Hi I just got the Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 Firewire Interface can not get the lights to work and the plugins to install I'm using logic pro 9 can you do a video on that
@DrumNBum The difference is that pro 24 dsp works with a technology called VRM monitor simulation. Its a nice tool when you're about to put it all together. Whatch the video from 1:45 and you'll understand what VRM is about.
am i supposed to be able to record vocals with this thing? cuz i have the power on and the mic plugged in and the volume half way up but still i hear nothing
how would this work with fl studio? sorry to be a pain and ask stupid questions but im not exactly schooled with this stuff. How could you connect the saffire to fl studio, then reference your mix? Thanks
i just bought this interface, but i'm having a very hard time getting my signal to go into my DAW. sometimes it works, but sometimes it doesn't. i'm afraid i'm doing something wrong - i'm kind of new to this. i get a signal on the LED monitor, and my macbook pro is indicating there is signal, but i hear no input signal through my monitoring speakers or thru the headphones. thoughts??
Thanks for the clear and to-the-point demo. I'm currently using a PreSonus FireStudio Tube but I'm hitting annoying limitations. The line inputs are way too quiet (a known issue, I guess) and it has no SPDIF I/O (something that didn't matter to me two years ago but does now). I thought I'd need all those extra mic in's for drums but I seldom do anything with live drums. Can anyone comment on how this Focusrite might compare to a FireStudio interface? About ready to make the switch.
I just bought a Roland 700gx and connected it from the keyboards r/l output to channel 3/4 of the saffire, im using mackie hr624s so im sure they can handle the quality. but it comes out really crackly?? do i need to connect to the midi or do i have a problem? thanx
@MusicmanJakk MIDI shouldn't have anything to do with it. Start with the simple stuff. I'd first check my cables and connections... and check my levels on the Roland and in the Saffire mix software. If you think you have a problem with the Saffire, Focusrite can provide you with support
I'm curious about the two front ports, in concern for quality compared to dedicated instrument hi-z inputs. Since I've been told that with my current setup, I should look into investing for a unit with Hi-Z inputs - or simply purchase a DI box. Seeing as how I'd like to just get a new AI (especially with that VRM tech you guys are offering!) I was worried about the inputs for instruments.
The way in which I record guitars is simply direct, then I proceed with amp sims and impulses - Thanks!
i only have a 2.1 system but the cable is a mini cable..
other topic, ive been using this the past few days with cubase 5.1,i cant figure out how to run the two preamps, mics 1 &2, at the same time on seperate tracks without them interfering with each other, what am i doing wrong?
@sginblack You will need powered monitors or something of that sort. The output is a line level output just like a CD player for instance. You may also use headphones too.
@sginblack Check the video at 0:56. The outputs on the rear panel are shown. If you watch it in hd and pause it, you can read what the various jacks are.
@Omrie69 I'm sure you could, but the Saffire is more so aiming at home recording studios. You might be better served with a more DJ orientated interface. Native Instruments has a whole line of interfaces focused on djing.
The virtual audio referencing sounds like it could be very useful. I'm looking at getting a new external interface unit and am seriously considering this.
Look, I don't understand this VRM thing. If you are listening to your mix out of 1 set of monitors, lets say this particular set of monitors has weak bass response... now your listening to various simulated speakers through your monitors (or headphones)... wont all of the virtual speakers and listening environments have a weak bass response? If your listening to a simulated speaker out of a real speaker, all the virtualizations are subject to the bias of your speaker, no?

How does this sound compared to the "White Face" Saffire? Mic pre? Compression? Reverbs? I love the new look of the control software. The old saffire software is really hard on the eyes.
It all depends on what kind of interface you need, how many I/Os and so on.
I'm going for a Saffire Pro 24 DSP, i like the fact it has two headphone outs. I've recently recorded a demo in a small studio that was using a Focusrite Pro 40 and it sounded great. On the top of that it looks like Focusrite's support is great, just have a look at the number of videos they've posted on youtube.

they are different beasts, closer in price would be the safire 24 @ @399 us street
the 610 has some analog ins @ 192k sampling rate
while most ins and out can be at 96 k sample rate on the safire pro 24 dsp the difference you are paying for in sound is how shiny do you like your boots ?
Go to the M Audio forum and have a look at the thread called "PROFIRE 610 serious recording bug. Not accurate." The thread has been viewed like 170.000 times and M Audio haven't done anything to fix the issue. Stay away from the profire, dude.
Nice AI but it looks shit like an 80s car stereo graphic eq

about the VRM- can you save it to an mp3/wav? or is it just used for listening/monitoring purposes?

make sure you're not recording too loudly, and try adjusting your buffer/sample size

@sginblack You will need an adapter for the mini 1/8" stereo cable that goes to your speakers.
Not sure on the Cubase question... Id be looking at my input/output routing.
