When I was a teenager and I smoked pot, I was a lot better in my classes. Getting drunk is far worse than smoking pot. Alcohol messes up the liver, the heart, thins the blood, causes blood clots in the heart and the brain, and given time it will eventually fry your brain out. They use pot medically for cancer patients. Why is that? Because it helps with the pain, but does not prevent the smoker from doing other things. It opens up the brain and your senses. I don't do it anymore, but I used to.

man, they must not have smoked in a reallllly long time to get that stoned. even if it was good stuff, it probably wasn't very fresh because it was so old. i know if i quit for a while and then smoke again, i'll get stoned like i used to back in the day. i remember the first time i got stoned, i told my mom i felt like i was walkin on the moon... but overall, i think people exaggerate the effects of weed. real smokers know that it doesn't make you act like that every time.

Roseanne tended to get carried away with the "issues" episodes, but they were always done well and without the schlocky sentimentality you usually find it sitcoms. Like here Dan and Roseanne start off very judgmental and intolerant, and then the next thing you know they're stoned. Obviously they had to decide they didn't like it in the end, and there were plenty of standard references to pot "burnouts," but at least they didn't deal with the subject in a totally one-sided, black-and-white way.
