Wow....what an amazing song! I remember it from my childhood. This is possibly one of the best songs of the 70's.Too bad it wasn't promoted more internationally.
@dwes49 I don't think anything is wrong with them. If alot of Americans heard this song I'm sure they'd love it. The problem is major American record labels who don't give a shit about great Canadian bands who make quality music like this.
@dfbhcf This song was banned in most states in US... they considered it a drug connotation.. what a crock of shiite now... this was about feeling good with what was going on all around. Vietnam had ended.. we had a fabulous Prime Minister and everyone was rocking..!!!!
@dfbhcf I guess I was lucky enough to grow up near the shores of Lake Erie. We had the option of listening to a lot of Canadian FM stations. Y95 out of Hamilton played this, and a lot of other great Canadian bands, frequently. Buffalo stations couldn't compete.
@dwes49 Lots of Aussies were into them. Back then we were out in bars listening to our own versions of pub rock and bar room blues too, like Chain and Carson.
The lucky English had The Pirates in the 70's for real hard pub rock.
Great band - they appeared on the "Old Grey Whistle Test" performing this song and I bought this album on the strength if it. The lead singer was a big bloke called Kelly Jay if memory serves. Haven't heard this for years, thanks for posting!
My family owned the Sauble Beach Pavilion and I *still* remember Crowbar burning the house down every time they played there. And I still cherish an autographed copy of the Bad Manors album! Hat's off to an amazing band! :-)
I saw them at Maple Leafs Garden summer 1970 - Summer Jam with Sly and the Family Stone, and a few other bands that I dont remember. The announcer calls to the crowd "anyone that bought acid on the east side of Toronto please report to First Aid". What a time, what an era.

Great song from long ago - under-rated & not well-known outside of Canada. Had the pleasure of seeing Crowbar perform it live in Winnipeg back in the day, with Randy Bachman coming out on stage & guesting on this song. Randy actually got on Kelly Jay's shoulders while they both soloed on guitar. They're both BIG boys, it's a wonder Kelly could hold Bachman up.
Canadian Rock at its best. The boys from the HAMMER!!!!! (Hamilton) I'm sure people born there get 'party or die' stamped on their birth certificates. LOL Thats a good thing. Crowbar are featured in a documentary about the beginnings of CanCon (of course the name escapes me). Anyways its the early 70's, they're playing a bar somewhere and their carrying people around on their shoulders, roaming around the bar partying all the while still performing. Complete mayhem, but what a party.
@luvdastuf I think they were playing at the Kee in Bala...I was hangin out with some friends and they were shooting this video with lights and everything.....loved this song
Wouldn't this make a great Harley Davidson theme song? And one of the band members was in a Harley newspaper ad years ago. We need to get this band playing again - soon. Roly, please keep working on it.
Great band- I wore this LP out! They made at least one (or two?) excellent records with superb harp-player/singer Richard Newell aka King Biscuit Boy before disbanding. They had once backed up Ronnie Hawkins. (Sound like Sly anf the Family Stone?! Amazing what people hear.)
When I first heard this on the radio about 6 months ago I was floored and absolutely surprised that this song had gone completely unnoticed the way it did. Crowbar should have been bigger than they were, but alas that's the music industry.
I remember when Kelly jay used to come out to gleichen Alberta and have a jam with local artists. Good times, I should cover this and see how it plays out.
I saw these guys back in the day at a high school dance and they were so loud the trophies in the front hall were vibrating on their stands! The two guitarists in the band also performed the coolest move I have ever seen and I have seen 100s of shows. The large size biker fellow held on to the smaller guys legs and put him over his back and the guy while upside down played his guitar! It was just a crazy thing to watch! I loved this band live!
Thank you, to all of you that have watched, listened to and commented on this post. It is because of you that this song will last forever. Its been 40 years since the release of "Oh What A Feeling" and this year, 2010, is our 40th anniversary.

@rockinroly hey bud if you are the bassist i was curious why is this band not well known in other than canada i mean i have heard it on sirius sattelite radio a few times, also who wrote this song. sorry i just always have to interview stars when i get an opportunity.
Kelly Jay was the father of my first girlfriend, Tiffanny. He was a really nice guy, except for the day he walked in to find me kissing her in his bedroom on Ferrie Street in Hamilton! I got to meet most of the 1980's version of the band a few times when they'd jam at Kelly's place. Great musicians all.
Like who in their right mind did not think this was Sly and the Family Stone? A bunch of pasty white Canadians came up with this funkadelic gem?. Get outta town. Who says whitey's cant jive??
MMm maybe! but the funkadelic vibe is definitely there. I mean come on Black folks i would love to hear your opinion. Has this got it going on or what?
I thought this was Sly and the Family stone FOR YEARS!!!
I read that this song is banned in the United States because it hints at possible drug use. Too bad it's banned in America as this is a real Rock masterpiece.
OOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH WHAT A FEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELING WHAT A RUUUUUUUUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Yet another GREAT Canadian band. Must be something in Hoser water. I haven't heard Crowbar since the last of my vinyl wore out sometime in the early 80s. Always wondered what became of them. They were way too good of a band to be forgotten. Thanks for the submission.
It's coincidental that M3VS mentions this, I saw Kelly Jay today and I heard this same magic that comes across in the live performance, it's like some kind of confidence in the performance that perks up your listening ears.
I know all the members of this band personally, except for Kelly Jay and it was the drummer, Sonnie Bernardi's 60th birthday yesterday and they performed. I'm telling you there is something about their live performances that just can;t be captured in studio. They are all great people and musicians.
A guy I know claims he saw Crowbar do a performance in which - either due to immense stage persona or just being high - one of their guitarists, whilst showing, climbed into a grand piano that was being played and was "shut up" inside of it. Mere folklore, or genuine memories for some of you old enough to remember?
This band played at Grand River High School in Kitchener and did a 15 minute version of this song that had the trophys in the display case vibrating! They also had the best guitar move I ever saw and I have seem 100s. The large singer held on to the guitar players ankles and the guitar player played his guitar upside down suspended on the other guys back! They made an entire career out of playing this song! Classic Canadian Rock!
I live in japan and somehow over here in japan they have a video of them playing this live, its so hilarious I nearly cracked a rib laughing, canadian flags and all! it was on tv last week
We knew this band here in Northern Wis. and loved them. I wish someone would post Murder in the First Degree and In the Dancing Hold. I lost a few brain cells to those two songs in the early seventies.Great stuff, rattle your windows.
I've heard a rumour that Crowbar has been asked to get together to play this song one more time (two time LOL!) for (I think) a football team ! Hope that happens ! What the hell, I saw James Brown in '65 then in 2005, and he didn't do the splits in 2006 but his show was just as awesome if not better ! So John could still play awesome, just not on Kelly's shoulders ! LOL! See what happens ! Hope so !
Ya Classic, Genuine Canadian Blues ! You can call it rock if ya hav ta ! "Back in the Day" Kelly Jay used to put John (Getto), the lead guitarist, up on his shoulders while John played ! Awesome, fun, goodtime band ! Did you know that Crowbar was Pierre Trudeau's favourite "Trubidor Band",so said the Toronto Star. They played at his rallies! Trudeau was Cool too !
The studio version was good, but the one on the live album is much better in that it truly captured the essence of this tune, which was to make everyone feel GOOD.
Fabulous PM in 71??.....TRUDEAU???...you're fucking KIDDING ME!!!!
The man who almost single handedly ruined Canada, his legacy of multiculturalism lives on, like an albatross around the neck of every true Canadian!

@roquefortfiles thats the problem ,,, blacks dont know what blues , soul and funk is anymore. The whites took it over a long time ago

Banned from US Radio immediately upon release, so says wikipedia.
Sure some songs hint at drug use and they aren't banned.
This song 'inspires' drug use. Just listening to it makes you higher than you were... 4 min 20 seconds ago. Isn't that odd.

I read that this song is banned in the United States because it hints at possible drug use. Too bad it's banned in America as this is a real Rock masterpiece.
NECHOII 2 years ago
But there's plenty of songs that are about blatant drug use, not to mention woman beating and prostitution, that aren't banned...

Would somebody PLEASE post Murder in the First Degree or ANY Crowbar. I gotta hear more!

Yet another GREAT Canadian band. Must be something in Hoser water. I haven't heard Crowbar since the last of my vinyl wore out sometime in the early 80s. Always wondered what became of them. They were way too good of a band to be forgotten. Thanks for the submission.

It's coincidental that M3VS mentions this, I saw Kelly Jay today and I heard this same magic that comes across in the live performance, it's like some kind of confidence in the performance that perks up your listening ears.
spunkymunkeymusic 2 years ago
I know all the members of this band personally, except for Kelly Jay and it was the drummer, Sonnie Bernardi's 60th birthday yesterday and they performed. I'm telling you there is something about their live performances that just can;t be captured in studio. They are all great people and musicians.

I remember this song used to be on an 8 track i used to have way back .Was called Canadian mint if im not mistaken

I think at least 300,000 Americans know this song from Woodstock '69 - it's the rain chant tune. I like the guy on the kazoo...:>)
