do you know were l can buy orchids seeds in Australia. Every time l get a seed pod it dies. so l decided to buy seeds but a lot of the sites l visit can not send seeds overseas.
Im new to flasking...... I bought a flask already made and I am supposed to let it sit for about 3 months..... Please inbox me a video tutorial that tells everything you need and step by step directions for flasking... THANKS!
i thought i read somewhere you could actually get orchid plants from other plant parts, like tip of flower bud, or tip of fresh shoot, when you put into the agar medium. i havent tried it yet, do you think it works?
@potion789456 Yes you can. It's a rather slow process at first. Multiplying orchids from imature flower stalks is commonly done. Very young leaves, before they develop a notch at the end have been used also. After the leaves mature the cells in them no longer have the capacity to multiply, at least no one has figured out how to get them to.
Whats the diffrent between sowing media and replating media? l was going to leave the orchids until there big enough to handle outside so what media should l use replating or sowing.

@nativeorchids101 Sowing media usually doesn't have enough of the necessary ingredients, like inorganic salts, to support growth. Replate or maintenance media usually will have more inorganic salts which can kill some orchid seeds but supports the growth of orchid seedlings. I got away with using a replate media for seed sowing. This worked quite well with the Cattleya but may not work with other orchids.

I was going to use the OspEx 1.0 replate medium I live in australia and will be flasking cymbidium x Phalaenopsis (it was the only orchid l had that was in flower at the time and is a experiment for l have not flasked before) so woud that media be alright for flasking and if not were could l find some media alright for natives?
@nativeorchids101 You have access to a great supplier of orchid media right there in Southern Australia. Helen and Kevin at Western Orchids Laboratory makes terrific orchid media. I've used some of their media, W2.5 replate media. I purchased at the Orchid Seedbank Project as Aaron used to sell it. Good stuff. Their media is expensive here in the U.S. because of shipping charges. It should be reasonable for you to purchase it. I would go to the site and look at their technical information
@nativeorchids101 Hi Nativeorchids. Yes. Not in the microwave of course but the pressure cooker you can. For seed germination there doesn't need to be a hole in the lid. After the seeds germinate there needs to be some air exchange. You can drill a 1/16 inch hole and cover it with a round Band-Aid. The Band-Aids can be autoclaved. After placing the seeds in the jars cover the lid with some cling wrap held on by a rubber band. This helps keep contamination away from the Band-Aid.
@nativeorchids101 Hi nativeorchids, one more thing. I take it by your name you might be flasking native orchids. Careful of the orchid media you use. Native orchids can be tricky.
@ezdez Thanks ezdez. Everyone does it differently. I hope you found something in there that will help.
Phytotech has their BM-1 and BM-2 Terrestrial Orchid media. Both are the same except BM-2 has agar. I would take a look at Aaron's site, The Orchid Seedbank Project. There's not many people who know more about orchid seed germination than Aaron. He has the largest collection of orchids in vitro than anyone in the U.S. and probably the world. Poke around on the site. Good info there.

Great series of videos. I am interested in doing stem propogation of phalaenopsis orchids. A step-by-step video on that subject would be superb.
