  • New York and California both deserve everything that is coming to them as they collapse from the weight of their own liberal socialist policies, I just hope that the rest of the country isn't expected to bailout these cities and states that can't seem to understand that they can't afford any more free rides, the gravy train has left the station YOUR BROKE! No bailouts stop whinning and deal with it.

  • How sad to think these *&^% people teacher our children this garbage. We should deport them to Venezuela, where they would be happier with Hugo Chavez

  • an unelected board installed by Bloomberg, fascism much?

  • The people at the table have such stank-faces on. Don't act surprised.

  • I love this!!! This is what has to be done to these fucker what you want to be done in school !!!!

  • Wow Michael Bloomberg purports to get the City Council to override voter mandated term limits so he can steal a third term, and initiates an UN-elected school board "panel?" These folks deserve to be embarrassed!

Nice Work OWS parents and teachers! You have raised the bar above "business as usual." School administrators should not be political appointees! Even a non-parent can see that!

  • OH D, IT WAS IN MY SCHOOL.....

  • This is what we have to do, You guys are brilliant!

  • Lobbyist Money - Who takes it, Who gives it?

Google "OpenSecrets Lobbying Top All Time Donors 1989-2012"

  • GO OBAMA!!!

  • Washington DC is a corporation... We are being run by a corpporation, called government, that makes Enron & Bernie Madoff look like a misdeamer. So what happens after the occupy..

  • That's not what democracy looks like. THIS IS ANARCHY! and it is BEAUTIFUL!

  • Need something done? Call on the 99%.

  • @Lukasd2009 OWS isn't the 99%, it isn't even 1% of the general population. It is Vigilantes/Thugs R US. And what happens if they decide they don't like you? Will they disrupt your meeting, impoverish your business, harass the restaurant you work at, shut down the museum you child is going to? All of which they have done, because what they have to say is more important than anything or anyone else. "But it's about the bailouts and Wall Street". Sure.

  • @nickedoso These people of OWS are the most educated, reasonable people in this country right now. Vigilantes? Thugs? This is a peaceful movement. There is a very strict policy of peaceful action. The incidents of violence have almost exclusively been perpetrated by the police where violence has occurred. Looking for vigilantes and thugs? Look there.

  • @nickedoso How do you think the politicians in office right now are treating us? They don't care whats good for the people, they care about whats good for them and their big, corrupt, corporation backers. We are under the rule of a bought D.C.

  • I have been inspired by this. I think that this is an interesting way to use the occupy movement to effect change. I think I might propose that we use our movement in my city the same way.

  • How can you vote out someone you didn't elect? These people were not elected from local communities, they were appointed by a lackey whose main focus is on paving the way for demise of democracy and the rise of the oligarchy. (Now that business moguls can easliy hide behind the mask of corporate America they are running the country and the global economy ((deliberately usurping democracies, re-regulating social and industrial policies)) in the interest of the 1 % instead of the 99 %).

  • @DoubtNoMore Did Bloomberg a man worth $20 Billion before he was Mayor give up his time because he decided he could use the same skillset to help the people of NYC or to become more Powerful? Certainly he could use these last 8 years to make another $20 Billion, but choose to use that time to lead NYC. His net worth has not increased since, so he is not using his influence for his own gain. Surely the Mayor-ship is a losing business proposition for him, so it has to be another reason, no?

  • Didn't they just shout themselves into being ignored?

  • Respect has to go both ways. The crowd wasn't giving any. Vote them out if you don't like the panel.

But when it's your turn sitting up there on the board don't be pissed when the next crowd comes along and doesn't give you any respect either.

  • Moonbats out for what again??? MONEY (support)

    Fing bums.

  • What a bunch if idiotic moonbats!! All these freaks want is mob rule. Hope the panel went and voted as they damn well pleased. Next time anybody interrupting should be physically ejected from the meeting. These idiots want to circumvent any due process and create chaos. That is no way to hold a meeting. This mob has effectively boxed out all decent parents from any opportunity to have their voice heard. Terrorists. We need the rule of law, not this filthy mob.

  • @jwhat01 due process? they're interrupting a NON-elected board that replaced the ELECTED board for schools. The rule of law would be a democratically elected group.

  • If they really wanted power to be returned to the people then why did the parents constantly back the Teachers when conservatives wanted to take the power away from the "Public" education system and return it to the peaple via charter schools and school vouchers? The system in place now is exactly the system you get when big government takes over. When you have a National Education system you don't really get any real input. You don't get a vote.

  • This was beautiful. Empowerment of the people these representatives are supposed to represent. It's a shame the chairmen childishly left instead of staying and doing their job.

  • Inspiring!

  • That's awesome, I love how the guy's just dumbstruck and helpless at 1:10

  • guys

  • fabulous-- I love you huys

  • what the media, politicians, banks and corporations dont understand is that they are no longer in charge anymore. The people are not looking for a new president, a new congress, a new law, or new bank restrictions. The people are looking to over throw the whole system to give the power back to the people. No longer will we be fed crumbs.

  • Now a loyalist Teabagger would have to say that those protestors should be shot for having the temerity to challenge a duly authorized official meeting like that.

Looks like a lot of Teabaggers posting here LOL

  • I trust the parents and the NYC public. I think they do not have many opportunities to be in the discussion and honestly this is probably only the beginning. We need to focus on education and not spend our money on so many wars. Officials are used to the status quo and the only reason why NYC is not filled with green plants on the tops and instead trying to build nuclear near poor peoples houses is because the people's voice is not being heard. Corporations destroyed to much already

  • This is what fascism looks like.

  • @OverlargeWombat People standing up to other people that are trying to control there lives?

  • Amazing.

  • Great... femenism came to the rescue. Thank you , for being complete assholes and not letting the other side make a statement.

  • @FlowTraceur Sorry, too many statements already.

  • @katwil89 Haha no they completely did NOT make asses out of themselves. Look at the big picture, don't be narrow minded. This is what needs to happen more, instead of listening to corruption. Corporations arent looking out for kids and their education, they're looking out for profit and how to brainwash another person like you, not to speak up. When these occupied cities let every single person there speak..Were letting them know they are not running the show any more..POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!!

  • We need more pro newsmag pieces- thanks for funding this. I was moved to tears by this informative, thoughtful and direct video and this is simple to produce. The direct Action provided the script anticipating PEP's reactionary retreat perfectly. Kudos to the DI planners and occupiers. You were dignified and plain spoken in your message. Your emotion in the Peoples Mike reading was palpable.

  • I really liked the suits PEP board members were wearing.

  • people mic : 1

    regular mic : 0

  • Why are any of you replying to NickeDoso go to his channel and see what his subscriptions are. He is some coward that won't post from his real account.

  • Beautiful

  • Power to the people! More comments means more feathers being ruffled. Beautiful. :)

  • Good for them.

  • F*** those suits.

  • 48 in a class?! Holy shit!

  • Beautiful. We're getting there.

  • Obama raised $750 million for his presidential Campaign and McCain raised $230 million. A Corporation is limited to $5000 per Candidate per Campaign, and the Records show that 3,000,000 people donated the $750,000,000 which is average $250 per person out of a population of 310,000,000 people. 403,000 of the 3,000,000 donated more than $200. Google "NY Times Study Obama Small Donors".

  • @jfan2000jfan By the way, I'm trying to point out that People are in the end more Powerful than Corporations, even a $10 donation is powerful considering 3,000,000 donated averaging only $250 and thats $750,000,000 and surprisingly only $1.8 million of Obama's funds were from a PAC (Political Action Committee), this is also typical of other Candidates. Google "open secrets 2008 election". There is a lot of Counter-intuitive stats there that reflect the actual power is in the people.

  • 16 people who like to pay too much student loans till they end up at death bed.

  • after watching this i can just say two things to you people:

    1. Never stop that please

    2. WOW! u guys are truely awesome and REAL!

    greetz from berlin

  • I cannot even describe how true all of this is.

  • idk man you sound naive to me. If these big businesses and banks were run by people who actually flood the american economy with money so it could circulate I would be arguing back about how bailouts are wonderful. It's not about bailouts or no bailouts to be frank. We gave them all this money and they invested in non domestic ventures or war. Because the same banks have vested intrest in the miliary industrial complex. Now citizens are stuck with THEIR debts.

  • Fabulous

  • love it

  • @latidoeterno Those parties have to take the first step and allow open forums capable of dynamically reaching consensus decisions. THIS is what Democracy looks like.

  • 4:20 - "...less state test and more Arts and Music classes..." I work with a group of Indians and they can't believe how behind the United States is in Math and Science. And how easy our State test are. Many say the 8th grade classes are what they learned in 5th grade. I also hear the same thing from Chinese and other Asians. And we spend 3 times as much per child than any of those countries, where is all the money going?

  • @jfan2000jfan administration/ rich schools because of standardized testing/ football fields.

  • check out: John Taylor Gatto - Weapons of Mass Instruction

educating people is not the best interests of any establishment.

  • "The capable children of potentially dissident families were kept down by being excluded from broad access to the best schools." de Mesquita et al. The Dictator's Handbook (p. 109). If you are poor and you protest against DOE, beware of retribution. Example: the recent destruction of PS 184 by DOE as revenge of parents' lawsuit against Chancellor Walcott. DOE is an authoritarian regime; its sole purpose is to generate salaries for its bureaucrats. Look at the smirk on Walcott's face.

  • wow, how did Bloomberg take control of schools and replace School Board with an unelected board, how does this happen in American cities?

  • @Yankhadenough Some here think every job in Government should be elected, that the Mayor can't hire his own people to run the city. Apparently they want to elect the Mayor then choose his team for him also.

  • @jfan2000jfan but education is something students and parents should have a say in, more so than just electing a mayor and hoping he does the right thing. when we elect an official there are too many issues to focus on and nobody can look at the specifics of a representatives policy until after they are elected. students/parents need to be able to act quickly to make appropriate changes in a school and it is impossible to do that when an appointed board has already been given an agenda.

  • @tehboyscout How much of it is corruption and how much of it is just compromise. At any work place when you work with several deptments, there is always some politics even in an apolitical sector business, and in any project its about "pleasing" all parties, like 5 way compromises, Business deals, negotiations and leverage. We don't know all the details nor do we have time to track all details thats why we elect people we trust, in hopes they hire people they trust and so on...never perfect.

  • @jfan2000jfan School Board is not 'his own people' to run the schools. Traditionally the School Board is an elected body by the citizens to determine who they want to run their schools for their children , until Bloomberg got hold of it. It is the epitome of arrogance that Bloomberg did this against the will of the people

  • Stats on Income not Wealth, IRS 2009 Income Tax Returns.

    o Top 1% - Filers=1,380,000 Income begin= $343,927, ShareIncome=16.9%, ShareOfTax=36.7%

    o Top 10% - Filers=13,789,000 Income begin= $112,124 ShareIncome=43.2%, ShareOfTax=70.5%

    o Top 50% - Filers=68,991,000 Income begin=$32,396 ShareIncome=86.5%, ShareOfTax=97.7%

    o Bottom 50% - Filers 68,991,000 ShareOfIncome=13.5%, ShareOfTax=2.3%

The way to read this is the Top 1% makes 16.9% of all the available AGI and Pay 36.7% of all income Taxes.

  • @jfan2000jfan AGI is a much much much bigger number than all income tax.

  • @tehboyscout Total AGI is a bigger number, AGI is Adjusted Gross Income which includes Captial gains. But the top 10% still makes 43.2% of all available Income but did pay 70.5% of all income Taxes collected. Total AGI 2009 was about 7.7 Trillion and total Income Tax collected was about 2.4 Trillion which is roughly 30%.

  • OUTSTANDING. One person and 1 microphone can NOT overpower 200 voices. Hey Dennis Walcott you were put there by Bloomberg NOT by the people of New York. You don't represent us. You can NOT stand real democracy. You were invited to the GA and you refuse to go. Get used to this type of events because we are coming. WE THE PEOPLE ARE NOT SILENCE NO MORE.

  • @fmartinez21

Oh please! You didn't even try to have conversation. This was all about creating a scene, not trying to have anyone listen to what you said. They all left because you wouldn't listen to them! What was left was just your crowd. That wasn't democracy, that was thuggery. "Get used to this type of events(sic) because we are coming" -threats of more thuggery. "We are right" so we can be rude, obnoxious, use a child. You have no idea how normal people look at this.

  • @nickedoso

This was all about creating a scene -I believe It's about making a point.

They all left because you wouldn't listen to them, - This happened because they have not been listening to the people.

That wasn't democracy, that was thuggery - See the Police attacks for thuggery !!!!!

Use a child ? The child has a vested interest in the education system.

  • You want change New York? GET RID OF BLOOMBERG! BLOOMBERG IS A FASCIST AND AN ENEMY OF LIBERTY AND OF THE CONSTITUTION! RECALL HIM NOW!!

  • Wow, look at that, they accomplished nothing other than shutting down a meeting . Their hollering was empty rhetoric as usual and did not solve one issue but caused one. Absolutely useless as is their general assemblies. They do not want to hear what someone has to say unless it matches their views , otherwise you are shut out. Direct democracy is nothing more than mob rule . OCCUPY a clue.

  • @ckovarovic oh your such an idiot

  • @surpss

Aww, did I hurt your feelings with the truth? It's happened to me personally so you cannot call it false and as for that video being of some significance ... tell me what they were asking for other than empty platitude.

  • @ckovarovic (sigh) its time for me to go in you. Let see.... First of all your previous comment had not one iota of truth. How can you say they didnt accomplish anything when before their please went unnoticed by the board. They couldn't even go on with the fallacy when the people voiced their opinion. As for you hurting my feelings suck my libertarian dick. Lol for you to leave a comment lik that in the first place its easy to see who was offended.

  • @surpss

Yes they accomplished a lot, the board left and ignored them completely..... I bet the world will change. Yes, I can see how you are right , I'm sure the whole education system will heed their every demand.... oh wait, the board left and didn't hear their demands, did they make any demands ? I didn't hear any, other than "Watch us interrupt your proceedings like a petulant child." but I'm sure the board marched right back in and listened to them individually.

  • @ckovarovic Don't be an idiot.... you really think the video was the end of this issue? how long do you think a few will be able to persist injustice when the majority are so outwardly against it? You're just mad at the video. THE TRUTH IS the board will have to listen to those people. And if not all, most of the demands initially voiced in this video will be met.

  • @surpss

Majority? You mean the majority in that meeting? because the occupy movements are not the majority, they are near 10% and that's generous. As for their demands , they didnt make demands at all, they accused the board of being non democratic and for making decisions and only asking for input as a matter of circumstance, then continued to ridicule them. They then told them that real discussion was an occupy general assembly which is bullshit in itself.

  • @ckovarovic I don't know if you pulled 10% out of your ass or what.... cuz i kno you dont mean the occupy movements are 10% of the the population when the unemployment rate is even higher than tht. Secondly, of cvourse they are the majority in that meeting! The board makes decisions that effect the kids who go to school and the teachers who show up! Now tell me who was in their finally making their voices heard after being ignored for so long.

  • @surpss

Yes the occupy movement is 10% being generous . Using the unemployment numbers as the occupy numbers is disingenuous as I know plenty that are unemployed and not a part of that mob. Most of the occupied cities are a hundred to 1000 people only. The OWS movement does not have as much support as they are making claim to. As for that meeting , the people in there solved nothing, they just proved that a true democracy is mob rule, thus our republic.

  • @ckovarovic Your right our republic is mob rule this why 400 people own more wealth than 150 million ppl combined in this country. C'mon man get the fuck outta here you just make excuses supporting the few who have and misappropriate their power.

  • @surpss

LOL Now we are bringing in corporate bailouts, great, I'll agree there. The government never should have bailed out any business, nor give billions to the failing green companies it has. Here's where the point matches.... you are fighting the wrong enemy. The enemy is the congress and the president and his administration. Disrupting capitalism to protest the government is ass backwards. Oh, and you are NO libertarian, direct democracy is the absence of liberty.

  • @ckovarovic Wrong, the government is a wholly owned subsidiary of big business. Multi-billion dollar media corporations control the narrative which hide the reality that the politicians are taking multi-million dollar bribes. They use their power to empower their big business friends, who in turn fund their re-election campaigns and use propaganda to support them. The problem in america lies in BOTH big business and our government, because they are one in the same.

  • @TheTechReactor

Take out the government bailouts and the businesses that were destined to fail wouldn't be able to continue on. As for who is putting money into government, you have more money going to government from unions than corporations. All you need to do is look up the campaign donations records to see that.

  • @ckovarovic Key words "TAke out the bailouts" ...... yes we can ignore more than 700 billion dollars. The amount of money these banks and business have has sky rocketed since tht "mistake" by obama. If you even wanna call it tht. You can call it him paying is corporate business interests for putting him in office.

  • @surpss

Take out the bailouts meant do not pay them and allow businesses to fail that are not floating on their own. You misinterpret what I was saying. No more bailouts ...ever. Sink or swim.

  • @ckovarovic WTF do you think the bailouts were?? They werent genuine attempt to save the U.S. economy!! The only thing that happened as a result of the bailouts was concentrating MORE wealth in the hands of the top 1 and 2%. DUH!!!

  • @surpss Thank you and keep spreading the message. Lets let these people know what this is about.

  • @surpss

So let them fail and stop putting the tax payer on the hook . Are you not reading what I'm typing?

  • @ckovarovic The trouble is that the majority of the taxpayers are not benefitting from the money they are paying to build their country - instead taxes are being used to make the 1% richer and more powerful. Taxes must be fairly distributed and fairly collected. Taxes should be used for social good and to build and maintain the infrastructures that keeps our country safe, modern and moving forward. Right now 99% of us pay our fair share while the 1% pay a pittance and reap the most benefits.

  • @DoubtNoMore

You couldn't be further from the truth. The top 5 % foots most of the tax bill, how you figure they pay less than everyone else just makes me not want to respond to you at all. Please go get your tax facts straight then come back and repost please. As for government spending our taxes ,they have 18 enumerated powers on which they are entitled to spend , anything beyond that is unconstitutional and should be stopped .

  • @ckovarovic Where do you get your facts? If you make over 100k a year you don't have to pay for social security. The rest of us do, and we probably won't even get to see any of it at this point. So how do you figure the top 5% pay less?

  • @ckovarovic Ok lemme ask you a question those big banks like AIG, Goldman sachs, J.P. Morgan....all the ones that got bailouts.....what do you think would have been the result if these financial instutions had failed? You ever knocked down dominoes with each other?

  • @surpss

They would have filed for bankruptcy under a restructure agreement as any other business does. You do not use the tax payer to prop up failed businesses nor do you regulate the banks with federal entities like Fanny and Freddie. Any time the government gets involved in private industry, it fails. Amtrak being a good case in point.

  • @surpss the 2008 bailouts where under the bush administration. js.

  • @tehboyscout coulda fooled me obama is bush plus some smooth talkin and darker skin. They both represent oppression.... the only thing is obama deserves an oscar or academy award.

  • @TheTechReactor Thank you.... you kno what the fuck ur talkin about

  • Thirdly i heard you the frst time "petulant child blah blah blah bullshyt and more bullshyt"

  • @surpss

I do like the end "Show me what democracy looks like, Being a petulant child is what democracy looks like."

  • @ckovarovic There was one demand, the 8 yr old girl wanted "...less state test and more Arts and Music classes..." and the Occupiers clapped in agreement. Looks to me like their only goal was to indulge in their self platitudes of one another, more so than actually providing any actionable solutions.

  • @jfan2000jfan Exactly! and to use the little child to push your agenda just roils the heck out of me!

  • @jfan2000jfan

While I do not begrudge the right to protest, I do begrudge the disruption of others right to assemble by these kinds of actions.

  • @jfan2000jfan well standardized state testing is a tool that is used to keep certain schools poor and others rich. Its a fact. look at any county and you will see it. how is a poor school going to do well on the state tests and get more funding if they don't have enough money to compete for good teachers and books?

  • To the nay-sayers, the quickest way to get over your cynicism, doubt, and fear is to go to an Occupy General Assembly. Most beautiful thing ever. Love and Solidarity from Oakland!

  • @MrAnconsheep "Go forth and revolt"--pretty clear statement of purpose there. And that is what the purpose is. If people don't get it, they haven't been watching.

  • These PEP meetings are just rubber-stamping sessions put on by corporate puppets and they need to be shut down and delegitimized.

  • This is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in my life.

  • @SkyFoxCode

You've had a sorry life apparently

  • @nickedoso Lololol Look at all the fucks i give at your stupid internet opinion. UMAD TROLLFAG?

  • @SkyFoxCode As I said, sorry life you have their. Good luck with that.

  • @nickedoso Still don't give a fuck. Have fun trolling since that's apparently all that you do with that account of yours. U still mad?

  • Hahaha, right on people. Right on. Will spread.

I hope these actions spread far and wide.

The panel member at the very beginning licking his lips creeped me out. They all looked like creepy pricks, except the black guy who just look confused.

  • Democracy is good, but let's be careful not to become a mob, blowing with the wind of public opinion

  • Anyone with concerns for the Occupy movement, or any of their actions can visit their own local movements, and discuss their ideas/concerns (in an intelligent manor) with other participants. But keep in mind that if you are not trying to listen to what people have to say, the odds are that people will not listen to what you have to say either.

  • So much smugness from the PEP.

  • It is not good option conversation like this.

  • The United States is a Democracy but nearly every aspect of our local, state, federal Government is run as a Constitutional Republic. That is, the people vote for a Representative to act on their behalf. Direct Democracy would be chaos and inefficient, one can imagine this scenario by imagining a Jury of 315,000,000 people deciding every minute detail of every issue... it would lead to a stand still immediately if you run Government as a Direct Democracy.

  • @jfan2000jfan Direct democracy doesn't have to be implemented for "every minute detail". Even if it was implemented for the most controversial of the laws/decisions that affect each one of us in a major way, such as should we go to war? Or should we bail out banks/corporations? (Switzerland for example, does this through referendums.) It would go a long way to make people feel like their voice actually matters and they're not merely pawns in a game where broken campaign promises rule the day.

  • @osdias Lets assume we have a "Legitimate War". Suppose we did it for this Legitimate War, WWI or WWII, War requires months and years of Planning... if we did this Publicly it would tip our hand to our enemies... meaning we would lose leverage on negotiations. You either Believe your Government is Righteous enough not to start Illegal Wars or your Government is Corrupt. And if your Government is Corrupt then in your scenario the Referendum votes would be Rigged anyway by the same corruption.

  • @osdias Also keep in mind why we are not Direct Democracy, our Union consist of Small States like Rhode Island and Big States like California. To not Drown out the voices of Rhode Island we have 2 branches of the Legislature, one that is proportional (The House) and one that is equal (The Senate). Remember that those are the terms of our Constution. Thus the reason why we are a Constitutional Republic, it is the Law of our Land... it is what our Country stands for, what we die for.

  • @osdias So for example in your Direct Democracy scenario, the Population Centers such as California, New York and Texas... those 3 states would end up "ruling" over the entire Union. They would end up sending most of the Federal Money and Support Projects in those States and the Rest of Us would be serving them. So that is also why we have a Constitutional Republic and not a Direct Democracy. In today's current system, we have both Proportional Representation and Equal Representation.

  • @jfan2000jfan

Unfortunately, these people don't understand even the basics of the Constitution, the First Amendment or what a representative government is. Frightening that some are "teachers", isn't it. Although, some like Justin Wedes, the main instigator aren't teachers although he claims to be. Why, Justin?

What does this show? Rude, obnoxious people carpetbagging a meeting, not trying to have a discussion, putting on a show for media, using a child. Despicable

  • @nickedoso So true its a damn shame. Before you're allowed to Graduate High School, you should be able to answer the question, "How does our Government safe guard against Majority and Mob Rule?", "What kind of Democracy is the United States and Why was it designed this way?". Maybe then Americans would value our Country and Government more given that we are the 3rd most Populous country in the world behind India and China, and we do not have a homogenous Culture.

  • @nickedoso wtf are you talkin about??? You sound fukkin dumb.... just shut up. These are ppl using free speech AFTER their voices were ignored by the board they finally made listen. Go watch some fox news and suck my libertarian dick asshole. Pfft..... I swear its ppl like you.

  • @surpss I don't suppose you see the irony in telling me just to shut up as you claim to support OWS using "free speech".

They didn't make the board listen. The board might have listened if they didn't act like asses. But since the purpose was the media show, this is what the union characters wanted.

  • @nickedoso Har har har tht was funny. But fuck the board! Their power comes from their title. If the people want a change....so it will be. And good thing there was a media show. Let the whole world see.

  • @surpss See that's the thing. You are stuck in hive mind mentality. What the ordinary public sees in looking at this is rude, obnoxious people trying to be bullies, and using a little child for propaganda.

  • @nickedoso "stuck" in democracy is preferable to the alternative. If you choose to accept a non-elected appointed board to take the place of a formerly elected school board,, what does that make you?

  • @jfan2000jfan How about mini-communities, no more States, no more huge government bureaucracy.

  • @joekkl I've lived in 3 states. NH has no sales tax, but very high Property Tax... meaning the Taxes go to the local Jurisdiction (City / County / Town) which is closer to the community and the use of those funds can be watched by the community more closely with less outside influence. In MA the sales Tax money goes to the State and the State redistributes that to its Cities, lots of corruption, as if I know the needs of a City that is 300 miles from my home town. PA has County income tax.

  • @joekkl The Federal Gov is necessary for Security first and foremost. If Japan invaded Hawaii, and we didn't have the Federal Gov, it would be a nightmare for each "state" to volunteer soldiers or money for the cause. Gov should be there strictly to Protect the Citizens from things we can not protect ourselves from. I can't inspect an Airplane, fight Japan... whether "security" extends to protection from Bank Investments is left to a Liberal or Conservative intepretation of our Constitution.

  • @joekkl The key here is "..things we can't do for ourselves..." which is a wide range of extremes. Some people don't want help from anybody and think they can do everything themselves, while other people need their hands held in life. Some blame themselves for every failure, some blame others for their every failure. Some believe they can overcome anything in life, others believe the system is rigged to keep them down. Thus the wide range of ideology, interpretation of equality, fairness...

  • @osdias Another War example and your Referendum idea. On Monday we have a Referendum given all the information we know at that Point in time. We Pass it. Monday night, new Critical Information is brought to light, do we have another Referendum Vote Tuesday? And if new information on Tuesday night...and so on and so forth. The situation and information, especially secret information is constantly in flux, another reason why we have Representatives.

  • @osdias My "Population Center" explanation also has another aspect. You may rebute it by saying NY, CA, TX still is way less than all the other states combined, so how would they rule over us, if all the other states "join up". Suppose NY, CA, TX has 10 people each, and 10 other states has 4 people each. You would figure the 30 can not over take the 40, but its harder for 10 states with different cultures and backgrounds to agree, fracturing their votes giving power to the bigger states....

  • @osdias ...bigger states. For example Texans can rally Texans, Californians... But how would a Rhode Islander join up with a Floridian and 10 other states to defeat bigger states. So the votes of smaller states are "fractured" even if combined they are more than the bigger states. Without the Electoral College, and or the 2 Branches of Legislatures.. it is very real that we would be Ruled by the Population Centers. Direct Democracy would also cause us to be ruled by the Bigger States.

  • @osdias A real life analogy to this is Sports Franchises in Large Markets like New York and Boston, Los Angeles. They win all the Championships because they can garner all the money. Thus they really minimize the influence of fans in other cities. To combat this, Big Teams are artificially handicapped by Revenue Sharing to minimize their powers. Just an example. But now you can see why we have the Structure that we do within the Legislature and also the way we elect a President.

  • @osdias A real observable Consequence of the Power of Bigger States being minimized is that Legislation passes more easily in The House (proportional representation) than it does in The Senate (equal representation). Needless to say, our Founding Fathers were really really really smart, vision..prescient foresight for that matter. Our system is terrible, except that its still the best mankind has come up with in history.

  • Fabulous-- you rock Occupy

  • Good lawd, if this started happening across the country!!!! WHOOT!

  • Excellent and perfect!

  • WOW! This should be the mood of ALL the citizens of AMERICA. Unfortunately they won't listen and rally. :-( Too busy watching their TV and being controlled by propaganda.

Thank you for exercising your rights and speaking out against the wrong. God bless you all.

  • my classes had 50-60 students, very hot there! lol

  • badass

  • I like that the Occupy movement is getting more involved in local politics like this. Granted, I don't know anything about New York City schools, but I was kind of ambivalent watching this. They didn't really let the school panel respond, which is rude and counterproductive to dialogue. It's like Bill O'Rielly shouting down guests and then calling people weak for not coming on his show. Then again, maybe the 99% needs that.

  • @TommyD2343 I would be impossible to have a dialogue with Occupy, I imagine that the 50+ Occupy members agree that the School Panel should be more Open, however if the 50+ Occupy members where to discuss individual school board issues, they would have 50+ opinions and no representative. The Irony here is that they would ahve to elect a Representative to Lobby for their diverse views, which they reject because they believe in Direct Person to Person Democracy and not a Representative Democra....

  • @TommyD2343 ...and not a Representative Democracy. What Occupy refuses to acknowledge here is that School Board meetings are regular and open and always in a Town Hall setting where citizens ask direct questions that are answered. That they never attended in the past, does not mean it never existed. So what was their Goal to make a scene? Why don't they just commit to attending School Board meeting individually for as long as they live? That would be real involvement and discussion....

  • @TommyD2343 ...instead of what they are doing in this video. So many people are starting to question their motives... whether this is just a game to them... Protesting to Protest or are they ever going to do something actionable. The fact that they are there shows that there is a Forum provided to the people, whether Occupy can dedicate themselves to solutions and constant involvement is what most people now start to question. Or whether the only Agenda they have is to Make a Scene.

  • @jfan2000jfan it's a mix of everything.. nothing's perfect. there's all kinds of views and all kinds of approaches. i don't think people are gonna do this ALL the time. just waking up the board, is all. just the fact alone that people are starting to come together and speak out is such a big step.. then maybe we'll start moving into more organized, effective, and mutually respectful communication with the parties involved in making change.

  • @latidoeterno Yeah, you're right in that Regard. Whether its the school principal or Senator, people in Public Office forget that they are there to serve the people. The arrogance of the public officials. But there is also "arrogance" on the part of this group, that they represent the "majority" interest of the people also. The truth is that our Public Officials have to balance 1000's of contradicting and conflicting views in their policies. As they say, Democracy is sloppy....

  • @latidoeterno ... Democracy is sloppy, but our Constitutional Republic system seems to be the best humankind has come up with thus far. We assume Corruption, but is it just the mixed soup of Compromise from all these competing interest? As I get older and even Trivial decisions at work, Collaboration with competing interest is not easy, also in most cases the Majority wants both things even if they contradict each other. Even if you are working with a group of only 20 people on projects...

  • @jfan2000jfan

Their purpose is to disrupt and destabilize. They have done this not only to the DoE but to museums and to restaurants. Thugs for unions, in this case teachers. In their organizers own words, Lisa Fithian: we're here to destabilize; Paula Grin "Grim womyn": "we've started a class war and we better finish it" In some places, they are already calling for general strikes. They want to turn us into another Spain or Greece, not suprising since many instigated there as well.
