  • That pic of Pigpen@ 2:09 looks like Lemmy...or Lemmy looks like him in that pic. ;)

  • pigpen's love of alcohol. ha, i mean it was his life he did what he wanted so its whatever. but jeez how can you enjoy being shitfaced nonstop?

  • I Believe This Was A Video Clip From KGO-TV's Channel 7 News Tonight's Entertainment News Reports On Grateful Dead's 20th Anniversary In June 1985.

  • Not all Deadheads were hippies. Not that there's anything wrong with hippies. It's just that I wish all these new clips and documentaries would show that you didn't have to wear tie-die or grow dredlocks. In the end it came down to the music, the unbelievable jams.

  • mickey hart really sounds like jerry in this interview

  • It's tough to get to record news multiple reports, even though in this one they announce that there will be more! I was lucky enough to have been at all of the shows depicted except in the 67 in the park!

    San Diego

  • Too bad it didn't last another 20 years...

  • Jerry looks rough in that interview.

The music is the very air we BREATHE!!!

Keepin it real brothers and sisters.

  • I walk out the door in Boulder, Colorado to go see the twenieth anni shows in the summer of 1985 and didn't come home until the last note on July 9, 1995. Those were hardly my first shows but I decided then and there at the Greek Theater in Berkeley that I was not going to miss a show until the end, I held fairly true to my goal except the two and half year hiatus in prison for LSD. I was there in Chicago for the last note. A promise that I had made myself in 1986.

  • @WaywardBill woaw i too saw them at the Greek a bunch... but your story brought tears to my eyes... bit about the last notes did it...

I saw them first in Europe March 81... then in Barcelona in October of the same year, was the last show of tour, and i promised myself i would see the next show. So i crossed 'the big waters' ... I didn' come home to belgium until 2002. Lived in Marin, caught all i could in CA. Sorry u went to jail for L. That's scandalous in my book ;-)

  • ShOOOOO i was there @ those shows......BERKELEY GREEK THEATER 85 for my bd. It's my bd again today ya'll and i can tell ya.... I'd rather be at a Grateful Dead concert!

  • @WEIR4EVER Should of been around in the beginning...but then u'd be my age...lol!

  • @Jenscool i think that would still be worth it! ;-)

  • @WEIR4EVER Sure was!

  • The lyrics to the Grateful Dead songs on the Live Dead, American Beauty, and Workingman's Dead albums changed my life.

  • @grannygear

I was 15 when I headed out one weekend on a mtn bike. Went to a local Park with streams/forests etc. I was solo, so it hit me more as the headphones filled my ears. As if it were narrating and I watched the park come alive - I kid you not. It was American Beauty and I don't care what anyone says about studio work. I can't say that the album changed my life, but it was about as comforting as one could imagine. It was just a big hug and good friend that day.

    jerry garcia.

  • "You never hear a song played the same way twice" or once, for that matter.

  • i wish LSD was still legal....

  • right, brother! it´s time to make a change legalize, don´t criticize - better is to teach the people, about this unique substanze. So everybody is free to take it or not to take it! Sorry, just dreaming...

  • "I think it's too bad that everybody's decided to turn on drugs, I don't think drugs are the problem. Crime is the problem. Cops are the problem. Money's the problem. But drugs are just drugs." -Jerry Garcia.

  • "Drugs are just drugs" like cops are just cops or food is just food in a world we don´t destroy, hopefully! PEACE

  • It's not?

  • It Isnt ???

  • bobby was right, "more of the same."

    two tickets to paradise.

  • THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING THIS!!!!

god bless the good ol grateful dead!!!

  • The news casters are such bigoted fascists! Its so funny how things were even back in 1985. "They all look the same." stated on public television. ha. We're still almost that bigoted.

  • Well they were covering a good story!

  • celticvengeance you are a moron

  • how does it feel to be a complete idiot

  • long live the GD!!!

  • R.I.P. Jerry....Grateful Dead will live forever...thanks for the great music and memories or whats left of them....Peace.

  • Social engineering indeed!

"where did all the hippies come from?"

Google "inside the LC" for a some great reports on the controlled opposition and the rise of the "counter culture"

  • The social engineering is unbeleiveable. The way THEY destroyed culture, family values and human morality was vital to the dumb down, apathetic retard nation of america today. Not the bands persay but the big money thinktank non~governmental institutionals that pushed the counter culture and directly influenced the imapct of drugs from veitnam and CIA run LSD. Garcia was a paid informant for the CIA given big bucks to push LSD. But the hell with it this country is shit now, good music though...

  • "The social engineering is unbeleiveable[sic]."

Yes, just listen to yourself, LOL!

"Garcia was a paid informant for the CIA given big bucks to push LSD."

If you are going to spout dribble like this, then please supply a source. Thank you

  • Ok now you want proof. Read "Acid Dreams by Martin Lee and Bruce Shlain. This is a best researched and most informative book on the Counter~Culture of the 60's. From the Black Panther party to yes the Greatfull dead it exposes all. Explains in great detail how CIA~FBI Infiltraited these groups. Then Using a Drug the DoD created (LSD) began to systamaticly control and seduce these groups with money and drugs.

  • "Then Using a Drug the DoD created (LSD) began to systamaticly control and seduce these groups with money and drugs."

Um, I believe Albert Hoffman, working for Sandoz corporation, "Created" LSD-25. I don't deny MKUltra, however I don't believe CIA~FBI "infitraited" anyone. I do find it interesting how the whole Laurel Canyon comes into play, but it's documented

  • That the Dead weren't "interested" in this crowd. See Dennis McNally's book, "A Long Strange Trip".

Based on your comment about the DoD Creating LSD, I think you've got it all wrong mate. Carry on though....

  • I Simply put my research into the way culture has been used to shape and control society. In Plato's republic he talks about the way to control a society is through Culture, Music, Theater, and more recently the News (newspaper, tv, radio) and that all of these should be maintained by the state or they will have unseen scenerios. So thats what they do they control our culture through sex, drugs, and rock and roll so to speak.

  • Great piece, thanks for the post!!!

  • I like how they go "so pigpen died, and still the band rolled with the punches; Mickey Hart signed on as teh 2nd drummer" ... everybody into the time machine!

  • manzalive! they were good.

  • im 13 and i love the grateful dead.

  • Hey I recognize that guy in the pink shirt speaking about the machine at the beginning!

He's a "rock and roll star";)

I didn't know those were the 20th shows! I saw the 85 and I immediatly thought of maybe my first tape, Greek 85! Smile!

Mickey: well the Dead's a dance band and I like to Dance! Right on.. but.. every show, he was.. oh yeah blowin my wig! Lol he never got to dance aww shoulda been there Mickey! Peas and love for you all you folk, my miraculous family! Prank it on 3..
