well, i can barely even hear it, and iv only seen him mess up one other time...such an underrated guitar player, its sickening that more people dont appreciate him
I was at this show in the first row two nights in a row. He did it ON PURPOSE, as a joke. Notice how he jokingly goes to hide behind his amps. He did this BOTH nights that I saw him, it's a part of the show. Alex has a great sense of humor.
It's really not a big deal. Your not perfect every day in your job either. You just dont do it in front of 15000 people a night. I guess when such a minor matter has to be shown as your mistakes then perhaps some people need to get out more often.
I watched Alex break a string in Dayton Ohio. I think it was the Grace Under Pressure tour. It was in the middle of the solo section of YYZ. When he was 'thrown' another guitar he came back into the song in the wrong spot. He realized he made a mistake, laughed and caught up to Neil and Geddy. It was great to see how he handled it, that he is human and just had a good time with it.
@deputy1229 I saw him break a string during Superconductor. Geddy picked up, Alex wrapped the B string, slid down, played with four strings, played the keyboard bridge (back when it was played rather than triggered), and the tech ran out and looped another guitar over him. He never missed a note.
I saw them do this at MSG in NYC. Alex played an A chord when he was supposed to play an F going into the quieter portion of the number. It doesnt matter though. They laugh off their mistakes and the audience does too. Best band ever.
Alright everyone Just let Lerxst be Lerxst :) when you are touring on the road for days upon days it came be very demanding. From time to time you will have a little memory slip, but it's how you deal with it that makes the difference, and Alex did a wonderful job with recovering the performance! music is not about perfection but being truely vulnerable, and expressing emotions that can't be expressed otherwise! Alex Lifeson is the master at that!
Gremlins. Actually it's known as a brain fart. I've experienced these personally. Songs I've played 500 times I sometimes forget how they start out. It happens. It's almost like the songs are too familiar and if you over-think them, rather than just letting your muscle memory take over, brain fart. For future reference, Alex Lifeson doesn't make mistakes.
Haha he messed up a little on Free Will at the concert at the Yum Center at Louisville (he made a funny face) but he did what you're supposed to, just laugh it off and move on!
Even when alex screws up it still sounds better than all guitarists.

It's nothing to do with his amp - clearly Alex is in the wrong position to play the G he needs to.
