Regarding bats, we must be aware that it is modern science that has a different classification system than ancient times. To the ancients, creatures such as a bat were considered birds since they categorized all flying animals as birds. It's actually pillars of the earth, not sky. It probably means mountains but would have to look at the Hebrew word for pillars.

I'm not Catholic, and I haven't been able to find the verbiage in the Liturgies mentioned. Has anyone been able to verify the claims? If so, can you provide the source -- a credible impartial link is preferred, but a bibliographical reference will also do.
