From the opening scene and pan, I thought it might have been Bobby playing the piano, but if you observe closely you can see a splice just before they show Bobby's face.
I don't remember this episode. At the time, I detested David Cassidy and Bobby Sherman. They were all over the cover of magazines like Teen Beat. I was about 12 years old, and listening to the progressive rock thing at the time like the Airplane, Zep, and Mountain. This episode may have a lot of viewers because they were heart throbs for a lot of teenage, and younger, girls.
This brings back so many memories--I can relate to your growing up horrors and the tragedies of the Vietnam war, My high school english teacher was called up at the end of my junior year.
This Partridge family episode was an intro to to Bobby Sherman's new show "Words and Music" only lasted a year, I think.
Growing up in a house where abuse was prevalent, these 2 artists were my escape from my life. I was ridiculed by my classmates, but in my fantasy world these 2 were my best friends and truly cared about me. I know it's sad, but it was the only way to deal with the heartache at home. I still admire both of them and wish I could see them perform.
@fiend0810 - Hello. Me, too. These two plus a few others. My "home" was filled with verbal & physical violence from both parents & a bully sibling. The radio, TV, record player & magazine racks were my escape also. Today, I volunteer for child abuse prevention & my spouse & I treat our own two children with genuine, life affirming love. I hope your situation got much better when you left your violent home as well. Best Wishes to you. Peace to ALL.
@fiend0810 I well understand how you feel honey! Both of these young men project a kind, caring manner which was the opposite of what you experienced, and obviously really craved for. I hope you have been able to move on from all this hurt, and the way to do this, is to be able to show that same care, for others.
@podiumguy100 that's not how i remember it, after bobby & david then lief, shaun & donny came along which by that time I was starting to grow out of bubblegum & pop music; i never noticed the bay city rollers at all.
@greenpilgrim50 then you had your head in the sand ... sorry ... donny was around the same time as david (sorta) ... i remember an interview with donny saying he was relieved when the Rollers came along and bumped him ...took the pressure off ... as for shaun and leif the were at the tail end of the rollers ...
@podiumguy100 Well, My brother went to Viet Nam and went missing so maybe I was distracted when the rollers rolled through. He was found after a year and brought back home then things were never the same after that. The fun days of Bobby Sherman gave way to grave personal calamity and a quick growing up period. But that being said, the Bay city rollers weren't hot like Bobby for me personally.
@podiumguy100 Well you're unnecessarily hateful but I don't tell you that you should consider keeping your hate off the internet. I'll share whatever I feel like sharing as the last time i checked we still were hanging on to some semblance of freedom of speech in America; and IF I had a facebook page, you would never be invited to view it so don't worry yourself about it.
danny bonaduce cracks me up in this video...bobby is as gorgeous as ever, too bad they didn't let him sing the whole song instead of sticking snobby david up there.
@trwent when i was 13 the singing voice didn't seem to matter much! The smile at :37 says it all. Bobby had the most gorgeous smile.(apparently the director of this show was privy to that influence on young girls as well as he closed up on that shot :) I discovered a few years ago how talented David really is but he disses his fans a lot. David also seems to have inherited that troubled gene from his Dad so maybe I should cut David some slack for coming off like a jerk.
bobby was cooler than david( even with bobbys comeover), but the coolest tiger beat idol was tony defranco!,/sorry donnie, also the studio guy playin keyboard on here is very good! who is he?
@themightycelestial Yes, Bobby was almost always seen in pictures wearing a choker. Chokers and Love Beads were very popular then, you could even order them from the "teen magazines" and look just like your heartthrob!
I thought Bobby sang Stephanie much better than David. Not to mention he was far more gorgeous. Well maybe a better word would be "sexier" than David. I remember playing in my first band....when no one was looking or listening, I was rocking to this song......"if I'm doin all I can do/all but the growin and that's up to you."
I used to buy Tiger Beat magazine for the David Cassidy photo's etc., and Bobby Sherman was always in the magazine but I'm in Canada and I never saw him on television - I don't recall this episode. I only knew Julie do you love me as his only song.
Thanks for the info;i remember most of the music around this time while i was growing up,and was pretty certain Bobby Sherman did not have any UK hits.
he had about 4 big hits. "Little Woman" from the fall of 1969, "La La La" from early 1970, "Easy Come, Easy Go", from the spring of 1970, & "Julie, Do Ya Love Me", from the summer of 1970. he had a couple of minor hits. "Hey, Mister Sun" & "Cried Like a Baby" were top 20 hits.
@gunners1971100 No, he only had hits in North America (where a number of his lower-charting hits in the US did VERY well) and Australia... He's retired now, but he was a policeman/paramedic for many years after his success.
...of course, I was about 9 or so when this came out...thought they were stupid and 'hippy' a s akid, now they have moved into the 'kitsch' realm....LOL !
I did like David, he was cool, but Bobby was the love of my life at thirteen. You got to admit, those beautiful blue eyes of Bobby sure did dig into your soul. What a handsome hunk!!!!
David Cassidy and Bobby Sherman were often compared to each other when they were popular back in the 70s, but in reality there is no comparison as far as talent goes. Cassidy was MUCH more talented as a singer; his voice was rich, distinctive, and resonating. Sherman was just an okay singer; there was really nothing really special about his voice at all. And now Bobby's a cop; good for him. And David's a drunk; bad for him. Just like his dad, he's a substance abuser.
Agree with NotADood....right time of year, it is rather hot in here, but what a way to burn. & 2 davidismr426 TV was much better back then and everything today' misses the mark by yards. Don't even own a tv anymore, prefer my addiction to YouTube. thanks for the post- fun memories.
Bobby Sherman has been my idol since I was a young kidd he looks just as good now as he did back then.I always wanted to meet him. I still play his songs. He is still a good looking man
This appearance began Bobby's show "Getting Together" remember that? I tell you, I could not WAIT to see it. Bobby Sherman was such a heart throb! I am so happy to see this piece of this episode here. THANKS!!!!!!!!
This episode was the pilot for the short-lived series "Gettin Together" staring Sherman and Wes Stern. Someone pleeeeese post the titles for that show! PLEEEEEESE!
Bobby Sherman, is a musical genuis from way back. He was one of the first to play all the instruments himself, and play with his own prerecorded music, he also did some acting. He dropped out to be a paramedic in the 80s and still does retro shows. He still sounds great, and although older still pretty much looks the same
Just watched PF on DVD. This episode in my opinion isn't very entertaining, however, the song is awesome. Can anybody tell me some more about Bobby Sherman? I don't know him.
All the COOL kids LOVED David Cassidy ! ! ! In our school faves, he always beat out sherman (alot kids by then didn't even now who bobby sherman was).
Forget David Cassidy, give me Bobby anyday, its nice to know 30 some years later and I still chose Bobby over David, have you seen Bobby lately? He still is better looking than David.
Don't remember THIS episode but Sherman was big at the same time as the Partridges - I Like the song, too. Sounds better by Keith & some production, but Bobby gets short shrift when it comes to musicianship - Thnaks for posting!!
I too love the zombie snapping guy. Bobby Sherman and others of his ilk used to roll with those neck thingys back then. It was kind of a metrosexual statement of the early 70s, before they invented metrosexuals of course. Women used to wear them too as I recall.
Right on. I knew they had a name, but I am kind of glad that I didn't remember that. lol. Cher wore them a lot as I remember and my gf in 2nd grade too.) Thanks for gettin me straight on the name for them.
wow.. we won' t talk about how old I was when I wore the chokers. I had several with the fake cameos on them and thought they were very very cool. I also used to kiss my David Cassidy and Bobby Sherman poster goodnight. Sent them both many letters drenched in perfume. Years later I found out that letters sent that way stink when they arrive!! how sad.. haha
i love bobby sherman, but what the H is he wearing around his neck at the nightclub? a dog collar? very disturbing with that face he's making at 1:15.
Man how I agree with you there is only one show that I watch and thats two and a half men all of the other shows aren't worth it.
Also has you watch the music videos of back then, notice on how happy every body is, has compared today, were every body is mad or angry at something I dont see to many happy people today singing songs
Getting away from the Bobby-David Lovefest here...there was another PF song using this same backing track in the first season called "Good Times" (Good times are coming to me, I'm all of the things that I wanted to be) Anyone got that one on video? Love to see it. OK...resume love fest! lmao
I want to jump in head first in the David and Bobby love fest! lol. I love, love, love this episode of the Partridge Family. Its how I discoved Bobby, and I love Lionel's character too. The three of them are so great together...and when they are not together, they are still all brilliant. :D
I was a major Bobby Sherman fan and was so angry when David Cassidy came along and "replaced" him. I was so hurt when 'Here Come the Brides" was cancelled. I never got into "Gettin Together", didn't care for sitcoms back then. But after a while I got over it, went to a David Cassidy concert and screamed like a teenybopper & decided I liked David, but never got over my major crush on Bobby! I STILL have a crush on him!
I thought Bobby Sherman was a firefighter... anyway, this was one of my favorite teen memories... in the day before video tapes I would sit in front of the tv with my cassette recorder and listen all week to the show until the next one came on and then tape over it and start all over... Stephanie was written for a little girl at the orphanage... wow... amazing how the memory works...
I don't know what's funnier...the clip or the comments!!!! Pumpkin, Puff, and Not....LOL!!! I have to say, thinking about watching these shows as a kid...bobby in that choker, david in the ruffle shirts...is it ANY wonder I AM GAY?????
To be perfectly blunt and biological, you probably have same sex attraction due to chemical imbalances, and nothing to do with chokers and ruffled shirts.
David Cassidy and Bobby Sherman on the same show is just too much hotness. That could cause a nuclear meltdown. We need to evacuate the area immediately.
To NotADood: You say Bobby Sherman and David Cassidy together could cause a nuclear meltdown and the area needs to be evacuated immediately? And just exactly what "area" are you referring to. I really don't think the "area" needs to be evacuated at all chil' I think maybe you just need to go somewhere and sit your little hot ass down on a block of ice for a day or two. And I don't mean a lil ol' icecube from an icetray sweetie; it's best YOU go find YOURSELF a damn ICEBERG or a glacier honey!
Cool song, it still holds up years later. I remember there was a spin off show called Gettin' Together, based on the Bobby Sherman & Wes Stern characters in this episode.
I loved Bobby and David back in 1970. Still love them today. Whatever happened to good music for teenyboppers? Upbeat and magicfilled. Sure miss those days.
The fellow sitting next to Bobby Sherman at the table is Glenn Beck. Can anybody verify this. David Cassiday sure was cute. I'm a heterosexual guy but he is gorgeous.
Bobby Sherman is sitting between Dave Madden (from Laugh In) and a fellow named Wes Stern (who played the lyricist of the song Bobby and David were playing). Glenn Beck (anchor/talk show dude) would have been 6 years old when this was aired in 1970. A simple Google of Bobby Sherman Partridge Family would have given your this info. I'm not gay, but I would still like to bop Shirley Jones.
Then check out Marlo Thomas in "that girl" I liked her a little better than David even. p.s. Susan Dey did a nude movie scene years ago but I don't remember the name.
Never included in any of their albums, but is available on the dvd "The Very Best of the Partridge Family", released a couple years ago. Tons of 'em available on Ebay (probably on Amazon, too).
I remember sitting in front of the television and watching this episode. My thought was and still is that this is such a beautiful song, although listening to it now, the organ sounds 70ish, David sounds good but Bobby sounds better. Great nostalgia.
Does anyone have the full episode. I remember that this was my favorite episode of the Patridge Family.

However, I do have a question about this particular episode;
Bobby Sherman wears a gamut of chokers throughout this episode.
Was that part of his fashion style in real life back during his heyday?

Getting away from the Bobby-David Lovefest here...there was another PF song using this same backing track in the first season called "Good Times" (Good times are coming to me, I'm all of the things that I wanted to be) Anyone got that one on video? Love to see it. OK...resume love fest! lmao

I want to jump in head first in the David and Bobby love fest! lol. I love, love, love this episode of the Partridge Family. Its how I discoved Bobby, and I love Lionel's character too. The three of them are so great together...and when they are not together, they are still all brilliant. :D

I agree! Do you guys at TV land hear our plea's?
msmac1982 3 years ago 3
I was a major Bobby Sherman fan and was so angry when David Cassidy came along and "replaced" him. I was so hurt when 'Here Come the Brides" was cancelled. I never got into "Gettin Together", didn't care for sitcoms back then. But after a while I got over it, went to a David Cassidy concert and screamed like a teenybopper & decided I liked David, but never got over my major crush on Bobby! I STILL have a crush on him!

Wow, Bobby Sherman and David Cassidy together on the same show! I'll bet every teenage girl in the world tuned into that one.
Rabiddogge 3 years ago 4
Interesting how Bobby's voice is somewhat similar to David's.

To be perfectly blunt and biological, you probably have same sex attraction due to chemical imbalances, and nothing to do with chokers and ruffled shirts.

I love these old television shows. You don't see any niggers, spics, or any other mystery meat.Just wholesome White people.

PP, I want to believe you're being sarcastic. If you are it's sick and tasteless. If you're not, well I won't tell you just what you are.

PineappleGirl61 3 years ago 2
David Cassidy and Bobby Sherman on the same show is just too much hotness. That could cause a nuclear meltdown. We need to evacuate the area immediately.
NotADood 3 years ago 28
To NotADood: You say Bobby Sherman and David Cassidy together could cause a nuclear meltdown and the area needs to be evacuated immediately? And just exactly what "area" are you referring to. I really don't think the "area" needs to be evacuated at all chil' I think maybe you just need to go somewhere and sit your little hot ass down on a block of ice for a day or two. And I don't mean a lil ol' icecube from an icetray sweetie; it's best YOU go find YOURSELF a damn ICEBERG or a glacier honey!

Yes, David has a much better voice and singing style than Bobby.

Hey, Mrtakushi! It makes you even more so great as a straight guy that you can admit when another guy is gorgeous!!!!!

The fellow sitting next to Bobby Sherman at the table is Glenn Beck. Can anybody verify this. David Cassiday sure was cute. I'm a heterosexual guy but he is gorgeous.
mrtakushi 3 years ago
you're gay
begun101 3 years ago
Bobby Sherman is sitting between Dave Madden (from Laugh In) and a fellow named Wes Stern (who played the lyricist of the song Bobby and David were playing). Glenn Beck (anchor/talk show dude) would have been 6 years old when this was aired in 1970. A simple Google of Bobby Sherman Partridge Family would have given your this info. I'm not gay, but I would still like to bop Shirley Jones.
IndyBaker 3 years ago
The really odd thing here is that I'm gay and I think Susan Dey is HOT!
Drillin4Oil 3 years ago 2
Then check out Marlo Thomas in "that girl" I liked her a little better than David even. p.s. Susan Dey did a nude movie scene years ago but I don't remember the name.
mrtakushi 3 years ago
I don't think that's so odd....most straight people I know think she's hideous.

sebringgal1958 4 years ago
Never included in any of their albums, but is available on the dvd "The Very Best of the Partridge Family", released a couple years ago. Tons of 'em available on Ebay (probably on Amazon, too).

I remember sitting in front of the television and watching this episode. My thought was and still is that this is such a beautiful song, although listening to it now, the organ sounds 70ish, David sounds good but Bobby sounds better. Great nostalgia.
