  • WOW 20 Years on !!! The "Birthday" match. Thanks for the upload. Interesting to see this from French TV. It was really tough for Aaron playing when the crowd was 99 percent for Jimmy for almost 5 hours. I think this was the same tournament where Aaron took out Agassi in the first Rd. Anyone here got footage of that match ?

  • Jimmy Connors is one the most brillants and unique players in HISTORY. This guy was putting his life on the line on every single point of every single match.

He had the unique gift of connecting with any crowd in the world .

The guy who more tournaments than anybody else in the history of the sports.

He will always be the only guy to have won The US Open on three different surfaces.

Jimbo is a tennis ICON, he made me a tennis fan forever and when he left, nobody could fill it at all.

  • connors > sampras > federer

  • @andunusblick AMEN AMEN AMEN

  • Saw Krickstein last night in Delray Beach.

  • connor carried on like a dickhead , im positive he wasnt all there in the head

  • Two gorgeours players very appreciated in France too !! ( especially " JIMBO" ).

NB : Yannick Noah comments in French with a journalist called Pierre Sled.

HAUNTING TIE BREAK !!! Thank u.

  • Even though Connors was such a first class jerk, insincere, manipulator....what a great day for tennis. Despite Connor's selfishness, he did indeed give the crowd what they paid for, almost every time. And Krickstein, is a first class competitor AND gentleman. His remarks after the match (and most people would have been more than annoyed by Connors antics) were nothing but absolute dignity and class.

  • Maybe not the greatest male tennis player ever -- but certainly the most entertaining and openly passionate.

  • James Scott Connors is a frickin Sport ICON, what he did , who else did it in tennis ?

Not only was he a great player but most important he was a great entertainer and showman.

He claimed he was playing for the crowd, he was giving anything just to entertain us and living a special moment.

This guy made me a tennis and sport fan forever, he is that damn good.

Each time Connors was on the court, you know something unique and special was going on the court.

    Connors >>> nowadays players

  • They dont make'em like Connors anyore.

  • Ah yes.......the golden age of sports when players actually loved the game, played with heart and determination and gave the fans their money's worth. Jimmy Connors was the epitome of heart and determination. Not the most talented.......but the most gritty. Enjoyed him the most.

  • arreterd e comparer les générations c'est ridicule, aujourd'hui le tennis est plus rapide, les athlète évoluent en fonction des années.

Quand je pens e au abruti qui dise que federer a 28 ans est fini, fedexa encore 5 belle années devant lui

  • This was a stunning match by Connors, and also he had one in 1st round too against Patrick MacEnroe. It was one of the most sensational, dramatic tournaments in all of sport, with Connnors at 39 making the semi-finals. And did British TV show even a second of it, or the slightest highlight? NO. And we complain why we are shit tennis nation. (British person here, tennis lover)

  • @jegspillerpiano This is always the match that gets shown during rain delays, and with what Jimmy did on his 39th birthday in this match, is certainly memorable, but how come no one mentions more the 1st Round match against Patrick? I'd love to see some of that match during a rain delay, or on ESPN Classic(they ran a U.S. Open tribute this week). No one ever shows that one. Surely, CBS or USA has to have that match on tape somewhere.

  • genious!

  • i loved conners other all time sports greats are bird ,anthony sanders, rose

  • Connors is sooo old school, he uses the Continental Grip. Almost no top spin. All the Pros today use the Western Grip for heavy heavy top spin.

  • Yeah they use the western grip for heavy predictable short falling topsin which connors or any other past champion would destroy.

  • I miss Old School Serve & Volley, Chip & Charge.

  • Boy, you said it. For my money, the'80s and early '90s were the glory, and fun years for both, women's and men's tennis.

  • i cant believe this has move views than mine.i put up almost the entire match and in way better quality too.

  • stinks for u

  • well if people would rather watch this inferior version be my guest.

  • Dude, do you really need so bitchy? Seriously, it's just youtube.

  • hahahaha

  • the rating is for connors

  • If there was a sportsman who personified the "never give up" virtue, it has got to be Jimmy Connors.

  • i met that guy at the michigan court one all ages thing, with todd warner and mal washington

  • dont you mean todd martin not todd warner.

  • yeah my bad, w/e

  • Epic match

  • one 4 the ages and aged i.e. connors@39yrs.

  • yes! -- i think he turned 40 that day too. which made it more epic.
