I understand why you feel that way. When I first time saw the title 'gunshu' I was wonder too? 'Qiang Shu' is the Chinese original name. "Qiang" is for old time Chinese 'spear'(one of the kind). And 'Qiang' is the same CLhinese sound of 'gun' now. But in Chinese one is wood part word(means made by Wood) and the other is supose gold part word(means made by Matel);but I don't know why the gun now still use the wood part word. So, you can understand what kind of mistake people make.
I guess both are weapons. So,the modern GUN use the same word the old time QIANG. THey both can aim far and point to one dot quick. The very first GUN showing at China must gave some idea to those Chines people(very possible in the front of Emperor as a gift)who touch GUN, think that Gun works like Qiang. Wow! I can't imaging how short distant those gun worked that time. Sorry, my English is not good enough to explain clear.
From the view here, this should call "Gan Shu". 太极 拳(fist or box by yourself, so this mean no fight),刀(board? sword),剑(sword),杆(long stick,in Chinese old ruler should be 丈三 or longer;but for kids(?)shorter?); than the 散手this is two people use their 拳术(fist or box skill) to practice fighting skill.
I came here expecting chinese people with guns tied to their shoes.
