  • some carb cleeners have oil in them!!!

  • the best thing is you can do to polish it with sand paper dont make it oily otherwise your brakes will not work properly................

  • I'd advise wearing rubber gloves if you're going to hold onto the rotor while you spray it with brake or carb cleaner.

  • He did somethings wrong. Didn't clean the hub and you aren't supposed to use brake or carb cleaner on rotors. Leaves a thin film that dries and can cause squeekin. Soap and water is the best to clean rotors.

  • can you just wipe the oil off with a dry rag and just let any of the excess oil get rubbed off over time from the brake pads?

  • can you used alcohol? also ... is it really necessary to wipe of some break fluid that got all over teh place as I took the caliper piston out? Thank You!

  • brakleen and carb cleaner might have similar components, but they handle grime very differently. Carb cleaner will dissolve varnish no problem, brakleen won't. Brakleen is far superior at dissolving grease-based grime, but it won't dissolve varnish deposits. It's not very accurate to say they're the same. (and Brakleen™, aside from it's different cleaning abilitites than carb cleaner, has a WAY more powerful spray).

  • Excellent, video good info on cleaning rotors prior to installation. Well done!

  • thanks for explaining this, i was wondering why my mechanic was whiping flamable things to my new rotors. I thot my car might fire up when im driving but it dries.. thanks.. (first time i actually liked expert village... cuz this was actually reasonable)

  • You have rather good vocabulary for a mechanic - "is this a disk break I see before me?!" hehe

  • before mount the rim, clean the rotor.

  • any cars with self repairing brakes?

  • I love watching car repair videos and reading the comment section because EVERYBODY's a fuckin professional.

  • Seriously, wear some gloves!!!! I have mechanic friends in their early 30 and they have nerve damage in their hands because they were young and stupid and never wore gloves when they were younger!

  • @kvitka075 I just spent 4 hours in my garage, well-ventilated, assembling a new motor, and I was using non-chlorinated brakleen to clean all of the protectant off of the rods, pistons, cylinders and crank journals. I wear nitrile gloves and change them often, but my hands were still itchy by the end. Since I stopped, I have spent the last 4 hours feeling like I have a bad hangover. From now on, I'll be double-gloving and using an organic respirator when I use brakleen or carb cleaner. Ugh...

  • What about cleaning the hub surface and using some CRC so it doesnt stick when trying to remove it next time.

  • Petrol is just as good.

  • Carb clean does leave a residue and so does brake clean. Clean first with brake clean and then I was it with soap and water. And clean the hub real good

  • Rather volatile? I guess I should put out my smoke.

  • u look like van dam mate

  • This comment goes out to anyone who thinks car and brake cleaner are not the same I have been in parts for 3 yrs now as well as a mechanic carb cleaner and brake cleaner are the same product for the most part ACETONE (basically a finger nail polish remover) Toluene (used in paint thiner) Methanol (wood alcohol used in some racing fuels) the reason for not using carb cleaner is become some have a special upper cylinder lubricant that protects engine parts during cleaning.

  • how much does a new rotor cost? and what is the cause of the rusty screech my brake is making? kind of sounds like nails on a chalk board when I drive and then when i brake it stops for a little.

  • if the noise only happens when you brake - it is a warning sound which your brake pads are designed to make when they drop below the minimum recommended depth - it is to tell you that you need to replace your pads. If it is happening whilst driving (but not when braking), it could be something more serious such as a wheel bearing that needs to be replaced (although this is more of a grinding sound than high pitches squealing)

  • @grantos3000 and if you've just replaced your pads, then why does it screech still when i brake

  • @Jbaker8390 the shims haven't been greased

  • @otsenrexxx you need brake pads what is happening is the feelers rub the rotor when pressure is applied the noise and vibration stops i would also recommend resurfacing the rotor oreilly auto parts as well as some machine shop can do this for you as long as the rotor meets proper specs for machining

  • pepsi or Coca cola?? LOL.. DIet coke??

  • HOW THE HELL DO I GET RID OF THE STUPID TEXT ALL ACROSS THE VIDEO?!?!?!

  • @lemmewatchmahvideo - click on the red closed caption button at the bottom of the video

  • use some Pepsi or Coca .

  • I was under the impression that brake and carby cleaner were not the same. Carby cleaner is silica based and will leave residue. Brake cleaner is acetone based and wont. Can anyone else comment on this?

  • Great instructions and tips, but anyone viewing this should know to wear gloves and spray away from your body. No need to inhale toxic brake cleaner mist or absorb chemicals through your skin...

  • ok my brake discs kinda old

is it okay to clean them the same way?????

  • yep carb cleaner works, i tried it lol,

  • No gloves dude..brake cleaner is one of the most toxic things you can buy in a spray can.

  • the "oil" is called Cosmoline

it is a rust inhibitor, you should use, brake cleaner to remove it

  • if it works ,it works i guess, i this he works for autozone ,

  • "that spray is rather volatile, and will dry pretty quick".....right into the air you're breathing, lol.

  • a lot of mechanics use brake clean because its fast and easy, but the "RIGHT WAY" (you can ask any Auto Shop teacher) to clean a rotor (especialy after its machined) is plain old sopa and water. He's right brake clean is volitile and dries fast and leaves behind some contaminants.

  • @gemydaloot soap and water and oil do not mix at all... lol

  • Get rid of the Text and this would be a good video!

  • @dglewis12

    turn off the captions..-_-

  • This gentleman was very thorough. He was very professional. For all you who are on here being a critic. Make your own video and see how well you do. We will promise to give you some honest feedback. :-)

  • It would be a much better demonstration if the demonstrator was waring some nitrate or other cleaner proof gloves to keep the cleaner off his hands, and had cleaned the axle and caliper first.

  • I'm sorry brake parts cleaner and carb cleaner Are NOT the same.... lol similar but completely different

  • That's what i'm thinking, lol. Why would they make 2 of the same sprays with different names!? lol

  • @derekandkeyasha01 because they can put a different name on the can and charge you a higher price because it's A SPECIALTY ITEM im a parts professional i know how to screw people ha

  • @jaredta1a same ingrediants he said dick

  • @raikkonen85 And I said he is wrong carburetor cleaner is not recommended, brake cleaners chemicals are less harsh are we splitting hairs yes, reason to call me a Dick, no

  • hahah what he said. changing brakes is pretty simple.

Interested in Drilled & Slotted Rotors or Performance Brake Pads search Rotorworks!

  • Everyone always picks at things on the videos......... IF YOU LOT ARE SO GOOD THEN WHY DONT YOU MAKE YOUR OWN VIDEO SHOWING US THE CORRECT WAY TO DO IT ?????

    FUCKING JEALOUS, THATS WHY !!!

  • use simple green. or water and soap.....

  • Hack! A shop should have a parts washer so you stop all that carcinogen exposure. For the average Joe, just put the damn thing on some cardboard and wear latex gloves. And carburetor cleaner and brake cleaner are not exactly the same, both chlorinated solvents, though.

  • uSE PLASTIC GLOOVES FOR THAT TASK AND DONT INHALATE THE SPAY.

  • inhalate? is that like inhaling?

  • Have you notice that everything causes cancer?? so minds as well just enjoy what your doing the way you wanna do it!

  • Yeah man, its stupud. WTF do they keep making this shit for if it all causes cancer. We eat, smoke, drink, touch, work on, drive, make, dispatch, breath, etc etc shit that makes or causes cancer. Us Humans just set ourselves up lol

  • how much does a mask and rubber gloves cost?i bet not as much as cancer treatments

  • carb and brake clean are not the same lol. Carb will eat everything, brake cleaner wont. Id much rather have brake cleaner sprayed on my skin than carb cleaner.

  • carb cleaner on brake parts?!?!?!

    thats definitely a first... -_-

  • Now i know how to wash my dinner plate and put it back in the hutch.

  • why the fuck is this guy letting carbie cleaner come in contact with his skin? fuckin stuff will burn your skin off

  • Same reason that he leaves motor oil on his hands like it was Nivea: he could care less.

  • dude motor oil is nowhere near as corrosive as carbie cleaner if at all

  • @izeman458 Don't think that's oil dude.. probably brake dust

  • give you cancer too.

  • if you soak your hand in carb clean it will fuck it up i use carb cleaner to get grease off my hands

  • My driver side rotor is warped. Need to replace it. Maybe I can do it myself now.

How do I know which kind of rotor to buy?

  • I never like to see an engineered rotor disc put on to a rusty unclean drive flanged! That also can cause run-out and feed back through the steering wheel and foot brake pedal!

  • @bigstiggerNo1 oh no! what will we do then?!?!? oh no!!!!

shut the fuck up, crybaby bitch

  • @brandiandpaul If the excessive runnout cause the brake pedal to undulate, that motion causes stress and anger. The action of the brake pads moving back and fouth with wear the pad carrier suface quickers. The braking surface will not have full contact especially at higher speeds when you need more braking effort. So what will happen is the car will be more dangerous and cause stress! You're obviously a retard if you don't know that and think I was crying!

  • My brakes get angry at me.
