I just purchased a 1T WD Caviar Black 7200rpm HDD. I hope it's as good as everyone is saying it is. The only thing i'm worried about is the shipping. Newegg may have the best prices around, but their packaging is a nightmare. Apparently, i'll get my hard drive wrapped up in a anit-static bag surrounded by bubble wrap, all in a box that could fit 10 or more hard drives. So i'm a little worried about it's trip here, lol.
@Badassmoafo Got it at Newegg, the only place I shop for computer hardware, lol. Unfortunately you just missed a great deal on it. Right now it's $99.99 with free shipping. I had gotten mine for $70 6 months ago, and last week they were $80.
You can look around at some other sites, but most sites list them cheaper than this but charge for shipping. So when shopping around for prices, be sure to factor in shipping costs.
You can check at tigerdirect, amazon, and many others sites.
@Badassmoafo Sorry, but your reply wasn't clear. "Can you give some feed back on how you have found the 1T WD Caviar Black" comes off more as "where do you get it" rather than "how well does it work."
Anyway, it works very well. It's extremely quiet and doesn't run too hot. I have it in an external enclosure and can't even hear it when writing large amounts of data to it. So far, I haven't noticed any change in performance. Still quiet, still cool, and still fast. I definitely recommend it.
I had the Death star drive. It lasted me for 3 years lol. I decided to upgrade my whole system after, Why i do not know but i love my DX10 system..i just have to wait for vista to lack of suck. Im doomed. Sorry crysis..dx9 for now.
Hitachi, Samsung and WD are good harddrive-brands. I turn on full AAM (Automatic Acoustic Management, a technology to reduce hard drive seek noise), although it makes them go a bit slower.
lol the american dollar is THAT weak :P. the canadian dollar is almost on par with it now. but we're still paying the same prices we've always been paying :x
hey chris you rock and ponzi looks so amazing just had to say that i loved when you were on call for help but i like you better on the stream your more free to do what you want

im going to buy a 500gb harddrive with a 7200 rpm is that good i mean is it fast. the brand is OEM
chico3mendo 3 years ago
I doubt that the brand is OEM. OEM means that you can only buy it as a part of a whole system.
