I remember they were on WCIU-TV, channel 26 from Chicago dance program singing, "She's Gone From My Mind", commenting about their experience working with Neil Diamond. Does anybody recall ...? I rushed out to buy the 45 rpm, having a hard time finding who had it available for sale. "Freaky" that I just did a search on this group and was able to bring up info.

@myplace9 Hi Daniel: I was just a little girl back then but I asked my father (who managed them) and he does recall them doing a dance program and them playing with Neil Diamond. Small world isn't it? Glad you enjoyed the video. I know that the Five Emprees have a YouTube channel also. You should check it out cuz they are still together and playing.
Wow! I just found this video. Tony Catania is my first cousin. I remember going to Shadowland every single Sunday back when I was only 13 or 14 also the weekly outdoor dances at Blossom Lanes.
Please pray for Bob and Madeline Richards daughter Joline. She is in the hospital with some serious problems. She was just a child when Bob was our (The Five Emprees) manager.
Tony Catania is my brother. It was awesome growing in a house of music. All those handsome guys at your house all the time. Too bad I was only 2-4 years old what I can remember. Tony would take me to practice at Bill's house when he had to take care of me for mom. This is great thanks for putting this slide show together. I still want one of those sweaters they wore. Dawn
Don is my father, Bill & Ron are my uncle. Thanks for making this video, it reminds me of how talented they are. Plus I always get a kick out of looking at the old photos!
By the way......some of those that remember dad and the Five Emprees would like to know some "where are they now" info. Could you post some of that information please?
Look how young dad and the guys are in this slide show. LOL I sure do enjoy the stories mom (ticket taker) would tell me about the dances at Shadowland Ballroom in St Joseph, Michigan and Blossomlanes in Benton Harbor, Michigan. I am in amazement on how many groups and name personalties The Five Emprees opened for. I can still remember as a little girl how the band would practice at our house (in the furnished basement right underneath my bedroom!)and all the great fans that would come over
I agree with how young Dad looked! Did you notice that he always had a cig in his hand too? Those were the days when they would practice in the basement. I was way too little to really appreciate it. Nice hearing from you!
LOL--those were the days...powered sugar donuts in one hand, a cig in the other and the microphone stand directly in the middle of all those bad habits. But you know dad. He is healthier than ever now and will live forever. Especially with this history being posted.
Hi Aunt Jolene! Thanks for posting some family history. Go Grandpop. If you have time, post some of the reunion pictures. It would be neat to compare to the now and then. I was surprised that the internet had a lot of history info. I also listened to some bites from the album on Amazon.
Hey Mike: Nice to hear from you! Unfortunately, I don't have any pics from any of their reunions but we are still trying to find more pics from back in the 60's. I did get the Amazon CD, it's pretty good. Take Care!
Speedy, Speaking of WLS, if you look closely you will see, WLS radio personality, Dex Card in slide show. Dex hosted the very popular "Silver Dollar Survey" show on WLS and made an appearence with The Five Emprees on this date in South Bend. "Little Miss Sad" had hot airplay from July through October 1965 on WLS Chicago, as well as WRIT, WCOL, WOTY, and KKIS in the midwest and even KHJ Boss Radio in LA. It truely was a very exciting time for The Emprees and manger Bob Richards......
Joski -- I just posted on another thread that played the original 45 version of this song. It brings back wonderful memories to me. How cool that your father managed these guys. I remember hearing this song back in 1965 on Art Roberts's show on WLS (even though I lived in Philly.) I just love the things you find around this place. Thank you SO much.
Thanks Speedy. Don't know if you know that the Five Emprees had a reunion show a few months back in Benton Harbor, MI. They sound just as good today as they did back then!
Nice Job Joski39. I enjoyed your slide show very much. I hope other fans of The Emprees will enjoy this as well. This is a real blast from the past.. Thanks!
Hey Donzo! Dad also gave me a version of "Nobody Cares" and "Lurkin" that was recorded in stereo. Perhaps I'll post those versions if anyone has an interest in hearing them.

Did you "flip" these slides, or were there a bunch of "lefties" in the group?
novatransam 2 years ago
@novatransam ---no, there were no lefties in The Five Emprees. Most of the slides are reversed.
