@equamars1 Do you know if Hector Tirado studied with Gary Karr at all? I studied with Karr in the summer of 2005, and he mentioned a deaf bassist who had studied with him. If it's the same person, he tunes by feeling the vibrations of the instrument against his body. In fact, it would be even more difficult for him on the violin. And apparently, his intonation is worse when he wears a hearing aid. What a person can't do with a little determination, eh?
@MrMittendorf Well, I'm not really sure, but I know he feels the vibrations of the instrument and uses that perception in order to play, just what you said. I didn't believe that he really exists until I saw him playing in one of the many concertos that the Symphonic Orchestra of Puerto Rico gives. He may be the same person that Gary Karr mentioned, because I still haven't heard of another contra-bassist with a similar ability. He may not play incredibly well, but his persistence is admirable!
it's my fault in writing in English. I'm honoured to write maestro Karr once a month by mail. He's incredible. "G" as "Genius".
BTW I have talked about Mr. Karr "Tirado" to say that Hector was his copy. I repeat: I listen well, but I never will be able to play like maestro TIRADO.
Probably I may understand your performance.

Even if he wasn't deaf it's still quite good. The db is a tough instrument to play!
