I pitch my 20' tipi alone. I use leverage advantage always. You really do not. E.g. when you lifted the lift pole with the outer skin, the rope should have gone over the top and loose some productivity in friction but gained a huge leverage advantage.
Yes, back in the olden days open fires were built in pits at the back center of the tipi. It was used for heating and cooking. Today people still sometimes put open fires in but you can also use wood burning stoves.

With proper anchoring to the ground (staking) this tipi can withstand very high wind speeds. Thanks for watching!
