  • This is absolutely brilliant,Mark is absolutely Brilliant!!!!!!

  • I'm Proud to be french! You're a great Musician Mark! :)

  • Who is the guy playing the tele?

  • @ecojot @ecojot I guess it's Richard Bennett.

  • I would like his mic turned up a little. Landreth is drowning him out.

  • Legendary Mark with Sonny Landreth on slide. Can it get any better?

  • The Master at work. Timeless!!!

This is Great! An Englishman, singing in French, with a country swing beat in rhythm & blues ....

  • 4:25 .... and nothing to comment :)

  • Je suis désolé mais je n'ai pas le choix.I'm sorry but i have no choices for présent time and Je n'avais pas le choix/I had no choices.

  • Je suis désolé = I'm sorry Pardonnez moi or Pardon moi = Pardon me/excuse me.

  • absolutely brilliant, as Mark said at the beginning. It doesn't get any better than this.

  • Hi to all, I went to a Google-Translator and I fond that "Je Suis Désolé" means "I am sorry" or "Excuse me" ? Is it correct, who can say?

  • wow omg i saw something really funny!! xD Who said "je suis désolé" means i'm lonely? who said that, i want to laugh x) Appart ça cette chanson le met autant en valeure que d'habitude, c'est toujours aussi prodigieux.

  • never tire of this ... beautiful slide

  • Bienvevue à cette chanson avec quelques phrases en français..En tout cas je ne suis pas désoléee,je suis ravie d ' être fan!!

  • i guess he was thinking to some cajun+dixie hybrid style sound model. great anyway.

  • This song, reminds me a very natural life , ocean , airflow of times, and desires...it is masive expresions of senses, and ways of fire.....really a great gold song.

congratulations Mark and Sonny, and the band, ...greates guitarrist of history!

from San Juan , Puerto RIco, Carlos Burgos

  • @RusHi Carlos, it's nice to meet you on the Y-T listening to the fantastic music of Mark Knopfler . Kind regards from Szczecin, Poland.

  • I would have liked to see Mark and Sonny playing off one another from 5:33 until about 12:40 !!!!! Way too short!

  • This music has the power to relax. When I get home from work and listening, I no longer think of anything. Preferably before I make a rocket ....

  • underbart jammande! högsta tänkbara klass!

  • It's not fair!!! al Mark songs are to short,i can play them 59 times a day!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    greatsssss bluemoon

  • I'm a Frenchman and i can tell u that the chorus of Mark Knopfler in this song is better that many french chorus with his lyrics, it's simply amazing, a awesome guitarist and also a very good writer. Hello from a frenchman teenager Mark :)

  • Allright, "je suis désolé" but if a badass "moddafakka" or perfectly hidden criminal says that ,he has no right to speak for starters! Spit the thing out and trow it in the light, it will burn up like hell or something he knows all too good.

  • Lollies for my ears!

  • Lollies for my ears!

  • i´m 55 and i grow up with this musik today it´s better than years ago. MK is the best

  • Sounds like Calling Elvis live

  • Quelle merveille de l'entendre (en plus) dans ma langue ! Merci Mark pour toute votre oeuvre.

  • amaizing

  • it's not fair that the song it's so short !!!

it should go on for ALL NIGHT LONG !!!

  • Just how much talent does this man have??! Is there any limit to him??!

  • SSSOOOO hard to pick a favorite of Marks, but this is close. Amazing!!

  • Well done, tres bien Mark:-), this is class, your song is so good, but I think “triangle or ti-fer” and fiddle would have made it even better. I guess the story, is it about acadiennes (Cajun) on their way to Louisiana “leaving” Acadia in east Canada?

  • OMG. I could just eat him up.

  • great Mark, you are the best

  • I hope this man to live forever and I always listen to

  • After all this time this is, IMO, still the best music video on You Tube! WOW

  • how can you dislike this? o_O world's gone wrong, and i'm not talking about bob dylan's album

  • most of the songs on Goden heart 1996 are amazing,

  • awesome guitarist-- he is quite a talent!

  • Isn't that man on the Strat Sonny Landreth???

  • Je suis désolé mais je vous annonce que cette chanson est excellente

Je n'ai pas le choix de vous le dire c'est la vie qui me demande ça...:P

  • great song. What i like more about mk k is that he seems to be open on different cultures, borrowing words and expressions from different languages and also talking about some events that can be related to other countries. He's really A GREAT ARTIST!!

  • @222smily Yeah, I like that as he matures he has sought out the folk songs from his own land and others and is preserving this music. The McGarrigles did that too.

  • There is probably more badass out there than goodones.

So, one day you life your "live and let die moment " too.

You are entitled to say: je suis désolé" or more clear: Die away ,go barkening skywards and disappear remote! Leave people in peace.

  • Knopfler+Landreth=the shit x 2

  • @pretorious700 ? Get out of here ??

  • A genius at work. Music is form of Art but not always. Today music, almost all, is an insult comparing with this.

  • The invention called Guitar should be so proud.

  • Demonstration class, an achievement for the guitar.

    Master musicians.

  • @EastLondonbloke90 If you haven't done this already, check out all the people Knopfler has played with, would you believe he played with Bob dylan way back before Dire Straits?

  • @hanalei169 He hasn't; the first Dylan album he played on came out in 1979, a year after Dire Straits' first album.

  • @mangobanan Hi,you may be, probably are, right about the time frame. I've watched this vid. many times on you tube and now I can't find it. It was/is Dylan,Knopfler and a few others that are known doing "don't fall apart on me tonight" and I sure got the impresion that it was before Dire Straits they also did Lic. to kill at the same session

  • The way they choreographed this song is remarkable, it starts off low and slow then builds to a crescendo at around 6:00 then fades out for the next min. and a half.

  • where exactly in london was this concert hold? thks

  • where was this concert hold? thks

  • grande maaaaaaaarK!

  • I tried to put this video on my computer while i was working, but, man, i couldn't get my eyes away from the screen ! it's just too good !

So, "je suis désolé" (= i'm sorry) but i have to turn it off...

  • Hoe doen hy dit??? Die koor gedeelte / in so 'n growwe "husky" stem??

Dis so mooi en goed gedoen. My woordeskat kan nie beskryf wat hy is en wat hy doen nie.

  • Cant get this out of my head !!! I love it ! Mark= brilliant . A true star

Thank you thank you thank you for the music

  • Mark's facial expression at 6:57 - priceless.

  • @klotylda Mr. Nice smile ;o]

  • When LIFE asks you something and you reject it , you reject yourself.

    THINK 'BOUT THAT-ONE.

  • reminds me of jj cale with the blues licks... love it love it!!

  • TO beautiful for words. Love you Mark!

  • RIGHt!

    Pas le choix.

  • I am sorry but I have no choice I am sorry but the life asks me for that

  • too literal, man. more like "i'm sorry, but I have no choice. i must live" in other words. I have to leave if i'm going to live. it's an emigration song.

  • Great ......................

  • sorry travpoet, meant to +1 your comment :-\

  • @matbat26 yeah ive had that before, its ashame you cant undo it on utube

  • Exelente, Mark Knopfler y Sonny Landreth juntos.

    Saludos desde Argentina!

  • a-m-a-z-i-n-g performance from the creator.

    Superb backup.

Mark is one of the few , clearly from another breed. Since the begining.

It's always a delight to share his mastery pouring out.

  • love this song but it's mising the fiddle to give it that cajun beat

  • Je Suis Désolé, Mais Je N'ai Pas Le Choix.

It Means : "I'm Sorry But I Have No Choice."

  • apprécié au plus haut point!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Extraordinary----beautifully done....

  • I'm french, and it means in this song "I'm sorry"

  • I´m sorry / sad / lonesome.

  • the chorus is like this

je suis Je suis desole, mais je n'ai pas le choix

Je suis desole, mais la vie me demande ça

which roughly translates as, I'm sorry but i have no choice, i'm sorry but life asks me to

though my french isn't that good i'm pretty sure about that

  • Yep, you got the translation right! Good job.

  • @Darkpietje I'm french, and you're right ;-)

  • @Darkpietje it's right ;) :D

  • @Darkpietje im sorry but je suis desole means: i'm lonely

  • @JackFlipCashflow Hi, I have checked this with a friend of mine who studies French at the university of Amsterdam, and now I'm pretty sure that my translation is right. Thanks for the interest though.

  • @Darkpietje Hello, your translation is good, I'm french so i believe I have some legitimacy too.

  • @JackFlipCashflow sorry man you are wrong... Darkpietje is right.

  • briliant come someone tell me what Je Suis Désolé means

    please answer

  • it means "i am sorry"

  • it means i´m sad

  • In a way, I guess we're both right.

The French word désolée is used to describe feelings of sorrow, regret, fear, desolation and devastation which so accurately convey the true meaning of sorry.

  • je ne suis pas desole - because mark is the best of all times

  • And I mean geeze... I can't express my gratitude for this great man and musician. So, so elegant and graceful. Thank you!

  • Most beautiful fade out I've heard !

  • la hostia de cancion!!!

  • Brilliant, simply brilliant. Such a beautiful song.

  • NYC, Palace Theatre May 2010! : )

  • Fuckin love this song, and the way he sings all of them is amazing... I love 'Golden Heart' it's one of my favorites. Amazing, five stars!

  • Seen him 3 times, can't wait till the next. - buy-a-beat,net

  • Incroyable!

    J'aime Sonny!

  • ive only ever heard the live version of this song - does slide guitar feature on the record

  • Yes,Sonny also plays on the album...

  • A GREAT INTIMATE AND SERIOUS SONG FOR GENUINE AND FREE LIFE!

I love that: je suis désolé mais je n'ai pas le choix ,LA VIE me demande ca!

    THERE you are just RIGHT!

  • Mark Knopfler: Amazing

    Sonny Landreth: Amazing

Add this up and you got Legendary!

  • knopfler forever!

  • amazing how they faded out

  • oh yeah mark ne soit pas desole

  • n'est*

  • Damn, that little run/lick Mark does starting at 5:35 is awesome! Check out the slide guitar players face when he does it, he's like.."Ohhh yeah!"

  • 5:17 whats the deal with the dudes guitar above his waist man, surely thats more restricting than comfortable

  • Is hasta do with limiting the movment of the arms in such a way that they do the least ammount of work possable. Or something along those lines. I see it used mostly by people who are taking classical guitar in College or Uni, when they switch from accoustic to electric. I guess it gives the same feel as sitting down with the guitar

  • it's a matter of taste... some people hold it even higher... when above waist it's more like when you're sitting down with the guitar on your leg, for example

  • That's Sonny Landreth--one of the most unreal slide guitarists currently residing on this planet. Close your eyes, open your ears.

  • it is all down to personal comfort. Sometimes I vary it between different songs.

  • Nah, the higher it is the easier it is to finger chords. Anyone playing guitar below their waist is only playing power chords.

  • it ain't easy to keep your fingers straight when you keep them lower.

  • olivierschimpf : [ Mark Knopfler est super tranquille avec une guitare, en plus il chante en français dans celle-ci] Je suis desole aussi. I woN't have time to contact the makers of the musical/film -Mamma Mia- 2invite them 2consider doing the same with DS/Knopfler songs. It could start with sad ones (Telegraph Road, etc) and finish with -The Gravy Train-? about Recession (banks & UK/Brit Ministers' OTT expenses) 2 beat Recession blues, 4 aFEELgoodFactor. This hit was in-America's SweetHearts-

  • OMG! it was amazing...! i cannot believe i haven't heard this before.. wow!

  • I am sorry? wow....great song tho

  • Great jam!

  • oeps

  • Mark Knopfler est super tranquille avec une guitare, en plus il chante en français dans celle-ci

  • beautiful :d

  • magic ;-)

  • I'm never tired of listening to this song, and this rendition is so awesome, gotta love Mark Knopfler forever =]

  • Great Mark ! from Spain.

  • That Les Paul purrs during the chorus. Even better than on the album.

  • shame they edited out calling elvis, which was the transition into this song. i wonder if he played calling elvis actually at the concert. i wonder if he played 'i'm the fool' too.

  • Fraseggi da brividi. Mark è un grande!

    Fantastico!!!

  • Thanks for the translation. I got most of it, but didn't have it quite right.

  • Thank you guys pretty much!!

  • and whos that guitar player whith the glas bottleneck?

  • His name is Sony Landreth he's a genius at slide guitar you can find some good vids of him on YouTube here ;)

    God I love this piece

  • can anybody translate those french lines into english?

  • Je suis désolé, mais je n'ai pas le choix

Je suis désolé mais la vie me demande ça

    means:

I am sorry but I have no choice

I am sorry but this is what life's asking of me

    =)

  • you were the best here.. thanks

  • speechless!

  • that means : " I'm sorry, but I've no choice "

  • love the dueling between him and the slide guitar (who is that btw?)

  • sonny landreth

  • A brilliant musician and one of the nicest people you could ever know.

  • Good song " Je suis désolé " The best MK

  • اغنية رائعة شكرا لك

  • What does that mean? I guess it's a prett good comment though.

  • Makes me want to be a guitar...so nice!

  • je suis désolé je n'ai pas de choix.. la vie me demande ça..superbe.

  • Is Fantastic,

The solo career of Mark Knopfler after the Dire Straits is very sweet and beatiful.

  • Golden Heart is my favorite MK solo album. ;)

  • I think its hard to pick a favorite, I mean I can put any of them on and play it end to end, but it has its own charm, surely. Uilleann pipes, Vince Gill duet, there is much to like.

  • mine too. I love MK, but recently his solo albums have seemed to focus on his singing/songwriting, and while that is awesome as it is, he will always be first and foremost a guitar god, and golden heart is the album that stands out the most in that aspect for me.

  • This has a tint of the bayou to it...could it be Lousiana French? The music certainly has that two step rhythm to it.

  • The whole album has a Gaelic feel to it. Includes Irish, Scottish, French - so maybe a touch of Louisiana French, too.
