@Ophileagoesforaswim - Basically, this woman had a child with a ragtime piano player. She didn't tell him that she was pregnant with his child, so he didn't stick around. When she bore his son, so lost it and buried the baby in the garden. A different woman digs up the still live baby, and takes both the child and his mother into her care. This is her asking for forgiveness.
Later the piano player finds out that it is his son, and joyfully comes back.
omg now that is how the number should be performed!!!! outstanding vocals and acting from this girls!!!! heart wrenching!!! i love wot the director did with the "baby" very clever & effective ... best amateur performance of this i have seen on tube so far!!! 5 *s :D
@braxtonioan according to wikipedia shes not crazy, she ran away and went through a difficult painful child birth during which, in a moment of madness she buried her baby, however dont quote me on it, this is wiipedia im quoting from
@braxtonioan she had a baby with a man who slept around, he left her before he knew she was pregnant, and after the childbirth, she buried him in the alley, and she hid herself, a couple took her in and saved her baby, and she was singing in their attic, that's what my music teacher told me when she sang this song for us
actually, the song is supposed to be performed while sarah is holding the baby and singing to it, and yes, the baby is alive and she knows it. in this production, i guess they changed things up a bit.
OMIGOD. so moving... the tearing at the bundle was so powerful... this truly conveyed sarah's hurt, fear and anger while still sounding like a pretty song. 10 out of 5 stars!
If you like this song....type Louise Dearman into Google and go onto her website, click on listen on the left hand side and listen to her version of Your Daddy'd Son. It is wonderfully sung!!! Best version I have heard!! Enjoy :) Just so you know, Louise Dearman is currently in the West End staring in the musical Wicked.

I'm doing the pit orchestra for this musical (I play the cello) and it is by far one of the most fun things I have done in awhile. Our high school actually is doing this play pretty good.
Perfect Performance..the conviction yet control in her voice. She knew what to do with her body movements. Powerful song..love it with my heart and she just tore it up. I'm so glad that somebody knows how to do this song true justice.
i just saw this show! ur amazing. please dont be offended but i think ciarra (who was sarah when i saw it)was so amazing! she has a powerful voice! i know i like her more only because i know her. but man, u have an amazing and powerful voice! 5 stars all the way!
I never comment on youtube videos really but i can;t even contain how much this moved me! i have heard this song done a hundred different ways (exaggerating duh but u know what i mean) and this one truly was my favorite. You're voice caught my attention the words make me care but it was your acting that completely blew me away. at points i thought the rocking was distracting but it was characterization that made it honest and beautiful. keep up the fantastic work and BRAVO!!! i almost cried
Thats soo good. I never listened to the words before . Just the vocals but this is a really good song.

She's already buried the baby. She's nuts as hell. She's just rocking a blanket and singing to it cuz she thinks the baby is dead.
