Which one is better Sony a290 or Canon eos 400d?

@rensper depends what's most important to you: check out this link - seems like canon's better for low light and you have many more lenses, whereas sony has better color depth and an image stabilization feature missing from the 400d.

@JayyPizzle oh man, Jay! sorry - I read this too quickly. Sony A290 has NO video capture, HD or otherwise. If video is important to you and you were thinking of the D5000, you might want to compare to the Canon 60D.

@manuelbribiesca Well, we haven't gotten a test model of the A290 in yet but when we do, we'll be sure to do a comparison between the two cameras. Without having tested the camera firsthand, it's hard to make a recommendation aside from the fact that with the Nikon you'll have more lens options.
