Hey jmricks...What's your name? I was in band that year too! This is Arika Haynes- played clarinet from '01-'05. This by far was one of my favorite shows of all time. I YouTube'd this b/c I hear the band is playing a video game show this wknd for TX/OU.
Actually, we're getting ready to perform another show of this sort for the upcoming Colorado Game and maybe the OU game as well, except this year it will be just a Video Game show, so no cartoons/superheroes. We haven't started learning the forms yet, but we have been rehearsing the music and will begin the marching on Thursday.
Good to hear. I was on the drumline when this video was filmed and we got a great response from the student sections. I'm sure the same will happen with the show y'all are planning. I'll be at the home games and the OU game, so I'll be looking forward to it.
The 2nd half was one of the most amazing turnarounds I have ever seen in a football game, very similar to Notre Dame/USC in 1974. However a bigger comeback on UT's part.
this is one of the best bands with one of the worst color guards, which is a shame because guards are supposed to enhance the show not distract you from it...
yeah, I was on the drumline for 4 years and I totally agree with you. We had a guard, but also "big flags." The actual guard was alright, but the big flags sucked. It was basically made up of people that didn't play their instruments good enough to make the band, but they beat out some people during the marching tryouts.
I liked the formations and musical comp better in this than Cal, but Cal had falling tetris peices, that was pretty cool. This video seems to have a much fuller sound and range of instruments than Cal. Ofcourse that could be the video quality as well.
it was great i liked it but the cal band was a little bit better cause it was non stop action this one is great but the anouncer giving away all the characters was annoying yes their formation was better but the cal band had more soul and their mario underworld song was much clearer. but these are two great bands and great themes
I prefer this one to Cal's because the marching looks more precise. They aren't doing as much movement, but when they are, every beat looks like a subset. I like the arrangements better, too.
that's freaking crazy i can feel the burn of keep my trumpet for the whole time both cal's and this show were freaking crazy but i think this one was not as good because they had so many people and the formations would be a bit hard to fit but it was freaking awsome no matter what
This is a decent Marching Band show. The music is absolutely excellent, and the forms are decent. However, they stay in the forms for too long. This is why the California's show is better at least in the field forms ~ they were able to flow into many different forms and still play the songs with a good amount of skill.
all of it was amazing. i love to superman sheild.. much better than ours. but i guess you can pull that off when you have 350 people. lol. wish you would have done the movie batman theme though. that would have been better.
I actually agree with you that Cal's was better - it was more interesting because they had more movement and action to it than this does; which is pretty much changing images. I also think they could have had more color guard involvement. Which is another thing that amazed me with Cal - they didn't have a color guard (or any that I saw anyway).
I live less than 10 minutes from UT stadium. Just beautiful to watch. The Zelda formation was better by this group. Saturday morning childhood memories all rolled into one marching band.
i love to go texas

thats just a shame... they should rethink that approach...

This whole routine was brilliant! They get a 1! I loved the flintstones at the begining with the Flintstone's car!

whats the name of the drum cadence as they were marching on to the field
bobcat2307 3 years ago
It's called Tenor Intro, but very similar to a common cadence called Cheerleader. You can get Texas Drumline info and music at TexasDrums . com

The Cal Band doesn't have guard but they still pulled together a very cool show.
D34dlySpork 4 years ago 3
that's what I meant with my last statement, that Cal pulled off an awesome show without a color gaurd. ^^; Prolly wasn't very clear on that.

Oh my god.... The zelda shield, oh my god! Amazing! I am so happy you didnt do the triforce. The shield is much better, and shows off more talent.
