MOTORWEEK has been around forever its the first TV car review show, now all the need to do is hire people who know how to drive a car.I own a stock 2008 STI and after it's first oil change with 3,000 miles on it at Englishtown NJ it pulled a 1.79 60ft and ran the 1/4 in 13.1 at 103mph Motorweek you need to HIRING DRIVERS
I've read most of the comments as they've come in. I suspect most folks agree, it looked as if the track was wet when tested. Plus test cars can have variables. Perhaps the clutch was already partially chewed before Motorweek got it. Perhaps the hydraulics were bad (not enough brake fluid in the clutch reservoir?) One can't always blame the driver.
@samchungrrt Absolutely. Smart thinking. There are so many factors that can add up to poor performance of any particular car. It's funny, stuff like that is commonly overlooked. That being said, motorweek still needs better drivers in my opinion, they have always had problems, lol. :)

lol 0-60 in 5.6? lmao thats pathetic, did they launch in second? At 3.25 it is not even a subaru you can tell by the shifter/seats. 14.1? no wonder car is still not broken into with 15 miles on odometer lol.
Motorweek, the dumbasses, got those 0-60 and 1/4mi times because they used a car with only 15 miles on the odo. It's not even broken in yet. And probably that fat guy was driving...
why does this sound like a lame dodge commercial??
I own this car and i've never had brake pedal vibration. 12000miles and still nothing. 0-60 in 5.6??? my dad can push it harder than that, let alone me.
thumbsdown for video. blerhk. wrongfully embarrassing
I think they were talking about the ABS. If you slammed the brake pedal in an ABS equipped vehicle like they do in braking tests, of course it's going to pulsate/vibrate.
The track was wet so i think there was a teeny bit of wheel slip plus the new manual isn't quite as easy to use as the old one so your shifts have to be done more carefully...
All this translates into motor week is a bunch of pussies who don't know how to drive the car the way it's supposed to be driven.
So awesome car! I had it 3 days on test and it was so hard to gave it back. First time when i saw it in some auto-moto magazine, i had neutral feelings to new Impreza. But when i first saw it in reality i was so impressed how it expresses its power - so muscle and strong shape... When i drove it first time I thought that I will go crazy, can't express that feelings. This crazy Japanese exactly know what cars they need to do.
yea thats true, when it first came out i thought it was the ugliest car made for the 2008 model years. But now its grown on me and i think it looks great.
exactly i hated it and none of my friends like it and but now that i have one it is the BOMB i went to the dealer ship and was hooked from there fuck all the haters and their round ugly muscle cars
they claim (subaru) the hatchback design provides more aerodynamic stability at speeds for rally. Everyones gotta remember this is a performance car, its really not made to look like an alfa romero but rather have a function to everything in its design.... i think it looks great though.
indeed... Edmund's managed to launch their new STi hatch in 4.5 seconds to 60... that's quite a big gap... This video even shows how bad they bogged the launch lol
My wife can do better launch than that and she isn't even into cars.
That's strange... Subaru has actually reported its BEST May sales for 2008, an increase in retail sales of about %13 compared to May 2007... I live in Southern California and I've seen quite a number of new Imprezas. Granted, it seems like they are being bought by an older crowd, which I think is a good change of pace. Personally, I find the new STi hatchback more attractive than the outgoing model. Perhaps it is because I like it's subtleness. And this is coming from an Evolution X owner!
Well, those performance figures are not accurate. In fact, I got better times on my MY08 than I did on my MY06. My '08 did 12.9 seconds in the 1/4 mile whereas my '06 did 13.3. Both cars were completely stock.
If the car they used in the 0-60 & 1/4 mile test is the same that showcased the C-Diff clips...the poor thing only had 15 miles on the odometer. I'd guess going all out on a car with teenage numbers on the odometer isn't suggestable.
Who care if the quarter mile is slower than older STi's...they are made for rallying, which the '08 dominates the older sedan imprezas. The weight may also be heavier, but the 305hp compensates for that...
everybody else (insideline, motortrend, C&D, etc.) clocks 0 to 60 between 4.5 and 4.8 seconds; motor week got either a bum car or bum testers, i figure the latter!
that was over a wet tarmac. Not a total waste of money but disappointing indeed. They should've brought the japan spec 2.0 liter engine instead of the 2.5 boxer.
this is all crap, the 2.5 model is shit compared to the jap spec 2.0. that does 0-60 in 4.2 and is much quicker than the old sti. there is a video of them testin them all
am i the only one that likes the hatchback better?

The video shows that the test track was wet, probably the reason for the slow acceleration times and long braking distance.

probably launched in I mode and bogged it. 122 feet for braking? edmunds had it down to 4.8 0-60 and 106 feet braking, a significant difference.

you're right. it almost looks like the 2010 mustang from the shifter/console. according to this the new wrx is light years faster than the sti.

The 2008 STI has been out for a while...
But here in Northern California, I haven't seen a single new STI on the street.
I don't think the new ones are selling very well, because there are older WRXs and STIs everywhere around here.
I've seen two or three new WRXs and they were all being driven by baby boomers!
Pretty funny. Or sad, I guess.
