  • 4 people fell into a mess of NES pixelated brambles.

  • *sniff* the memories....

  • Amazing Great All All Congratiulations

  • these memories..

    can't stop listening it...

  • no matter what ver of song this is wther it is 8bit up to 32 bit it still sounds amazimg

  • This song is bad ass in 8 bit, I had no idea it could sound this good until today. I LOVE YOUTUBE!!!!!!!

  • This song takes me to a happy place.

  • Ahh good soundtrack remeber this from my childhood ! thumb up if you rember it too ! :)

  • Shame this cover didn't fare better in the Famicompo judging. The only other entry in the same league is #11, which is a remix of the addictively catchy Yoshimune Pachinko tune, though the comparison isn't totally fair. With 24 channels, 250K in samples, and 4 expansion chips for a wide spectrum of FM, wavetable, and PSG, it might as well be a FastTracker module. I also enjoyed your Hare Hare Yukai track from the same set.

  • @Whelkman I fell in love with 11 haha, but yeah.. I don't get the chip mixing which is impossible hardware-wise... I actually would have rated this higher than my HHY which probably beat it due to popularity of Haruhi at the time, and probably lack of interest in DK from the Japanese? that was the series I submitted the day of sagittarius 3 joke that plummeted at last lol.

I prefer pure 2A03 tracks, but wanted to use VRC6 to simulate filters, which are like a DKC/Dave Wise signature!

  • @djbouche

I was going to ask if Day of Sagittarius 3 was a joke but didn't want to seem rude. I found it funny.

I'm not sure how I feel about the multichip compositions myself. Tracks like the Pachinko tune have largely sold me, but I view them more as coming from a full-scale (virtual) synth than from an NES. It's not much different than creating a virtual platform and pairing, say, a Commodore SID chip with an Atari POKEY. Still "real" chiptunes, but it doesn't match an existing platform.

  • @djbouche

However, the compositions are still technically impressive, especially considering the the possibilities the large number of channels yield yet with the base limitations remaining. On that point, I am incorrect about the track being sample heavy. Taking a look at it, the heavy synth effects I thought were samples were generated by the VRC7 and N106. Apparently it's all code except for some drum samples. Of the 24 channels available, only the VRC6 saw wave is unused.

  • @djbouche

Anyway, I agree on HHY. It was cute, but Stickerbrush has some real emotion in it, which is tough to accomplish in a chip tune, but, as you say, it's not surprising that it ranked highly given the show's popularity. You made the correct choice by using the VRC6. I haven't gotten to the latest stuff yet. I'll check it out.

  • @Whelkman although ironically, I did submit some VRC7+2a03 covers for sonic/SNES mario to the latest compo D:

  • You da man.

  • The MP3 download link won't work.

  • @HumanDaikon should work now, sorry about that :(

  • sweet years memories, now in 8 bit :' )

  • sweet years memories, now in 8 bit :' )

  • damn i thought 8 bit would make this masterpiece sound like shit but i was surely mistaken

  • Fucking genius

  • 8-bit and still just as awesome as the normal 16-bit version.

  • 8-bits -> and BEAUTIFULL !!

  • This is a beautiful rendition of one of my favorite songs from childhood.

  • maybe in 2 and a half years, i could get a cover band group to play this track!

  • nice bass :-)

  • great job!

  • this sounds offical. amazing job.

  • why is the beginning sounds off key ?

  • These sounds that you probably mean are in the original version as well. Just listen to it carefully.

  • That was too funny! Lol.

  • well i like the normal version better than the 8bit but .. this soundtrack is still the best soundtrack off all snes games in the whole universe :D

  • This sounds really good I like this alot and like others said, they should have used something like this in the GBA version of this game.

  • richesse

  • this song sounds kind of depressing really. still wonderful.

  • this... is.... awesome! =O

  • damn...this is good o_o

  • powerful!

  • woot!!

    nice.

  • Kinda sounds like DKL2 (Donkey Kong Land 2) 5/5!

  • Ok, why didn't they use this for the GBA port?

  • theres a difference between sounding like 8-bit , and being actually made on a real piece of 8-bit hardware, with all its limitations like how many simultaneous sounds of a certain type can be played at the same time and all that stuff....

  • carmatic

still, there were sound expansion chips on some 8bit systems, allowing for much more sounds at once.

  • @carmatic Yep. And making it that way is not an easy task. Chiptuning can be really hard.

  • Man. 8-bit is really nice to this song.

  • this is my fave song in DKC2 and its awsome in 8 bit

  • Sounds like my old Crystal Version. Very good. You did this one up nice

  • This sounds almost exactaly like the version of Stickerbrush Symphony from Donkey Kong Land 2. Good work!

  • He knows that...

I like this version better than the gba version, that's for sure. Awesome job!

  • this song 8bit style is awesome

hard choice between this and the original =S

  • Somebody was -sippin- on glycerin cuz this is mega cool and really shines as an art form. 5/5

  • Comment removed

  • FOAD, SippinCoughee. Besides, this song was also on Donkey Kong Land 2 for the GBC.

  • A similar song, this isn't the version mind,

  • it's cool the DK 2?

    nice music

  • I think this version sounds a bit more brighter and happier than the original SNES version. That one is a bit more slower, relaxing and of course to me more nostalgic lol.

  • Betcha this can be heard in the GBC version of DKC2.

  • A GBC of DKC2 would have been nice.. as a follow up of the awesome GBC port of DKC.

  • @djbouche there is a gbc version

  • Wow, this song is really quite beautiful.

  • I love this song, the original, the Brawl version and this one too! Very nice!

  • It is miles above the original, yes, but give Grant Kirkhope some credit. It was his first time working with 8-bit music and trying to get his head round using the Hex of the GameBoy to translate the SNES original themes, it's not easy to jump straight into.

  • Don't get me wrong, I really like his translations, they are miles above the disasters like the other translations I've seen onto more capable platforms *cough GBA cough*

It was just I felt there was soemthing missing, and wanted to have a go at it myself - of course, I cheated because I used expansion channels on this particular cover =)

  • This is pretty cool

reminds me of when i was a kid.

  • Sweet! Sounds somewhat like the Gameboy version found in Donkey Kong Land 2.

  • It's great! Sort of has an earthbound feeling to the introduction.

  • This is excellent.

  • tis song is...my...FAVORITE!!!!!i play tis level all the time just 2 hear the song

  • essa é de patrao

  • DJ Bouche, this is absolutely AMAZING! I'd love to hear Flight of the Zinger in 8-bit.

  • why look up donkey kong land 2 bramble blast

and then youll here how it sounded

    great remix anyways

  • nice work! its if i was playing DKC2 on the NES. haha. :)

  • so much better than the POS gxscc shit

  • wtf. this is 8 bit?

it sounds so good, i couldnt even recognize that it was 8 bit at first

    awesome job

  • read the title.

  • oh.....would've been smart if i did that first lol

  • Yea....lets go with that.

  • This is good. I like Brawl's version the best though. Yours comes second. 5/5.

  • This sounds bloody awesome! I'd love to hear NSFs of some other songs - especially the ones left out of DKL2 (Jib Jig, Mining Melancholy, Forest Interlude etc.) Do you have any plans to make more? :D

  • Could you make a .GBS version, please? :)

  • You're an inspiration to my work, if that means anything.

  • Why does the original 8bit version sound so bad, i love the original, but this one is actually also pretty good =)

  • Wow.. I can't beileve this is better then the GBA version.. But I love the SNES version best, because it's original xD

  • Can you make a downloadable version of this? I'd do a rip, but the quality suffers.

  • Please check the video description.

  • 'Cleaver girl...'

  • I didn't know there was a female cleaver in DKC2! ;)

  • HAHAh Jurrasic Park!

    ShOOT HERRR!

  • yeah i was allway,s imagining for how it should be to write snes music for the nes using all channels + the dpcm channels and the vrc6 chip and yes the result is great.

howabout to use the vrc7chip cuzz it comes more closer to the snes.

i was also thinking that if we shut port a snes game to the nes we can use the mmc5 chip cuzz it comes graphically by far also very close to the snes.

    great work!!!!!!!!!

    and i was imagining

  • VRC7 is nice however I wanted this to have the PSG chiptune sound that I like about the NES/GB.

Perhaps one day I will try to use it, as FM mixed with Chiptune does have a nice sound.

Music that only use VRC7 and no PSG and/or only DPCM.. you would not be able to tell straight away that it is a NES tune.

  • lawl, i was buying it until the drums came in

  • Yes, this Song Kicked ASS, The Level, the music, the game, it was juat a perfect combination.

this has been my favorite Videogame throught my whole Video Game Career.

  • Even in 8-bit, it sounds beautiful. Thanks. man.

  • This is pretty cool, yo! Nice work!

  • Awesome. This is my favorite video game song ever.
