Cannot confirm or deny this event, however I know they drank together in Paris and, knowing their drinking habits, I'm sure this was a real possibility. I can imagine Hemingway carrying Joyce in one hand and a bottle of Ch`ateauneuf du Pape in the other.... :-)
@TheChap36 Hemingway mentions having carried Joyce home in his autobiographical novel "A Moveable Feast" which is about his time in Paris. Hemingway had been wanting to meet Joyce for some time because he admired his writing and they became drinking buddies in Paris.
I doubt reading it again (referring to ULYSSES) would do this book any justice. I've read my share of "difficult novels" and yet I found this "masterpiece" to be complete nonsense. Just when I thought I had some idea where Joyce was going, he left me holding a book whose pages might as well have been blank. It's like reading the King James Bible....backwards.
Is this genuine. This is outstanding, I searched James Joyce footage not expecting to find anything yet viols. BenW, are you really a relative oc JJoyce?!
So poignant to see Joyce in this a surreal footage. A Goliath of a brain in such a fragile body. Adds a new dimension to my Joyce research and artist's response.
I need to read "Ulysses". I'm currently reading "As I Lay Dying" by Faulkner and can't wait to finish it. Not because it's so compelling but because I want to be done with it. I'll probably have to re-read it later on to grasp it. Anyway, I'll probably read "Ulysses" next and then move on to the Ciaro Trilogy by Naguib Mahfouz.
This narrrator has such a cool voice!

Can anyone confirm the story about Joyce passing out at a pub, and Hemingway carrying him home over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes?

Fun fact: Ernest hemmingway once killed a polar bear with no tools other than an empty bear bottle and a kangaroos ballsack.

Hilarious. A lot of the writers of this time have 30 seconds of known footage.
