  • So beautiful and so graceful and classy. People don't speak like that anymore.

  • that is a person who has class

  • I love Julie Andrews a living legend you made my childhood complete xxx

  • Is that Raquel Welch behind Dick Van Dyke?

  • she's just divine!

  • Julie Andrews... the best there was, there is and there will always be!

  • If you watch videos like this one you can tell how much her vocie has beed changed. Gosh she is still so great. She didnt change over the years she is still classie, beautiful and all around wonderfull!

  • Classiest actress ever. I've yet to meet one person who doesn't like this woman.

  • Julie, Sempre!!!

    Alex from Brazil

  • what a wonderful & classy woman !

  • Back when speeches were simple yet sincere. Love Julie Andrews ♥

  • I absolutely love Julie Andrews!

  • simply gorgeous!!

  • Julie did deserve the Oscar for this but I thought she also deserved two other's for The Sound Of Music and Victor/Victoria ...equally amazing performances !! xo

  • @PeaceFan1 particularly for that movie where she plays a parapeligic violinist.

  • Beautiful.

  • WOW! WOW WOW! She looking fuking hot here. Where are the class dames these days!

  • OMG SHE'S MAGICAL AND FLAWLESS AAAAH i love her, ok?:')))<3

  • Truly a wonderful actress and has proved herself worthy on the acting spectrum by doing a variety of shows: dramas, comedies, musicals, etc. She is a consumate actress who will always be welcome in this country, as her wholesome and gracious nature towards life and others in general will never be overlooked. Such a sweet person, and so very, very talented.

  • its great to see that she's aged really well, some woman in hollywood during her time does not even look half as great as she does today.

  • She's so beautiful, and still is.

  • class act.

  • Not really an actress as time has proven, but she did have the voice and other

special qualities. I grew up thinking she was the best....I loved this movie, but

as time goes by I see that musicals are just a few words mixed in with more

songs...so really not true acting. She was also a nice person in the early years.

From what I learned later in the 80's she was like everyone else, sometimes nice but lots of nasty too.

  • If you believe acting is limited to drama then you don't know a thing about acting. And if you believe musicals don't require as much artistry as other forms of entertainment, then you don't know anything about entertainment. I've met her three times since the late 80s and she has always been gracious, funny, engaging and deeply appreciative of her audience. And, is she not, in any case, permitted to be "like everyone else"? Or must she only be what you perceive her to be?

  • @musictodiefor I take it you've never seen 'Duet For One.' If that's not amazing acting, I don't know what is. She has staying power and class and a great sense of self. This great actress is still acting at 75 and has a new movie coming out soon. Check your facts.

  • So nice to see the fine Sidney and the equally fine Julie together here on stage :)

  • Ok, she deserved, Julie was stunning in Mary Poppins, but please, where's Audrey's nomination?? (I know she wouldn't win, she was dubbed :-D But she deserved her nomination)

  • @SKSelphie I don't think that an actress who does not sing her own solos deserves a nomination. Julie Andrews not only acted, but sang the parts just like she did Audrey's part on broadway. This really is poetic justice because the producers did not think Julie Andrews would be a box office draw for My Fair Lady.

  • @AHProctor Yeah, I agree. I only said that because I'm a huge fan of Audrey. And besides the musical parts in my fair lady, her performance was great :) But that was Julie's years, I love her as well.

  • She totally deserved it

  • she's so gorgeous

  • DIVINA,,LA AMO,,,JULIE ANDREWS ES FENOMENAL.

  • not was she is and always will be beautiful

  • She was beautiful.

  • Ohh! Sidney Poitier, the best!

  • she's STUNNING. i see her eyes sparkle LITERALLY like diamonds. they're so bright and pure, and she's got the best of personalities!

  • One of the strangest stories I've ever heard is that Julie almost didn't get the role of Maria because the studio didn't think she was photogenic enough! What!!!!!!! She was absolutely beautiful!

Anyway, they looked at the rushes of Mary Poppins (cos it hadn't been released then) and realised she WAS photogenic enough!

  • "Mary Poppins" is a wonderful film and Julie Andrews is delightful in the title role. But, winning an Oscar? Sentiment must have been a big infulence on the voters that year.

  • @jckfmsincty Mary Poppins is not a delight. Though the decades she's developed a reputation of being a sweet and loving nanny, but. In fact, Mary Poppins is for the most part bitchy, strict, a bit of a killjoy. But she has her tender moments, and that's what makes her character fascinating. Julie certainly gave her depth. My fave moment is when the kids and parents run out singing "Go Fly a Kite" and you catch a glimpse of Mary's face in the window . It's a loving sadness captured in 3 seconds.

  • YAY! Julie :)

  • Ithink that she was amazing in that movie but the actress who reaaly deserved the oscar was Sophia Loren for her stunning performance in "Marriage italian style"

  • She should have won for The Sound of Music too...but the Academy doesn't always vote the way they should, do they?...

  • year and years after that, i have tears in my eyes. gosh, i love her.

  • hahaha van dyke's face he totally like, "Haha, OMG, I know her!! I know her! I know her! YAY!!!!"

  • I LOVE HER. LOVE. HER.

  • She must have felt supercalifragilisticexpialidocious when this happened.

  • @MediaLover194 say that again!

  • @robinho1979

    I can say it backwards:

    Which is docious-ali-expi-istic-fragi-cali-rupus

  • OMFG Listen to that applause :O

    Good for her!

  • Audrey Hepburn was soooo upset she didn't get best actress for My Fair Lady. But you know, MFL won best film and Julie won best actress, so it all goes together :)

  • she was soo beautiful and she still is. love her!

  • I saw all five performances and I think Julie was indeed the best. Many may disagree but she was the best IMO. Her performance may not have breakdowns but it's very deep, much deeper than many consider it to be.

  • A practically perfect in every way epic win!

  • Back then: that's when Hollywood really knew how to dress up for the Academy Awards, movie premiers, and so forth. Nowadays they look like slobs. The suits that the actors wear today to these awards are definitely not tuxedos. They are just ordinary daytime business suits. And the actresses today are nothing but plain Janes.

  • If they had only known then what she would become :)

  • a radiant beauty.

  • WE'RE KNOWN FOR OUR HOSPITALITY?! REALLY?! I knew we were known for some things, but I didn't know hospitality was one of them...anyway, this woman is just...she's just...what can I say besides may God bless this incredible...this amazing...oh, I can't even speak or type. You rock Julie Andrews!!!

  • @genungapearl I think she confused America with Canada...

  • @emmadilemmasings Well, now I'm just disappointed...

  • @genungapearl

Hehe... I'm Canadian. You're always welcome here, Julie.

Oh, and we spell things the british way too!

  • LOL since when is America known for their hospitality! LOL :)

Love the most gorgeously classy woman in the world

  • She is SO pretty!

  • Back when the Oscars actually meant something instead of being a catty fight for attention amongst vain celebrities arguing over 'who wore it best'! Julie Andrews has class and elegance like no other.

  • The great, talented and forever beautiful Julie Andrews simply outshines any other star, looking absolutely dazzling, gorgeous and radiant upon receiving a much deserved Oscar for her iconic performance in Mary Poppins. Time has shown that an Oscar is something that definitely goes with Julie!

  • That's loveliness...

  • "I know you Americans are famous for your hospitality, but this is really ridiculous!"

She is the classiest, most graceful person I have ever laid eyes on. There are really no words to describe how amazing she is.

  • @icheer4les09 she's supercalifragilisticexpiialidocious! XD

  • THE most beautiful speaking voice....and her singing......WOW

  • I have never seen this vid before and when I saw Sidney Poitier I cheered before he could announce Julie! Two of my favorite actors of all time on stage together...fantastic...

  • SHE'S SO PRETTY AND SHE'S SO HUMBLE!! She really is excited and wasn't expecting it at all, OMG!!

  • Such a beautiful, graceful, elegant and humble person. An incredible actress and lovely woman whom I absolutely idolised as a kid, and still idolise now. <3

  • I love Julie- but.....she deserved the Oscar the next year for Sound of Music- this one was all about losing out on the part in My Fair Lady...and it was a weak year- making Audrey's omission even more obvious- Audrey said she took it because Julie wasn't even their 3 or 4th choice- and she didn't want someone else before her or Julie

  • she's so beautiful!

  • Sidney Poitier's amazing! I loved him in the movie....umm "Sir" something :(....what a great actor :) and of course Julia Andrews is a Legend :)

  • @cassyhungerson to sir with love?

  • @loveliferocks

    Yah! That's the one =)

  • she should of got it for SOM aswell

  • Her first movie and she wins the oscar...amazing!!

  • It's a shame that Sidney Poitier couldn't kiss Julie Andrews on the cheek upon accepting her award because of the racial prejudice that still existed in our country at the time.

  • @outinsider i BELIEVE HE WAS TOLD NOT TO ...VERY EMPHATICALLY. and it must have been quite emphaticaly to stop such a pioneer as Mr.Potier.

  • @etrax2000

He probably didn't want to overpower the controversy of his win I guess.

  • @outinsider The year before he presented the award to Anne Bancroft- she kissed him- there probably was a negative reaction to that- he may have been told not to- or Julie chose not to- she never got close enough for him to try.

  • @demc67

I think Julie would have accepted the kiss, but the Academy might not have wanted the same thing out of public concern. It doesn't justify it.

  • I love you, Julie Andrews!

  • Disney films were so wholesome and uplifting before that vile Eisner took over.

  • Man, could she be any more amazing and beautiful? I don't know if I should be jealous of her or be in love with her XD

  • Awwww that's sooo cute!!!!! She looks sooo pretty as usual!! :) she totally deserved that award!!!! :) :)

  • Yes, she definitely deserved that! I do kind of wish she'd got it for Sound of Music, that being one of the most beautiful films of all time, but oh well. Chris Plummer should've got one for that too - he was brilliant as well. No actress and singer can beat Julie!

  • Fantastic!! Julie is simply the best...! Wonderful! : )

  • I'd also like to know if she is the only actress who had won an oscar for a fantasy film.At last at the leading actrees recipient.

  • @gomamon100 I don't know about fantasy, but she is the only actress to win the oscar for best actress of a Disney movie

  • She looks so beautiful! As always of course.

  • she's so adorable :)

  • @HogwartsCastle still very much beautiful. ^_^

  • @HogwartsCastle WAS?!

  • aww, she's so pretty

  • SO cute!

  • Although I thought she deserved an Oscar more for Sound of Music than Mary Poppins, I'm just glad she received an Academy Award!

  • i love julie andrews!!! :) she was my favourite actress growing up! when i was a child mostly coz she has the same name as me, but now i know how amazing she really is. love her!

  • She is so gracious.

  • ah, i love her speach. she's so cool. i hope one day to meet her, that'd be so awesomely sweet!

  • is it me or did dick van dyke try to kiss her on the lips. . . Anyway i think she deserved it she is my #1 OR #2 FAvorite actress! MaRy PoPPiNS ANd THe sound of Music is definitley in my top 5! • I love her face <3 I love her accent so muuuuch ahah

  • I love Marry Poppins..... she deserved It.

  • The producers of Sound of Music were probably at that time thinking - yesss!!! we have a star and she´s in our movie - its going to be a hit.

  • Julie Andrews as Mary Poppins was my first crush ever (I was five years old). And she's still stunningly beautiful!

  • I'm glad she won, Julie was absolutly amazing in Mary Poppins, it's my favroite movie thats she's in

  • Go Julie Andrews you are my favourite actress for ever more

You always brighten my day and keep the smile on my face

  • A class act

  • so prettty and talented great voice

  • She is so amazing!! I love her so much. She deserved it!

  • Classy, well spoken and funny.

  • she's such an amazing woman!

  • omg!! she is soo beautiful:)

    ily,, julie

  • I fully agree with you, she deserved it. Also in my opinion she deserved Oscar for SOM but assume 2Y in a row wasnt possible

  • Tom Hanks did a 2 year repeat for Philadelphia in 93 and Forest Gump in 94. And yes, I agree whole heartedly w/ Julie Andrews should've won for SOM

  • Again I agree, but who know what was going on behind "the scene" back then

  • @Kristian2006 also, Katharine Hepburn won two years in a row a short time later for GUESS WHO'S COMING TO DINNER (1967) and THE LION IN WINTER (1968), and in the '30s Luise Rainer won for THE GREAT ZIEGFELD (1936) and THE GOOD EARTH (1937) and Spencer Tracy won for CAPTAINS COURAGEOUS (1937) and BOYS TOWN (1938) so it was not unprecedented. I agree she was wonderful in TSOM. I wish she'd won, too.

  • @chakram9999 Yeah, two in a row has only been done twice - Luise Rainer and Katharine Hepburn. Glad she got it for Poppins though!

  • @chakram9999

    I´m absolutely agree with you.

    She deserved it.

And for Sound Of Music too.

The only thing I´ m not agree is 2 years in a row was impossible.

    It is possible.

Tom Hanks won the Oscar for Best Actor thanks to Philadelphia in 1993, and in 1994 he won it again for Forrest Gump

  • My God,she is so breath taking!

  • OMG!!! Thank you so much for posting this!!! She DEFINITELY deserved that award!!!!

  • Aw, poor dear was so shocked. Bless her.

  • So wonderful. Thank you for posting it.

  • Fully deserved!!!The joy on Dick Van Dike's face!And his sincere applause!Great to see!!!Thanks!
