Yeah Only for one time Ryu won Wang Hao, but the think is, at what time? At the Olympics, Wang Hao needs a Olympic gold medal, so he will be one of the few table tennis players, with 3 grand slams. And that only one time was at Olympics, how unlucky
zhang needs a winning mentality just like kongs....he will never achieved anything in world circuit if he doesnt get his act together....great form great footwork but lacks on that winning edge...
I find it amusing how the Chinese coaches never give credit to the other players performance. In 2004 when an in-form Ryu Seung Min destroyed Wang Hao all that Lui had to say was that Wang Hao 'let his country down'. I think as a former world-class player Lui himself should have seen that it was no real fault on Wang Hao's part. Again it happens here where the coaches simply think they didn't play well enough.
@Merrlol Out of the 10+ times of matches Ryu and Wang Hao played each other, Ryu only won one match, it was the 04 Olympics. That is less than 10% of chance of winning. Wang Hao was in very bad form at that time, as he had admitted himself to the Chinese media. Sure, Ryu was good at that time, but no where near good enough to beat Wang Hao. Ryu was lucky, but only for one time.
@saying68 For Wang Hao's level, getting to Olympic Finals is very very easy. It's much easier than getting to Chinese National Championship Finals because all other foreign players are no where near as strong as the Chinese national team and provincial team players. All players in Olympics, except his teammates, were supposed to be just target practice for Hao. Ryu's coach, Kim admitted after the match that the win was clearly in favor of Wang Hao. Ryu's good luck was Hao was playing very bad.
@saying68 You should read the news more, it was all over the place that Hao was playing only 70% of his ability. Ryu only beat Hao that single time, never before and never after. In Chinese Super League, Ryu lost so many ridiculous matches to Chinese provincial players, even city team players. It's very easy for Hao to reach finals because can u tell me someone who can be a challenge to him? not Timo, not samsonov, not anyone outside of Chinese team. Chinese Nationals is harder than Olympics.
@randompop101 i know that Ryu only beat him the once, also understand the fact that the Chinese nationals is more difficult in comparison, but what you are saying is that everytime a none chinese beats a chinese player, the chinese was in bad form? just the same as all the Timo boll fans say every time he loses, they claim its due to his back problem, some players go to tournaments or finals and play so much better than their usual standard, surely you have to give the winner some credit?
@randompop101 He beat countless other good players to get to the final with Wang Hao. It could be an issue with what styles he was practicing against. Keep in mind that many styles found in the Chinese superleague are not played anywhere else (e.g. Hou Yingchao, Chen Jian, Cui Qinglei, etc.), which is why, imo, Ryu many players don't practice against those styles. He could of been practicing specifically to beat Waldner, Timo Boll, Primorac, Schlager, Wang Liqin, Wang Hao, etc.
@randompop101 well... Ryu was lucky for sure. But I can't say Wang Hao was not in a good form since he won from Wang Liqin in the semi at the time. I would say Wang Liqin in 2004 is generally considered to be a stronger player than Wang Hao. Ryu was more lucky at the part that Waldner beat Boll and Ma Lin before losing from Ryu. If Ryu met Ma Lin or Timo Boll or Wang Liqin, he wouldn't be winning the olympic in 2004.
@randompop101 After the olympic Korean media revealed that Ryu trained particularly aiming Wang Hao's backhand. Ryu himself said in an interview that he was lucky to be in the finals (cuz he didn't expect much) and meet Wang Hao in the final (cuz he prepared) he said Chinese team is still the best even though he got the gold medal. But I think at least for the moment, he deserved to win from Wang Hao. I am sure Wang Hao didn't expect to meet Ryu in the final.
@randompop101 Actually Ryu had beaten him before when they were juniors, like eighteen years old or thereabouts. Ryu's style requires him to be in great form and have a good focus. That's why he often loses to low quality players - but only in minor tournaments / leagues. In the olympics he was on fire. There wasn't a single player that could challenge him. He got match point in just four sets. Plus Wang Hao was in good form otherwise they would've have thrown his match against WLQ. HATERRRSSS!
Dima clearly assumes where he's going to recieve the ball way too much. Many points were lost due to Dima standing in a completely wrong position and hence unable to return the ball.
@bartek4443 it's unargueably very beneficial to have a sixth sense but as I said I think Dima trusts it a bit TOO MUCH in this game. I think if Dima would rely slightly more on pure reflex Zhang could've been even more pwnd.
Ovcharov won the game after a 7-10 disadvatage. After that Zhang kinda ruined it. Needless to say Zhang is the more talented player. He should work on his mental weakness.
Wat's the chinese coache's name? thts prety bad 4 a coach to pull a dissapointed face at zhang jike wen he gav it his best shot. If zhang jike had won a couple more points at the end, whether they were played well or poorly, the coach would hav had a completely different facial expression.
Qin Zhijian. Zhang is the top player within the Chinese Team (No. 2 on China Super League). Zhang only plays 50%-60% of his real stuff for sure, his missed quite a few shots that he shouldn't. He certainly has some mental weakness because every part of his techniques dropped a degree because of Dimitrij's backhand. This also shows how an European player break through Chinese backhand(except Ma Long, Wang Hao) In my opinion, Dimitrij is the best European player! He defines the new European style.
You're right cosmeticcarrepair, Chen Qi did a weak handshake after giving the umpire and firm handshake. Maybe he's just trying to be cool. I think they should just bump knuckles. Sweaty palms handshake suck. :)
I think, Timo Boll is the best table tennis player at the moment, but he has got soo much pitch. He was in top form, but at the WTTC he has to be injured -.-

lolol wrong, this guy has used the same serve in every international tournament he's entered for the past 2 years. his hand is level with the table before the ball leaves it, and elevates the proper amount,
He also beat Wang Hao (world number 1), Ma Lin (Olympic gold medalist), and Ma Long (slated as the next big number 1). Zhang Jike is definitely not stopping there.
I've been keeping an eye on some of these younger guys: Ma Long, Ovtcharov, Zhang Jike, Mizutani, and Matsudaira among others. These guys have really been stepping it up. I really don't think the veterans Ma Lin, Wang Liqin, Boll, Samsonov, and others with Wang Hao and some of the other guys can hold out for much longer. I predict Wang Hao is going to stay near the top but Ma Long will soon overtake him. I also think some from the younger generation will overtake the older in just a few months.
whenever i see anyone play against Ma Long or Zhang jike it always seems like the final boss battle in a video game.
