@d3boy2002 Indeed and also when stopping to even smallest hill, only way was down with those tires, some good winter tires, even old ones are so much better, no matter what the weather or hill they just bite and there is no problems, sadly most of winter tires sold around the world are not so good.
Even with studded snows on the back of a friends 240D Volvo we got stuck on a level street. Old Volvo = snow fail. We had a big bag of sand in the back too. That was 15 years ago, perhaps with some nice Nokians it's be drivable in 2011 ??
@JacanaProductions I happen to have 240 Diesel volvo too, never had trouble with it on snow, often drove forest roads that had snow so deep that front lip did act as a snow plow, surely stopping on those conditions to uphill would cause problems but with bit of planning ahead I never got stuck to snow. I had NordFrost 3 Gislaved tires and most driving I did at 2007-2008 with it, even those tires were so much ahead of what cheap tires used to be at 90's. Best winter car, imo.
@jfv65 I guess they are too horrible even for that, wet weather grip might be something near to wet soap at bathtub.Good part is that they don't surprise, they will slide. I got them tires from my mother and it was around year 2000, she had bought them around 1995 if I'm not horribly mistaken, so they are now 16 years old tires, body is good so might get new thread put to them if it is not too expensive, would be enough good for museum car.
I wouldnt say your tires are bad. I have the same kind of results on my brandnew Snowtrex tires which come best out of tests. You're getting there, even uphill, and that wouldnt be possible with summertires. Thats the difference, if you want full grip you should get spikes or real snowtires (which drive awfull without snow)
Those are real snowtires with spikes, or whatever spikes there were left ;-)
Good amount of thread left, very old and hard rubber.
With Viking Protech 500 summer tires I had more grip on ice.
My current daily ride has Continental Viking Contact 5 tires, stops on snow like it would be a summer. Compared to tires at video, these new ones stop car in 1/4th of distance.
Seems fun to me, just braking is very problematic :\
