing this song nearly as well as Tommy McClain. In my opinion this song belongs
has to be the rawest and talented voice I have ever heard...just listen to the vocals and you will agree that the vocal talent is not fake or influenced at all...wow
I prefer this version of the song rather than any other. Something about it suggests the night-time: the time to dream. There is a plaintive sincerity in his voice that is, at once, charming, comforting and very atmospheric. This used to be played on Capital Radio in London at the end of the Randall E Rose show, I believe. A beautiful interpretation of Don Gibson's song.
this song was No 1 the summer my Dad died in 1966 I was 14 at the time and have tried for years to find it thank you so much for posting it. His voice is so beautiful.
This is mom and dad's very first song.... they fell in love to this song! Apparently some hot and heavy moments....hmmmm... may i have been conceived to this song?? Just let dad listen to this, mom is gone and he's long been remarried! Thanks for making it possible to bring my dad this song
It's a little eerie, or maybe surreal would be the way to describe it. Definitely the best version, which says a lot, given all the artists who've done this song.
Haunting is the best way to describe this song. It is the best bar non. It was great growing up in the 50's with the best ever music. Non better since. Thank you for the great memories I still hang onto from my High School "Hurting" days. This version of sweet Dreams is from his hurting heart. You can hear his tears in this song. The best ever.
This one is my favorite "Sweet dreams". When I was a jock in Detroit, Lansing and Grand Rapids it was always requested. Very sincere..and yes it is thou Tommy is singing in his dreams. Very heart felt
This is such a haunting version of this song - almost like he's singing it from a dream. I actually like it much more than Patsy's...more than anyone else's. Could listen to Tommy singing it all day long. He makes it so very personal. I remember it so clearly from the Summer of 1966, when I was in love for the very first time. Thanks for posting this!
I've always loved the version of this song by Patsy Cline, but I also love this one as well. I heard Tommy's version of this song in the 70s and 80s but as the oldies radio playlist became more narrow, Tommy's record became one of the long list of undeserved forgotten oldies.
I love this song, my very favorite of all. I first heard it racing down town in a 64 chevy all chromed out. Gosh, I'm old. Thanks for sharing this song.
Dr Dick's Midnight Surgery, I'm sure was on a Tuesday. Dr Dick being Richard Park and I'm sure was called Nostalgia when it started. Either way, cool song and cool memories :o))
@davedee31165 this song brings back some brilliant memories Richard Park (Dr Dicks Midnight surgery , listening on a big massive old fasioned radio ,what a long time ago that seems .
@LadyPuddleton Tommy still plays the clubs and festivals in south Louisiana with Warren Storm, Willie Tee, etc. These are not only the granddaddy's of Swamp Pop, but also the roots of Rock and Roll and Blue-Eyed Soul!! Catch 'em while they're still here with us!! Kinda like Jerry Lee and Dr. John!! Awesome and still kickin' - a lot to be said for that!! To Hell with BP, we still have a lot to be thankful for in South Louisiana!!
Patsy Cline's beautiful version will of this song always be the definitive one and I'm a huge Patsy Cline fan. I do like swamp pop and Louisiana music, so I'll say that Tommy's version is awesome in its own way. A classic song. Period!
@CALI25359 and what i am saying is that it is a shame that is seems don gibson seems to be so unrecognized for this song. you are stating that you like both versions you mentioned or that both versions are great. That to me suggests that it is a great song and i would tend to think don gibson can be considered most responsible for that and perhaps deserves some recognition.
danced to this at the high chaperal night club in late sixties we had a blast... Tommy mclain performed there and another club called bambo ....
