Thank you so much, NcKersey, for dowloading this wonderful snippet! Jonathan looks wonderful for his age and still using his voice to wonderful effect. How I envy all those lucky fans there that day, for I know from past DS Festivals how magical it is watching Mr. Frid interacting with all his fans. Bless his heart!
Johnathan Frid.... you will ALWAYS be my first heartthrob! I was 6 years old when I first became hooked on Dark Shadows and I always thought everyone was SO SILLY that they didn't want to be his bride. I would have, in a heartbeat! I love that he has such a sense of humor, you can see it in him being all hunched over as if he couldn't walk with his cane and then... Love ya!
Okay...Usemeordie made me angry! I watched Dark Shadows from almost the begining to the very last day. I loved the original DS & NOTHING has or will be able to hold up to it, but Twilight is good and I remind all of my daughter's friends, Edward was not the first loved vampire, that Jonathan Frid ( DS) was the first. Both were unhappy being vampires/monsters and were in love with someone. Dracula may have been the "first", but Barnabas was the first vampire that hated what he was.
Bless his heart...getting old sucks! But he still has a great spirit and love for his fans obviously!!! I hope I get a chance to meet him before it's too late!!!! I've got my 12 year old daughter hooked on Dark Shadows now!!!!
I adore DS!! My parents used to watch it, back in the day, and I got addicted to it via PBS airing it in my hometown area (St.Louis). Sadly, I got carted off to the west coast, and had to try to compensate for it not being aired by renting the episodes on tape. Anyway, I'll be getting it from my local library now. I attended a DS convention about 10 years ago, and it was great! Thank you, Jonathan, Dan Curtis (the creator), and all of the cast and crew for making magic on screen.
I'm a convert to Dark shadows after seeing 1 or 2 tantelising episodes, it was shown in the UK in the early 1970'S but it never caught on sadly. However, it is So addictive.
My best wishes always to all those involved with Dark Shadow, prodution teams Fans etc.
Yes, Mr. Frid lives in Ancaster, Ontario, which is within the City of Hamilton, his birthplace. He went to McMaster University there & his portrait hangs in the hall of honour, among others. The family business, started by his father, is Frid Construction & there is even a Frid Street:)
I recently saw a interview on a spiecal Darkshadows DVD that came out with a new interview with Jonathan Frid....he said he didn't like Horror movies.....meaning the ones that are blood and guts, the phsyical horror...he finds it boring and puts him to sleep.........he likes the type that is more Psychological in nature , from what I understood of what he said. you have to see the interview to understand what he ment.
I saw Jonathan at the 2009 DS festival. I told him he was up there with Bela Lugosi and Christopher Lee. I said "I'm sure I speak for every one when I say that I much prefer you to that ridicolous twilight." I know he appreacated it but he didn't know what twilight is!
I've seen Frid in the Grammercy park area of NYC walking about, quite frequently. But that was back in the late 80s. Great actor. Charming man. God Bless J.F.
I hear that there is a new remake in the works and it will star...Johnny Depp as Barnabus! He is busy filming the 4th installment of "Pirates of The Caribbean" and will begin DS after that. CAN'T WAIT!!
Wonderful to see Mr. Frid having such a great time. A true entertainer. Dark Shadows has one of the most loyal fan bases there is. God Bless them all.
Man the best soap opera ever and I am 23.I loved Angelique and Quentin with his violet eyes.Barnabus was my fave vamp not the Ben Cross version of the newer ones.
Oh, he is still as wonderful as ever. I hope he knows what an impact he made on so many of us. I was so in love with that man in the mid sixties. I was about 20 when I first saw him on Dark Shadows and he was so charming and classy, even for a vampire. Adore him.
Utterly delightful! Having been to several DS Festivals I know how the room "comes ALIVE" when Jonathan appears!! I loved his jaunty entrance. Wish I could have been there. What a treat it must have been. Glad to see he's still going strong and able to attend the DS cons. Thanks very much for sharing this wonderful moment. JF IS Dark Shadows!
Jonathan Frid is marvellous. That's all there is to it. He's a wonderful actor and gentleman and even in his 80s; I'm sure his senses (and of course his fangs!) are as sharp as ever. In fact, it's my understanding he still has that prominent ring he wore.
Dark Shadows is the only soap opera I ever liked. I'm going to watch one of my DS DVDs right now!
I may never get to met him but he sure can put a smile on your face. When I was a kid, all of my brothers and sisters and I would run home from school and get in front of the television and watch Dark Shadows. The best show ever. Nobody even moved not even our mother. What a show!!!! Loved it
I had the great good fortune to see him play Jonathan in ARSENIC AND OLD LACE on Broadway (just before the national tour began). He was very good, and showed the same lovely, wicked sense of humor then.
I had the pleasure of seeing one of Jonathan Frid's one-man shows and meeting him afterwards at Hofstra University on Long Island, NY almost ten years ago. He was delightful and charming.
This is absolutely one of the best entrance videos I've ever seen! Jonathan looks wonderful and has the same great sense of humor. To see Jonathan in person is surely a treat! I've seen him 3 times, and wish I could've seen him at the DS Fest. Thanks for sharing this with all of us.
I had forgotten how huge the pop was when he was announced, and mercy, I made my share of noise, too! I am wearing a stupid, silly grin on my face remembering this moment, along with several others from this special weekend.
Thank you, I love him!

Ok,, I'm puzzled so what is this Twilight you spoke of?...
Astraldragon1 2 years ago
Well, twilight is a terrible story about a sparkling faggott vampire who watches women sleep.
Try to avoid it at all costs.
I made the mistake many years ago by reading some of the book. Learn from my mistake!

I was a huge DS (no, not the video game system) fan as a child. I used to hide my eyes during the suspenseful, scarier parts. It's classic TV.
