Santa Monica. I'd recommend any of the beach cities. The further inland you go, generally the worse things get (with some exceptions)

@1990babyface Like any city, the nicer neighborhoods are more expensive, but there is usually affordable housing available in every city if you look around. Stay away from South LA (South Central) and East LA as there are too many sketchy areas.
